Just some perspective. When it comes to buying dairy (eggs, milk, butter) given that prices are high for everything, do your community a favor. Buy from local dairies. Support farms in your area. I’m finding local dairy costs are now much the same as the mega brands. Same with produce. Buy local, in season - especially if it’s on sale.

I managed to find someone local who has a jersey cow and was willing to sell me 4 litres per week. It’s cheaper than my store prices, but I have to drive 20 minutes to get it. Still worth it because I can’t digest the milk from the store.

I agree with you about the soda! My sister finally gave up soda and lost 10 lbs and replaced it with carbonated water. She was inspired with the weight loss that she cut carbs and lost a total of 45 lbs and gained money in her wallet lol

Wow that is so awesome 👏 I am an avid pop drinker and I’m trying to figure out a way to stop 🛑 I only drink sprite so it’s not a caffeine thing it’s the carbonation and I’ve tried all the carbonated waters and they are gross, even tried the soda stream! I gave up soda for lent this year (as well as ice cream), but the past few years I have been drinking more water than soda. I used to drink about four or five cans of Diet Coke a day. But these days I can just as easily have water or flavored seltzer.

When I was really on a tight budget, I first scanned the sale flyers and planned my meals (and list) around that. Back in 1973 my grocery budget was $25 a week for a family of three, and that included cleaning supplies! Two of us packed our lunches too.

Adjusting that for 50 years of inflation, that's around 170$ now. USD to CAD makes that 217$ CAD for one week? That's 850$ a month for 3 people? That's... actually a lot of money. I can remember in mid 70's, the prices going up constantly. They didn't go up this fast and product was available. That was right in the middle of the oil price stuff. If people don't understand what the cost of energy does to everyday prices by now, they never will.

My grocery list includes my meal plan at the bottom. If I can't get ingredients or don't want to purchase an item because of the price I can see which meal is impacted and switch out the meal or adjust it. I also write my grocery list in groupings; dairy in one group, meat/poultry, veggies and fruits. It's easier to shop and keep track of the costs. Lastly, I start shopping in the meat/poultry section. Those deals and substitutions tend to have the biggest impact on whether I change a meal plan. Easier to swap a different veg, pasta, etc. for the expense/unavailable planned items.

I do like the content creator and keep needs in mind but the week or 2 ahead all depends on the great finds or sales I can find. Sometimes it's not our favorite foods and sometimes it is. I can say that lately I've found whole pork tenderloins on sale for 1.49/pound and the butcher will slice and tenderize free.... I have a lot of pork tenderloin in my freezer for sure! I've also found whole beef tenderloins they've recently frozen for 5.49/pound that is 100% USA and stocked up on it. That's cheaper than the burger atm! I too go straight to meat to strategize around what I find on sale.

I thank God I work at an H‑E‑B grocery . We get 10%- 25% off throughout the year off the already competed prices. @@Metqa Unfortunately my ladies aren't free-ranging since we're technically 1 or 2 houses inside city limits (not allowed in our town) and have agressive neighbor dogs. But my girls have a large cabin-ish coop we built 4 yrs ago (as a disguise) and plenty of fenced run. Our property is 3+ acres but the garden is only about 1500 sq ft of raised beds, with fruit trees, berry bushes, grapes vines and green stalk planters on the outside of the fenced garden. I'm also jusy started growing herbs, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers and squash inside year-round.

This year I switched to only buying whole chickens instead of specific cuts. About every 5-6 weeks one of my grocery store will run a .99/lb sale on while chickens, and then I buy the limit (usually 2). I live alone, so I roasted chicken usually gives me plenty of meat for a whole week and I freeze some. I also look for manager's stickers on meat when they mark it down a day or two before the sell-by date and then throw it in my freezer.

I use to do that but I haven't seen a whole chicken for .99 lb in years in my area. They are very expensive. At Costco you can buy a rotisserie chicken way cheaper than a raw whole chicken. Makes no sense to me.

