Amazing and easily one of the most powerful performances from that legendary festival! Great stuff!

It was a great thing that Monterey had everyone from Hugh Masekela to Hendrix, Ravi Shankar, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, etc. Now THAT'S open mindedness.

This is an amazing performamance. Would love to hear the whole concert someday, hopefully it still exists. There are several edits unfortunatley that become obvious the more times you watch it, mainly the one at 1:12.

Though much too short, the trombone solo was excellent

I'm assuming 2:20 is an edit. If it is or if it's not it's one of the more amazing and mind numbing musical parts I've heard. I get the chills every time.

Isn't it though? Especially now that the Master has passed.

I love this song! I've listened to Masekela for years, but can anyone recommend some other '60s/'70s African bands with that surging, highlife jazz sound? I've never managed to find others with this groove.

Fela Kuti. Listen to his album called Zombie. It's afrobeat though, but similar to this. He trained a bit with Hugh.

Does anyone know what he is singing? What is the translation of the lyrics? Any help is much appreciated.

According to Google Translate, Bajabula Bonke is Zulu for "Everyone is happy".
