He has always had a great fondness for Maurice. He initially auditioned for James Ivory for the movie A Room With A View as Cecil, a very bumbling rather comedic role, but Ivory saw the talent in Grant. He was the first actor cast in the role and Ivory didn't even reconsider anyone else.

I worked with Hugh on one occasion about 7-8 years ago, and what struck me was his focus on his craft but at the same time being able to appreciate every single person on set. He’s a good guy!
