Nice work on the E34 Josh. Just a bit of a tip for the future, I've re-made loads of fuel lines now with copper pipe, and you can get either brass or copper olives (as used in compression fittings) to fit the pipe. If you solder these in position a few mm from the end of the pipe it makes a ridge for the rubber hose to grip onto. The threaded bush thingeys can be re-created using what I call coupling nuts for threaded rod. These are basically extra long nuts that are used for joining 2 pieces of threaded rod together. You can grind the edges off if you wish or just leave them hexagonal, trim to length and weld them on.
@Joshwaa___2 ай бұрын
Good idea with the copper, was trying to think of a solution, but it was a breather so wasn’t tooo worried. the thing about those threaded pieces you mention, is that they’re like m4 thread! and would be really messy to weld on due to not being able to get to the back side of this panel!
@bobfrankish88832 ай бұрын
@@Joshwaa___ OK I get you now. They look a lot bigger on camera. Those things are a pain. They have them down the centre of the plastic clamps for the fuel and brake pipes on E34 and E31. I had a few of them on the E31 where the M4 screw was seized solid into the bush. I had to drill them out, but they are hard as hell, I had to buy a carbide bit. What I ended up doing, cut off the bush leaving about 5mm welded to the body, drill and tap it again to M4, then use some M4 stainless allen cap screws, the clamps still centre on the bit of bush you have left. Really awkward and labour intensive, but better than having to strip out all the carpets to carry out welding.

@@bobfrankish8883 Totally agree, been there, got the T-shirt. The tiny screws have a decent head but because they're mild steel and rust in situ, they just shear off. If only BMW had used stainless screws! Well, they used stainless clips so why not go a little extra and provide stainless screws to match, arrghhh!

Easiest way to replicate that stud is to put a riv nut through from the other side. So unlike them usually being flush, you’ll have the bit sticking out so it’s away from the surface.

Really like the Touring, really, really like the Touring 😎 Some fine work there Josh, the fuel and brake lines look seriously neat, nice touch with the original clips. Well done with the bolt extraction too, most of mine sheared off, absolute pain. Did my fuel lines some years back in Kunifer, shaping them was challenging with them being so long, but I managed it all in one piece. Same story with the breather pipes too. I know there's editing, but still that was a rapid turn around, well done Josh!

How do you paint the backside of the butt welded panels? Where the weld through primer burns off? The welded seam will be the most vulnerable area to rust of the whole repair won't it?
@Joshwaa___2 ай бұрын
Those areas won’t be exposed to the elements. they’re sealed away away from moisture etc! but also so filling them areas with cavity through small bungs, is all you can really do,

Ive just been reading through the comments about Taylor and its so transparent the sort of person he is, wanting everything and more for nothing as if this is owed to him. Its mad how the internet can paint a picture of someone but when you read between the lines you slowly start unmasking the truth. Love your videos. Anyone who knows about this type of work knows its not cheap and requires several man hrs of fabrication. A lot of people seem to forget that time is money. Keep up the good work mate and dont let anyone take you for granted
