@@Relhio Welp - I think they realized this problem ... after Overwatch died and WoW updates were too slow. Like Warlord of Draenor was one of the best marketing push but it had no contents and lost like 8m players. Atleast recently they bought the entire Spellbreak studio to add WoW contents, Hearthstone contents are pretty active like it went from 3-4 months for a new expansion before any update to biweekly updates and it seem like Diablo 4 have a decent content roadmap. Imagine if Starcraft 2 had this treatment before it lost the esport scene.

One thing i do like with Valheim is that you can do either multiplayer or playing solo. I wouldn't expect it to be the same for Blizzard's Survival game but i'd welcome it if there is an SP option.

ts live and popular right now, called classic era(not wotlk) and players using a hardcore mod, you are not allowe to team up, use the ah, are not allowed to die at all and yo have to craft all your stuff yourself, its pretty fun tbh many streamers you get notification of all the deaths of other players, too with this addon. More fun than hardcore diablo. The hardcore aspect and additional rules slows the game down and turns it directly into a survival game. So yeah community allready did such a game in the warcraft universe quite recently and its very popular.

This may be a shot in the dark here, but I'm a lifelong blizzard fan, I've played essentially all of their games for countless hours. I'm sure many of us here can say that blizzard was our favorite game development studio for quite some time back in the day. As games have evolved over the years, I've found my wife and I are deeply attached to survival games. My biggest hope here, is that blizzard has sat in the background, observing ark, observing rust, observing valheim and allllll of the most popular and successful survival games, and has found a way to creatively blend all of them in a fashion that can give players from each of these games, something to do and enjoy here. The world could always use better survival games, and from this studio it has the potential to exceed everyone's expectations. I'm super excited, super hopeful, and I'm willing to bet if done right, Blizzard could give us yet another game to enjoy for countless years.

One of Blizzards favorite methods of operation is to take what is out there, and do it one better. They did it with EverQuest when they made WoW. They are good at this, and it works. You let the competition do most of the experimentation and possible failure, and then you take their idea and improve it.

I actually quit WoW for Rust. Despite being VERY different games, Rust captured that shared world, community feel I used to get in WoW, along with the dangers that come with those factors. Alliances, player built safe zones, exploration etc. It really captured what I loved in games like WoW. Ever since I have been hoping for an MMO-Survival hybrid.

I know you're confident that this is their next MMO. However, everything you've described is in Ark (as one example). Would you consider Ark an MMO? Sure, i would say "MMO-lite" or probably more accurately that there is at least similarities to an MMO, but I don't think this will be any more an MMO than any other survival game with co-op/PvP (which is most of them).

Would be interested to see this in the StarCraft universe. Imagine being a marine on a crashed ship or Zerg from a lost hive or who the hell knows for a Protoss, but you need to survive…build bases, and fight. Like a 1st/3rd person survival mmo like you were in the SC universe

@@sigma6840 I tend to agree, sadly. I'm not entirely sure why, but it seems like Blizz sort of forgot about StarCraft. Since SC2 we've seen a pair of Diablo games and a few altogether new games. I've seen videos that suggest that the teams were disbanded/etc., but I was never entirely sure why. To me, it is one of the crowns in the Blizz gem.

When referring to "procedural" it is almost for sure the former seed based generation (however I'm sure some parts would be consistent such as certain POIs) you mentioned rather than the latter procedural tools to help artists rather than manually putting trees because this latter set of tools are already so out of the box in game engines already

What I get from this game with information we currently have is this is probably built like a steampunk take on Fallout but it will play like World of Warcraft as far as the universe goes. I'm not expecting this to be like an MMO entirely, but perhaps it will have servers hosted by third parties like how Minecraft does it with Hypixel and all. I still think that World of Warcraft is Blizzard's biggest social game.

Worth considering, many of these positions are for additional roles fulfilling the same function, but at various levels. For example, I saw multiple tiers of Points of Interest. - POI, Senior Designer - POI, Designer - POI, Artist - POI, Lead Designer So, there's a decent chance there are many more tiers of people for Points of Interest, who have been working on the game for the past few years. The second thing to consider, is many of these positions could be for the continued development, pre and post launch, live service side of the game. If the game is near completion (1-2 years away), they may still be taking on new people to help with continued development. No way to know for sure. We'll probably learn more this year though.

I've been really sucked into a couple of survival games - V Rising and Valheim. If Blizzard can capture the magic of those type of games and add AAA old school Blizzard quality and not be completely predatory with microtransactions then it could be massive hit on the scale of WoW. Its just logical. For longest time Survival games have been slowly taking the place of OG MMOs for OG MMO crowd. While what today is known as MMO, the Asian style P2W F2P thing is drifting further and further from what OG MMO idea was. Every job listing you where reading Reminded me more and more of 7 Days 2 Die, it has extremely complex and fun base building, massive dungeon-like POIs, random world generation, PvE and PvP, can be online or local or single-player, survival gathering mechanics, the only thing missing is the fantasy/magic aspect, if blizzard is tackling into what 7d2d is, i'm very excited for it because that game is awesome, one of my favorites.

I'm curious how the gameplay loop would be. Is it like rust for example where it's a small server and people compete and eventually the game "ends" ? or is it a more permanent game, and if so, how would servers work ? just 100ish people per server ? It just seems weird in how they would implement it in an MMO-lite style. Maybe they would just have phasing ? but how would that work with making your own buildings ?

I could see them shooting for a '24 release, simply based off fact their release slate will be empty that year from blizzard, no wow expansion (not that I've heard of), d4 this year, no new star craft, and overwatch 2 is already out and on going. Blizzard has the IP of Starcraft and haven't done a World of Starcraft type game yet. I have a 300 page novel with Starcraft when I bought it with so much lore and amazing art back in 1999. It saddens me that they arent doing anything with this IP that most old school gamers have played and loved.

But then they'd need to put it on Steam for Steam VR. Blizzard won't do that I bet. VR still niche, but it's my favorite way to game in the 2020s

Remember that Overwatch was going to be a FPS MMO. They probably just used the framework.

This sounds all well and fun but what we really need is a neo-noir/cyberpunk futuristic MMO in the style of Blade runner/Deus ex/Neuromancer. Classes like Psionic, Battle robot, Sewer mutant and Corporate bodyguard would be awsome. Everything set in a giant city inspired by Coruscant. I would play that game until I die!

"First Person" will be a game killer for many. Best seriously consider 3rd person option.

Eventually a Starcraft live service game will be made and if it is called "World of Starcraft" instead of "Galaxies of Starcraft", someone has failed at life.

Valheim should have been an MMO with game of thrones like style. Some AAA companies may jump on to this idea.