I always plan my weekly meals after what is on sale that week. I stock up on the items on sale and save for later. It helps me keep my food budget low (as low as I can with 4 kids) But I have to since I am a single mom so it is essential for me and my family. And we are not starving or feeling deprived 🙌🏼

I feel very fortunate. I’m not sure if there is better access to local farms or if it’s our state’s location, but there seems to be plenty in the stores. Prices have gone up for sure but not like some of the other states. I feel for our Canadian neighbors. The farther north the cost is always crazy. ☹️ I do love that there are ways to donate to help others who are seriously suffering from inflation. I also appreciate all of the volunteers here in Utah who give their time to our church dairy and canary, which donates copious supplies around the country/world. 🥰 There are always ways to help others, sharing knowledge and skills, not just physically and monetarily. One of the best tips I got was to ask the person working by the eggs for a box of broken eggs the entire box is $4-$5 and my box had a total of 5 broken eggs that I threw away and it was missing 3-4 eggs. I got over 200 eggs in the end after broken eggs.

If I calculate(close to the price)200 eggs is just over 16 dozen eggs so thats $27.04 for 16 dozen eggs. And in my box I got all large or extra large eggs and several organic eggs which means I saved even more if those were the eggs I was going to buy.

My best way to cut back on budget is to eat less dairy products, meat and processed ready to eat food (We are a vegetarian family so that helps). Overall, prices are up but can still find great sales especially if you're flexible. I found organic apples on sale for $0.99 a pound and broccoli was on sale for $0.97 a pound. Mangos in my area 37 cents each right now. Deals can be found.

@@kimsmith819 I'm from texas and ate meat in *everything* my entire life and my husband hates vegetables, but going vegan was actually really easy for us! You should look into some substitutes. Animal products are actually mostly paid for by taxes, that's why they've always looked so cheap on the shelf. Now that the pandemic has caused tax dollars to go to different things, animal products sky rocketed while plant based products have stayed the same or even got cheaper. You'd be surprised at the amazing substitutes you can find when you know where to look! 😉

Food prices are ridiculous right now. We're paying for the loss of so many crops due to bad weather and drought in some areas. Plus the higher gas climbs, we'll pay again for that. I live in a community with a church that does "food rescue" - FREE food for the community. It's not a food pantry although the food pantry is also heavily supported in this community. They get pallets and pallets on a weekly basis full of food that is nearing the sell by or expiration date - all from local stores. They have shelves full of Panera breads, produce, dairy, cereal, snacks, etc. And it's all free to members of the community. It's so much fun to shop there and rescue all these foods that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

I'm not sure it was that stocked. She couldn't find a variety of chips. The store filled the shelves with what was on hand, that was 2 varieties. I'm seeing the tactic in other stores. It didn't look like the product was that deep either. Either way, if the prices are that high, the product will sit. People are looking for better deals. There were a lot of tags missing on the shelf edges which meant whatever was supposed to be there, isn't there.

Back in the mid to late 1980s, my step mom asked me how I got my two kids ( under 5) to eat the " cheap foods" I told her that's what I bought. She said her kids ( my half siblings) wouldn't eat cereal unless it cost over $3.00 a box. Well, that's what SHE chose to buy. They ate the cheap stuff at my house, or went home to eat. Years later, I saw my sister shopping at Aldi, for her family.

If you need the large sheet cake for an upcoming party...scrape of the frosting and make your own and decorate it how you want! If you take heavy whipping cream and whip it up and add about 1-2 tablespoons of dry pudding mix you will have a stablized whipped cream frosting....and not so sugary.

Juanita’s tortilla chips are the best! I grew up in Tucson, AZ so it’s hard for me to find packaged tortilla chips that measure up to the homemade ones you can really just buy everywhere for pretty cheap. Juanita’s are definitely the best I’ve found. Love all of you videos.

I saw the Philadelphia brand cream cheese for 2.75 at Dollar General. Was shocked. I only buy the off brand for a buck or when the name brand is a loss leader for the week. We replaced soda in our house by making a gallon of iced tea every day. It costs SIGNIFICANTLY less (especially when you buy off-brand or on sale tea bags) and when soda is just an occasional treat (local gas station sells fountain soda for 89 cents any size) I actually enjoy it even more! But we don't buy gas there - we live 15 minutes from a gas station across the state line where we can fill up for 80 cents less per gallon!

Yes! My family has a soda stream and an ice coffee machine (which can work for single serve ice tea) and we just keep a container of loose leaf tea for some flavor!

