I mean there is RCV shafts for Toyota axles, and they are stupid strong. I'm just to cheap to buy them when a used axle shaft cost $20 bucks 🤣

This build will be bigger and better than the Pickup on all levels, including the suspension setup 😉

Hey man greetings from Williams Lake! I just wanted to mention this front axle is actually a Dana 50 not a Dana 60. The 60 came in the front of F350's until '97 and then was reintroduced in the '05 Superduty with the coil front suspension (along with the super 60 in the front of the F550). Even the 50 will be more than strong enough for your application of course! Unless you are are swapping in a giant v8... or a 6BT Cummins...😉
@DirtGarage2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a 60. 60 was re introduced in 2002 actually. However Excursions stayed 50. This one one stamped 248 and confirmed with larger pinion nut and lack of pinion top luck lump. I turned down a set of axles before this because front was a D50 😅 I want to go 40s, so 60 is a must.
@DanielSmith-uy3yg2 жыл бұрын
@@DirtGarage very interesting! I would have bet a large pile of money that the 60 didn't show up till 2005 ( I used to own an 05 and that is one of the reasons I shyed away from anything before that). I guess I learned something new! ( I have been corrected on a few topics lately that I thought I knew inside and out and backwards and I would almost swear I had transported to another slightly different universe🤪) I look forward to the build series!
@DirtGarage2 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Smith Man it happens 🤣 I knew nothing about these until I got the Taco and started doing my own research. I wanted the earlier axles because of the narrower WMS, trying to keep it as streetable as possible.
@philgriswold21332 жыл бұрын
Those axles look like they can handle whatever you throw at them. Very stout for a Toyota. The head unit was a great way to bring modern tech into an older truck.
@nemesis851_2 жыл бұрын
I know it won't happen, but I feel like one of these times, the truck would be higher than the door clearance. Naturally you can just deflate
@DirtGarage2 жыл бұрын
I am worried about that for this truck.. The 4Runner barely fits, and scrapes the racks on way in 🤣 But hey that's what rollers are for.

great video, a co worker bought this head unit and really likes it said it was 30 mins in the driveway, i can hardly wait for the videos on the axle swap, Sterling/Dana 60 are strong and reliable and parts are really easy to get and prices are not bad either, well i guess that depends on what you buy for them, did the 1 ton axles come with lockers or is that something you have to purchase yourself and install them later during the build out, just curious, our last company truck was a super duty 4x4 and al it had was full floating axles in it no lockers at all, i think it had an LSD in the rear 👍

love your vids and I'm really vibing with your ideas! Used vehicles with lots of potential getting heavy duty upgrades is how I think too. I have an '89 pickup that I'd love to drop the 4.0l V8 in and put the Toyota dually rear axle in and have it be a small footprint hauler that doesn't put the same fuel strain on my wallet as my '99 Cummins 😬 Any tips for getting a project like that off the ground?

The front axle looks to a dana 50, check the BOM sticker on the tube to decode it
@FlawedOffroad2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t think to look but you can tell by the jump on the top of the diff also
@DirtGarage2 жыл бұрын
No BOM code on this axle. Seller has Excursion diffs I turned down because they where d50 🤣 So I sure hope it's a 60

Looking at the pinion, the bottom right casting numbers 229=d50 or 248=d60

I built and still building my rig and the stereo was and still is the least of my worries. In fact where the stereo originally would be I have installed aftermarket gauges for the important things that should monitored. I've been wrenching on cars muscle cars mostly sine before high school back in 1994, and a noise that can be heard and not be drowned out by a stereo can be the difference between catastrophic failure later. Plus my vehicles always sound better than anything that a stereo can put out. To each is their own, different strokes for different folks I guess.
@DirtGarage2 жыл бұрын
Nope, I 100% agree. It's usually the last of my worries. It would still be stock if it wasn't sent to me and wasn't plug and play. This stereo running android can run OBD2 apps so I have live diagnostics and readings right from ECU.

How so? As in ring and pinion?
@guyderagisch49642 жыл бұрын
@@DirtGarage Yes, Dana uses shim packs instead of threaded adjusters. They sit between the carrier bearings and the carrier. Some builders go so far as to recommend taking a spare set of bearings and turning the ID out a thou or few to make a test set of bearings to ease finding back lash, without pressing on and off the bearings that get used in final assembly.
