A trade to Seattle makes a lot of sense. They need a star player, and they have just a ton of blue chip prospects in the cupboard. Problem is, Ron Francis is so conservative that he makes a guy like Ron Hextall look like a wild man.

Really enjoyed your spit balling on the Marner situation, bringing up the core issues that fans and insiders fail to address. The entire leafs situation is deja vu, the last 4 seasons. Should have made the shake up last year when marner still had 2 years. Leafs fans and insiders are quick to point out the problem and solution ( Marners the problem, he needs to be moved ) without offering reasonable destinations and returns. As you mentioned it's not just that marner has a full NTC, who wants him? Especially at that cap hit? And of the teams that could be interested, what do they have that makes sense for Toronto. I dont see that 1 for 1 type hockey trade being there for the leafs. Why would any contending team trade a star player for a star player that has proven to not perform in the playoffs. Teams most likely interested in marner are going to be the weaker teams desperate for talent. But they wont have assets that would make sense for Toronto ( I assume picks, prospects and a middle of the line up player is not the return they want ) I also generally believe marner is overpaid by 2ish million and could see a trade partner wanting the leafs to eat a mil or two. Marners contract and expectations on his next contract will play a big role in which team is willing to pull the trigger.

It's funny coming into the playoffs this season Marner 47points Matthews 44points Nylander 41points in 50 playoff games. It's funny how Marner is not a playoff performer but the other two guys are. Marner should just say f-you and walk at the end of next season.

Mathews has really improved in the playoffs the last 2 years, plays more physical, Nylander has always come to play in the post season. Marner just looks scared, and Tavares .......he is no captain, lets put it that way.

It’s going to be like the blockbuster we saw two years ago with Matt TK. teams are a tiny bit concerned about his playoff success, but nevertheless, he is still a game changing player, especially in the regular season

@@wgdjoefraser Haha... totally wrong. Won't get nearly as much as Toronto people think they would for him. And, that's why he probably isn't going anywhere. Not because Marner isn't good. Because he only has 1 year left. He's a rental. Look at the Karlsson trade last year with Pittsburgh. Was a complicated deal but the Pens gave up nothing good for the reigning Norris Trophy winner with 4 years left on his contract. The Pens literally SAVED money on the deal bringing in Karlsson and that only cost them a conditional 1st. Toronto fans can't have it both ways... Marner can't be the "problem" who gets paid too much and is too soft AND get a big haul for dumping him to someone else. His realistic value? Look at what the Pens got for Jake Guentzel. Guentzel scores more than Marner and the Pens got Michael Bunting and 3 prospects. Carolina didn't even give up any of their top 3 or 4 prospects in that deal. I would say that is probably the type of deal Toronto fans could expect if they wanted rid of Marner. A middle 6 guy and a few 2nd/3rd round type guys... unless they want to pull of some sort of like-for-like deal with someone.

He is the worst #1 d-man in the playoffs. What has he done in the playoffs ever as a #1 d-man? 11yrs in the league and hasn't developed a slapshot or one-timer.
