Been on this myself and it reminded me of when i was a little boy my dad took me round the tram shed and i have been in love with the Blackpool trams ever since - just hope they don't make it like York railway museum as that to clean and there's no life in the exhibit's.... keep them running.... every time I'm in Blackpool i will be booking on this tour... Also Jane Cole is a great lady and the best thing to have happened to Blackpool Transport - used to be my boss on virgin west coast -

I can assure you, that if Bryan Lindop has absolutely anything to do with it, which he most certainly currently does, it will not be a "stuffed and mounted" museum in any shape or form. He knows that things deteriorate if left static, plus they can earn FAR more out on the track than sat looking shiny in a hall. And I totally agree with you about Jane Cole. Between Jane and Bryan, and the excellent band of volunteers, in my humble opinion, they could not be in better hands. Cheers.

Hi, thanks for the tour. 6:10 - If I'm not mistaken, the machine is a 'tyre turning lathe', used to make sure the tyre is 'round' (no bumps) and the correct profile (so the wheel stays on the track). The machine for changing tyres usually had a ring of heaters (gas or electric) on the floor, but I couldn't see one (or, it could be used to rotate the wheels so you can find the valve to blow the tyre up? ;-) ) Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas to you and your viewers! 🎄
@dancedecker3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. The gas ring was right next to the lathe, but as it is situated at ground level, it wasn't as obvious as it might have been, but it is definitely there.

When I visited Blackpool on a 7 day holiday with my brother when I was 15 (brother 13) with no parents to tie us down and we had the freedom of Blackpool I took pictures of the trams in there. As far as I can remember there were a lot more illuminated trams back then (1983) including the Rocket,Ship and Train. I’m fairly sure there was a Phantom of the Opera one.

I used to love travelling on those Spivs (Coronation Tram) that I used to let all the others go past so I could ride them. The trailer cars were cool as well. The BBC used to have their own dedicated tram to televise the illuminations as well. Saw it in a sorry state in the shed back in the 70s.

I remember so many of these trams from the mid 80s-onwards :) Car #1016 (formerly Glasgow and Paisley) joined the Blackpool Heritage fleet a few years ago for resto - its good that these guys accept classics from across the country to save and preserve for us all to enjoy
@dancedecker3 жыл бұрын
Yes and Paisley 16/ Glasgow 1016 ,was shown in the body shop, next to the shot of the skeletal Balloon 704. Stephen said it was one of two Lytham trams they had, but in fact the nearer the camera one in blue is the only surviving Lytham car. The body nearer the back wall, was in fact Paisley 16.

@@thesloaneranger1 I am.sorry to hear that about your dad. Yes I would think a mooch around the depot and works would be most helpful and enjoyable for him, from what you say. The Blackpool Belle was withdrawn in the late seventies/ early eighties and was bought by an American tram museum. Sadly they mostly dismantled it fir spares, but I believe it does survive in some greatly cut down form. The "Rocket" or "Tramnik One" as it was originally called, was shown to survive at "Tram Town" in the video.

Blackpool heritage used to do the REAL Tram Driving Experience, where you could actually drive a balloon tram up and down the tramway for a few hours. I'd love to do that. They used to charge a few hundred pounds for the experience. That would go a long way for the roof fund.
@dancedecker3 жыл бұрын
I fully agree and I am led to believe, that once we are rid of, or at least better positioned to cope, with this pesky "Kung Flu", they will return to having driving experiences, which as you quite rightly said, would fill the roof fund tin up, that bit quicker.