Ooo, mercy, I'm feeling the prices here in Central KY!! I went to Kroger last night and caught their 1 lb packages of Angus 80/20 ground beef for 2.99. I got 6 of them. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts were still 1.99/lb at Kroger, but the whole chickens at Meijer was $10 last night!. I work mostly remote, so on the days I go into work, I look at the sale ads to see if there's anything I can pick up on my way home. I've created a spreadsheet to keep track of prices at three of the major stores around on the items we use most. It's a little tight, but just like everything else, we'll weather through it! I have a $40/week budget for my family of 3. It’s very challenging but I also really enjoy the challenge. I usually end up going to 3 stores and shopping all of their loss leaders for the week. Sometimes I can even stock up! Safeways has ice cream for 22 cents this week! Crazy. So is it difficult and time consuming- yes. Can it be done? Also, yes.

I had been looking for years for a good non-stick pan. I received my Misen last month, using one of your available discount and I absolutely adore it. We use it daily over here, my teenager says she has a hard time with her eggs because it "slides" too much, she's not use to it... What a nice problem! Stores at least where I live are using the Coronavirus limits as an " excuse" to not give out rain checks. It seems like everything today is because of the pandemic. I am so tired of it! I know and understand that yes some limits are because of it, but come on last year beef and pig farmers here were having to give meat away because of the government not allowing them to sell it, how is that related to the pandemic? These farmers lost tons of money because of the government not the pandemic. The entire thing is just making the entire population angry in so many ways that I fear that we could end up in another Civil war.

There is an Amazon Fresh in my town. Most stuff is over priced (especially produce, meat, and dairy). But they have been putting a $15 off $30 purchase every week. So I use it on the stuff that isn't marked up as much. I get spices, chili paste, salad dressings, some freezer stuff. As long as it is about the same price as other stores I will get it at Amazon with the coupon. Then I take my neighbor's coupons they arent using and do multiple check outs so each total is $30 and I get half off multiple times

For ground beef I've had the best luck with 10# rolls at the store formerly known as Cash and Carry. They go on sale fairly regularly, so they're usually below $3/# for 80/20. Last summer I snagged it at $1.69/#! I'm so very grateful I can shop at WinCo, hit Safeway and FM for loss leaders, and the restaurant supply store - all within five miles of my house.

These grocery price videos are so interesting to me who live in Finland. I wish there were couponing, apps or other thing to get stuff cheaper here. An example, ground beef is about 3,99€/400 g = 4,42 dollars foralmost a pound. Things like that don't really ever go on sale. I noticed that a lot of our fruit and vegetable are cheaper here though! For your prices I get about 2,5 pound, since we go by kilos. I truly wish there were sales like you have but all we get are 30-40% off things that are about to expire. Love your videos!

Christine, we always go for the "raincheck" on sale items that are currently sold out. This means we can come back next week when that 20lb bag of rice is back up to regular price and back in stock - and get it at that sale price :)

Totally agree that being flexible and reverse meal planning is the best thing to do to save money. I stock up on the low priced items to get us through the next month with shopping at 4-5 different stores monthly wherever I can get the pricing low enough. I also got the free frozen pizza at our local Safeway which was a fun treat. Love the apps and getting good discounts and free things. We did give up buying soda and buy a few 2 liter bottles for treats but we have stopped buying cans. We also save up our points to get gift cards for Walmart and other places to put towards getting low priced items and not spending money out of pocket. We have stayed under $100 per month and had a full meal plan of yummy meals. Totally able to make the most of things in the house and not spend the money!!

It is tough to do tons of comparison shopping at multiple stores, especially when you have to travel a long distance, though! Gas prices reduce savings by a LOT and it can take so much time that it isn't worth it. I definitely still try to do what I can, but usually limit myself to my town. I have my fingers crossed that we will eventually get a WinCo here, though. I would go all the time!

I have a hard time with frozen fruits. They become mushy when defrosted because of the water from the ice. Unless you're making smoothies or baking something with them, they're not great. I find it impossible to eat them like I would fresh fruit.

I used to exclusively buy outlet bread and discounted (because of age)...but one time I couldn't go to the outlet store and I bought a regular priced loaf of fresh bread, and it was SO FRESH and tasty, that my family wouldn't let me skimp on that any more. Fruit, veggies, breads, most dairy (markdowns) all go to local food pantries. Each pantry has a pickup day. Our local, tri-county End Hunger program coordinates with each grocery store and food pantry to ensure pickup and distribution to feed the hungry. They have been doing this for over a decade. If a random cart shows up with markdown it’s empty with 15-45 mins, if that.
