I’m an actor with a lot of friends who work for (or have at some point) this studio. I think something a lot of them don’t realize is what a career killer having something from Dhar Mann can be on your resume; he writes and directs so poorly that many industry executives write off Dhar Mann actors as “untalented”. To know that they also aren’t even making a decent wage is unsurprising but just another slap in the face to people who think that booking his work is going to move them forward in their careers and live when it usually ends up stalling both.

I've been suspicious of Dhar Mann ever since I ran into a job listing he put up while I was job hunting in the Animation industry. It called for ONE person to be a Storyboard Artist, an Animator, a Props Designer, AND a Character Designer. In the animation industry those are ALL SEPERATE jobs for a reason. I'm so glad the actors are speaking up because they're the true backbone of his whole channel Edit: For what it's worth this listing was like a year or two ago, and it seemed like it was for an episodic kids show that he was planning on but I don't know if it actually went anywhere. It did seem like he was trying to build a team but deeply did not understand how much one person could or should do /naïve about how animation works.

As an actor who regularly sees posts for Dhar Mann’s casting calls on the usual websites and have friends who audition for them from time to time, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you dude. For context, the average day rate for a non Union film or in this case “new media” project is $125 per shoot date. Many pay less or don’t pay at all. If you have a talent agent or manager they get 10-20% (mine is 20) and the government gets another percentage because it’s a 1099 gig. You work 12 hours on average per shoot date but that does not include driving far distances (common in LA to drive an hour one way), unpaid rehearsals with the production company, unpaid rehearsals with fellow actors who simply want more practice and you want to help them out, finding your own outfits or props, etc. None of this includes the time spent on multiple auditions for one role. You could work as a non Union actor regularly and it would still be highly likely that you are making less than minimum wage

It's just so frustrating that people tend to ignore the fact that acting is a trade profession. It's a craft and it's hard work that requires training and experience to do properly. Instead we treat actors as meat puppets that say lines and think that anyone with enough charisma can be handed a script and do it. I think both points can be valid. Our justice system is very screwed up and many people are treated horribly, absolutely. But I also feel Dhar Mann's past actions reflect something about him as a person. A scam artist doesn't suddenly shape up and become a completely legit businessman without a good reason, so I think all he did was craft a better image for himself. I think it's more about reputation and behavior than legal charges he faced. That's just my perspective as a person who hasn't been through the justice system before. Seeing as many of his child actors are in elementary school or just now starting high school, he’s screwed. Already crazy enough that the actors are under contract so messing up a contract surrounding a child star will get one under a lot of heat. Legally they can walk away bc a contract for a child isn’t legally binding, but as long as they choose to stay, he will have to make sure he pays them properly. He as an adult is required to follow the rules of contract while they are not.

This is why at every non-union gig I get I immediately start sussing out whether my coworkers would be up for unionization. As a member of IATSE, I've learned how wonderful it is to have an entire worker-led organization at your back when dealing with bosses. We can't expect or even hope that employers will give a crap about us enough to treat us fairly. Best of luck to the actors! SAG offices are right in the middle of LA (along w all the other industry guilds), LA actors have no issue w contacting SAG. the issue is that 1. you have to have a certain number of specific vouchers to qualify and 2. you have to be able to actually pay for it & that shit ain't cheap.

I kind of feel like this video should be on the main channel as well. I understand that it’s less scripted and the format is more suited for this channel, but these are serious allegations that people should be aware of, and more people will see it if it’s on the main channel as well.

Agreed. I'm glad Jarvis is bringing to light the dark (Dhar Mann not paying a liveable wage) but it would be cool to see something like this on the main channel. I'm sure it'll have even more of a reach. I read in another thread that even production crews at Dhar Mann Studios have experienced shady ass shit. If someone was to do another video I hope they highlight those folks as well. It sounds like a shitty workplace tbh.
