Steam Launch Options (Copy/Paste into where I show in the video): -DX12 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES GameUserSettings.ini location: C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\HLL\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor Change "YOUR_USERNAME" to whatever your PC is called, and if you can't find the folder at all then change the drive name from "C" to whichever drive you have windows installed on. If you're playing on Gamepass: @MadVolbeat Just to add on if you are playing on gamepass just create a shortcut of the launcher on desktop right click,properties and add the same codes (-dx12,-useallcores etc...) on "target", and its the same as you do in Steam. - Thanks, MadVolbeat! :) EBackwards: If you're gaming on a 4k Monitor while running -dx12 mode and every single time you get into a gun fight and right click your game micro stutters. This happens many many times a match. No matter how much you run around, you almost always stutter when right clicking. The FIX: - At least with Nvidia, you need to disable your Shader Cache in your graphics drivers. So if you're at 10GB, 100GB or Unlimited, change to disable and click apply. - Now, REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER. The Shader Cache only clears on reboot. - Once you reboot, go back in and enable Shader Cache. For good measure, REBOOT again. - Now, fire up HLL and start running around in your maps. NOTE: You will get a good amount of stuttering due to the rebuilding of the Shader Cache for a while but it will smooth out and when it does, it's smooth for good! - Sometimes the Shader Cache doesn't play nice be it where it might be on your hard drive (if that has issues) or the files itself. It wasn't till I did the rebuild as above that I no longer stutter. Good Luck! This is insane It improved my game massively I ran a 4080 and a ryzen9 5900x (I know there's some bottleneck here I'm saving up for a 7700x build lol) and I was getting stutters and fps drops from 80 to 40 fps, now the game never drops from 100 fps and goes higher

Wow, I’ve been playing for years. Tried a lot of things. Knew most of these tips. The change at 15:15 was something I had never seen and made a massive difference. I was stuttering at 40-60 with a great setup. You’re right. I sit around 100fps now. Huge.

gsync(and freesync) plus vsync with a -8% max fps cap will net very good motion consistency and clarity, no screen tearing, and adds a very small amount of input lag. A lot of people associate very bad input lag with only vsync on.

I have the same settings as you and did this a couple years ago. It always ran great up until recently when using Nvidia GeForce Shadowplay to record gameplay. As long as Shadowplay is turned on ready to record I get consistent microstutter. If I shut ShadowPlay off it's not as frequently but still stutters. My GPU is a Gigabyte 8GB 3070 ti OC, 32gb ddr4 ram. This doesn't happen in any other game. Not even Squad44 in 4k.

Same issue, had to disable nvidia ingame overlay still getting a stutter every 5ish min. also noticed 100 fps average on most maps but stalingrad and mortain it struggles to achieve 60. game needs some serious optimization overhaul.

3:33 i leave it off and change the opacity right down. otherwise the footsteps you dont know are your team mates unless youre looking at the map all the time.

So nameplate occlussion off and what does nameplate opacity has to do with steps as sound?

@@LatteBrat having occlusion on means your team mates names only show when in line of sight. if theyre behind a wall or hedge a vehicle they dont show. so if theyre running on the other side of a wall you wont know until you see them unless you check your map. you will find yourself killing or shooting your own team mates more often, or checking your map to confirm it is a team mate which is also annoying. so turn the opacity down and leave the occlusion off. then their icons/names dont get in the way and you can see through them when an enemy is in between you and a team mate

Keep shadows/foliage lowest even with a good PC. 2 You will see more, less dark corners and less bush detail is drawn...no more complaints of how did they see.

Can you change settings in video settings in game while playing? Say you on the file you got distance on mid and you want to add it to high would it go on high or not . I know soon as you come off the game it would go to settings that you set up . Thanks for making this sweet video , helped alot .

Hi, yeah it will change the setting in-game, but it won't save it after you close the game and launch it again, at least while the confi (ini) file is set to read-only.

