You gotta understand Michael was younger the most of the rest of the people in the room. Guys like Dylan and Ray Charles were from a previous generation, they were big in the 60's while the rest of these people were big in the 70's and 80's so they grew up listening idolizing them. Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson, along with Harry Belofonte were the elder statesmen in the room.

@@anthonyanderson9303 Yeah , I get the generational gaps, but this was about singers not who you grew up listening to. Dylan couldn't stay in key what so ever. Huey couldn't sing the verse properly. Michael and Lionel wrote the song to be sung not yelled by Lauper. Michael complimented and thanked Darryl Hall for "I cant go for that" the beat inspired Michaels "Billy Jean" beat. By the way, who invited Oates? 😆

@MargeSchott420 well to be fair to Bob, the 80s was kinda of a down time in his career. I doubt he had any confidence at all at that point. And Huey hung in there, especially considering that was supposed to be Prince in that part.
