That’s why the aristocrats had all those servants! The gardens were all kept manicured and maintenance on the house was looked after. It is definitely a challenge for you to take care of all this history. I wish you had help and pray you don’t burn out. Keep plugging along. Your vlogs are very interesting.

Do you ever just sit back and imagine what it all looked like when it was first build and the owners had a full staff to care for everything? It's absolutely gorgeous in its current state but how amazing it would have been back then. I think it's wonderful you're taking such care of the chateau and its grounds and trying to bring it back to full splendor.

In the states they sell a water proofing paint by the name Dry-loc. It is used to seal walls in a cellar, but I don't see why you can't use it outside. Perhaps they have a similar paint in France.

Life in an ancient stone building = pointing, rendering & painting. Fix roof. Never a year off. Interesting that they didn't put a façade on the outside to protect the cinder block from absorbing water and only rendered it. I wonder if they had plans for another extension that didn't get done? It really needs a protective façade after it dries out.

Phil, that’s a bummer 😢 at least you know where the leak is coming from. Not the Roof 👍 definitely need a cherry picker or something of that ilk. Could you use the water from the moat (filtered) to clean that side? Trust it stops raining soon, so that gable end can dry out. If it’s any consolation it’s still raining here in Ireland (since September last). So I empathise. Cheers

I love your attitude about the damages,, best you can do is assess where the problem starts and then work to find ways to resolve it. You need to regularly inspect areas you don't use all the time, especially in a big house like that and know I'm stating the obvious, and you probably know, but we have the tendency to neglect things like this because they are tedious. But in the long run, catching issues early saves you time and work. As you said, this is a work smarter, not harder.

oh well, it's still an amazing home that is nothing but inspiring ;-) We have wofs in NZ, (working on farms, or even chateaus) for a few hours a day and they get a place to sleep and can join in dinner or the pub. That is one way to get some labourers to help for nothing on your home and company ,no matter it's condition. Odd jobs people come in handy.
@marysutherland85709 ай бұрын
Well that's too bad, having leaks and having to repair the wall! I'm thankful it's not in a place where you'd be dangling over water and cement or boulders! But being it's above the terrace, would you be able to drive a "cherry picker" (as we call them here in the USA) truck onto the terrace and lift you up there? I'd hate to trust in a single layer of cinder block and dangle from the top, not knowing if there's even re-bar in there to support it! Wish Simon could come and have that wall fixed and patched up for you in just a few minutes! But I know you'll be a good sport about it, and thinking about that, thank you for what you said, "NO matter what the weather, enjoy the view!" It's going into my collection of "Quotable Quotes" ! I pray God gives you courage and strength as you face so many things being a faithful steward of this amazing place entrusted to your care and preservation! We love you sharing these things just the way they are. Real life, frustrations and all. These things make the victories all the more sweet!