The only thing I’m not understanding is your take on the framerate cap in the ini files. I’ve never seen a difference when changing it other than the cap in menus. Which is what i was under the impression the ini file cap is for. This line of code wasn’t there until people complained about the gpu utilization being through the roof in the menus. Then Black Matter introduced this cap in the code to keep gpu utilization down while in menus. I’m someone that is very sensitive to framerate fluctuations and low fps in general. I can absolutely see when a gaming is running at a lower fps. My ini file cap has been set to 60 for years and the only 60 fps cap in the game that I see is during the menus before launching a game. Other than that I go between 130 to 200+ on my 4090. In general im just saying I believe this ini 60 fps cap to only apply to the menus. If it weren’t, I believe i would see the difference between 200 fps and 60 with my eyes even if the numbers were lying to me.

Dunno man! Im no expert, all I can tell you is after getting my new PC set up, even running the game at 120+ fps on Stalingrad, i could tell the refresh rate was low and this little line of text fixes it, and it's not the first time i've experienced it! Maybe it's just for me, who knows :P

I wonder how it really works, because ingame steam overlay is showing me consistent 100+ fps, but when i checked the file, framerate limiter setting is set to 60. Can someone explain how much fps i really have? On other games, like bf i get super smoooth gameplay on same framerate. Here, not so smooth

I don't know the ins and outs of the technical details, but the way i've always looked at it is like this: The "framerate limiter" is actually a "refresh rate limiter", and is seperate from your fps. So your fps can be 100+, but if your refresh rate is 60 then it will feel stuttery and as if you have low fps. Generally though I wouldn't overthink it, just increase the refresh rate in the ini file and see if you feel a difference in game, then you'll have the only answer that matters :) "Is it better or is it worse than before?"

Awesome video! Thanks so much . I'm new to HLL, but hoping you can help maybe help with a bit of frame stuttering. Just a frame or two of hesitation. But its annoying and can throw off my aim and spotting of enemies etc when in game. I have tried a few things to correct this. Any ideas? Is it just HLL? No other games do this. Built my own computer about 2 month ago and specs are AMD Ryzen 7 7800 X3D, 32 gbs ddr5 RAM, ASUS TUF RTX4070 Super...so computer should not be an issue for this game. I lock my FPS to 124, otherwise I get anywhere between 200-250 FPS. I also have a gig per second internet connection. In the launch options in steam I have "-dx12 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES" in it, and all gfx drivers are updated. Anyone have any ideas? The only thing that seems to make it somewhat better is running it on dx11. Because my computer fairly high-end the game still runs fine but it cuts the stutters to maybe half. You mentioned in your video that when you switch it to DirectX 12, it may stutter at the beginning as it's loading and caching shaders.... Could this just be the problem and I have to just continually play the game and eventually these will all go away? I upped shader cash storage to 100 lbs. Or is it HLL just isn't optimize very well and micro stuttering is just part of the game. Thanks so much for your time.

Hi, experienced this too when i started playing, and things will get better once all maps are cached. Just give your PC the time to do it cuz maps here are too big and it will stutter if it’s your first time on certain parts of the maps. 100+ fps on a R5 5700x3d RX 6600xt, so your build will easily be smoother. The performance in HLL has never been perfect and there can be the occasional frame freeze occasionally on some systems, but it could also just be the maps caching after enabling DX12, in which case yeah you'd just have to play more and it would get better by itself. It might also be worth checking your system's power settings to make sure windows itself is running at "maximum performance" instead of power saver mode, and then in the Nvidia control panel there's an option there specific to your GPU that should also be set to maximum performance, just incase it's trying to manage your power and in doing so causing spikes. Let me know if that's useful!

That's caused by your ini file being set to read-only. The only fix is to go to your ini file, turn off read-only, launch hell let loose, join a game and make all the customization changes you want, then leave the server and exit the game. Then head to the ini file, make the refresh rate change again and set the file to read-only. If the ini file is set to read-only, literally nothing you change in game will be saved after closing it down and launching it again later.

Not viable, DX12 has a much higher crash rate. It's not even supported by the devs, it's just a default UE4 flag that forces it. Foy was broken for months for anyone trying to play on DX12. Our entire clan swapped for a week and we had issues left and right (across ~50 players PCs nvidia/amd etc)
