They should just have a buffet of heated vomit that you spoon into your bowl and eat and you produce more vomit by vomiting from the disgust of eating vomit and meanwhile they have staff patrol the dining room waiting with big containers who run over immediately to collect it so that way they never run out and the same vomit is always recycled. The idea here is that the same organic material being processed and chemically altered through so many people's digestive systems would after many years transmute it into a heretofore unknown state of matter that we could then harness to power a new type of machine that probes the very mind of God.

That was a navy ship, not a cruise ship. Cruise ships take all measures to avoid weather like this while navy ships don't have to and sometimes have to go through bad weather to get the task they are assigned done.

I was stationed on a Coast Guard High Endurance Cutter in the late 70s. Bridge was 30 feet above water (usually LOL). During an October storm in the Bering Sea near the Pribilof Islands, we took green water over the bow that tore off life line stanchions, bow flag stanchion, the gun turret basket antenna (welded to top of gun house), port and starboard whip antennas, and bashed in a front bridge window. This was my first patrol so I learned all about why there were hand holds on all of the overheads and boot tracks on the bulkheads LOL.

Rest In Peace to those sailors who probably never made it pass large waves.
@homerp.hendelbergenheinzel6649Ай бұрын
since the draupner wave seefaring history has been pretty much rewritten. physics stated that the highest possible height of a wave would be like 16m ( i cant actually remember the number, its between 12 and 18 meters). the draupner wave had 25m and they had to remodel wave physics that account for such waves. they shot up a satellite to measure waveheights around the globe and it came up with 1 "freak wave" per day in certein regions ( below south africa at kap hoorn is very dangerous -> avoid at all costs xD). waves above 30m have been detedected. this immediately shed a new light on old telling of seaman ( think of the kraken that grabs a ship and pulls it below the water surface - thats exactly what a monster wave would do - this must have been so terrifying in the middle ages...). and a lot of losses of recent times have been perceived as being due to monster or freak waves now, like the "münchen" for example among many others.

The unsinkable shi....... owwww I remember the last time we said that.
@homerp.hendelbergenheinzel6649Ай бұрын
did you know that the company and people that built the titanic actually never stated that it was unsinkable. in fact, there are only two references to the "unsinkable" myth: in two newspapers journalists claimed that the ship would be unsinkable. this was due to their limited level of perception or knowledge of the physics behind building a ship and making it "as unsinkable as possible". they both probably got something wrong when they went on a tour at the ship. or journalists back in the days were as bad as today, but that seems highly unlikely to me.

I worked on tug boats as a deckhand when I was younger. We got caught in rough sea's a time or two. The one I'll never forget was off the Fraser River. The tide was running out and and high winds were pushing against the flow of the river. We had no hope of recovering as the tide was too strong. A tug that assisted us said that when we went down into a trough, he would loose site of our mast light. The mast light would have been 30 ft in the air. Our boat was only 40 ft. I puked all night long.

Aa a kid I was on the MS Astor a German cruise liner brought over to South Africaa coastline, it was often seen on postcards, cruising down rivers... We were forced to flee Mauritius on holiday as a cyclone was on the way..We boarded and raced the cyclone back to Durban but it caught us.. When we looked out our port holes we only saw swells.. they were WAY bigger than in this clip. It was bad, you could barel see the sky when we looked out - just walls of water. A couple of years later, a cruise ship better suited to the seas conditions went down, the 'Oceanos'.. miracle we made it.
