Dear Sonya and Hugo, I recently discovered your channel and the blog „Parisian Gentleman“ and I immediately fell in love with both of you and your work. It was my start in the sartorial world. You woke my interest in the craftsmanship and the qualities of a real suit. In fact, I rewatched most of the episodes today and made a wishlist for sartorial things I want to work for. This day will mark my start to save up money to invest in it in things, that will last me for a long time. A big thank you to both of you and your team, that provide these entertaining and interesting articles and videos. Best regards from Germany Fabian D.

Love your brown suit! When I saw it, it changed me ideas about brown (a colour I vhave always hated) completely. Such a natural colour, so versatile, now I get it I amazed I did not see it before. So this is what you do Hugo, you open people's eyes, don't stop, it's such a fantastic contribution to the overall upliftment of this world.

@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын

One of the things I love about this series, is that it's like watching a great movie, but where the hero is the suit, and you're sat in the cinema waiting for the hero to appear, defeat the villain, and save the day! lol When talking about the 7,8,9 suits, there was a part of me that was crying out to see the entrance of a 6/1 in an off-white linen. When it didn't appear (and of course i'd been influenced by my own style here) I tried to imagine it and to be fair, I think because of your hair colour/style (which I love and am jelous of haha) it would have been a difficult look to pull off. Not one to give up on an idea though, have you ever considered a double-breasted suit, in linen, perhaps a rose gold, similar to how your chair appears on my screen, or perhaps the wall behind you, combined with a superfino Panama? I think those could work, but for me it's more of a daydream than an attempt to rewrite a sartorial Game of Thrones with my own happy ending haha! Thanks as always for the insights!
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Dear Ian, I do have an off-white 6/1 double breasted in Irish linen and it's wonderful. It will be covered in episode 3 of this series. Concerning the hat, I can't wear one because of my hair and the size of my head... But that's another story. Cheers my friend ! Hugo

@@SARTORIALTALKS Ahh, great minds think alike! I shall look forward to seeing it in all it's glory! Re the hair, and there's something about summer and a Panama that are almost inseperable, but I had the same thought in that it would need a change of hairstyle to work, and that would be too much sacrifice for not enough return. Keep the hair and stick to making those of us who are more 'follically challenged', jealous :) Many thanks! - Ian

Dear Hugo and Sonya, Is there a particular color scheme, pattern, or style that you would safely recommend for a summer suit? (ex. More energetic and playful colors vs a serious controlling power suit) And consequently, are there off limit designs that destroy the image of a summer suit? Kind regards.
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Well it depends on your personality, your taste and more important how you can pull off audacious attires. But if you are at the beginning of your sartorial learning curve, we would recommend off white linen or patterned (window pane for example) wool blend for summer (wool, linen and silk). Hope it helps, Cheers, Hugo & Sonya

Dear Solo, Brioni used to be the best ready-to-wear in the world and has gone through very difficult times recently. I don't know where they stand today in terms of quality (and value). Cifonelli is first and foremost a bespoke company (while they now offer some MTM and even RTW). Hi Hugo, great vid as usual. Could you recommend a few bespoke tailors based in London? Thanks
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
In London ? Well, on Savile Row you probably have the biggest concentration of bespoke tailors in the world. My favourites are Chittleborough & Morgan, Michael Browne, Edward Sexton (off Savile Row) and, let's say, Henry Poole for formal garments. Among so many others. Best! Hugo
@ianarn5 жыл бұрын
Very nice Hugo! What do you think of the off Row tailors in London such as those in the city? Does the canvas of the jacket always have to be sewn in by hand? or is a machine stitched bespoke suits just as good?
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Dear Ian, honestly on or off Row doesn't make a difference for me. A good tailor is a good tailor wherever he is. And a bad one is a bad on even if he's located in a premium location. Concerning the canvas, most of the bespoke jackets have hand-stitched canvas although some tailors used "pre-sewn" canvas with a machine called the Stroebel which mimics the loose stitching of a canvas. I hope I answered properly your question. Hugo
@ianarn5 жыл бұрын
SARTORIAL TALKS yes thanks Hugo! I’ve tried both Graham Browne in the city for a jacket and Sartoria Solito for a jacket and have enjoyed wearing both equally even though the canvas has been sewn in different ways. I’m unable to discern the difference personally but I can tell when I put on a RTW fused jacket that it is a little more restrictive in terms of movement and fit. Not of the same quality as a cutter making the suit to your individual pattern.

Love you Hugo! Quick question - do you have any famous gentlemen that you receive fashion inspiration from? I look to Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, and of course Robert Redford in “The Great Gatsby” :)

Thank you Brad! Yes I love Grant, Cooper and also Astaire. You can read this piece on our website : parisiangentleman.co.uk/2013/03/10/astaire-cooper-and-grant-they-dont-make-them-like-that-anymore/ Cheers! Hugo

Hi Hugo! As always, great video! I noriced a lot of your suits have besom pockets. Would you also recommend this for a single breasted business suit for a young professional?
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Dear sir, it's purely a matter of taste. I prefer besom pockets because I have the belief flap pockets damage the clean line of a silhouette. But it's just a matter of taste I guess. Cheers ! Hugo

Will you ever get a heavy weight winter suit? Maybe in Harris Tweed
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
I do have a heavy weight winter suit : a heavy flannel by Fox Brothers (bespoke by Dalcuore in Naples). It will be covered in part 4 of this series. Cheers! Hugo

Will we have a chance to see any non tailored clothing in the next episode? Or perhaps odd trousers, ties, pocket squares, etc.
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Dear Sebastian, sorry but you'll only see tailored clothing in this series. The rest will be covered in other Sartorial Talks, but my wardrobe is 100% bespoke. Cheers! Hugo

You, Sven, and Kirby should take all your clothes, dump them in a racquetball court, and then you should run into the court naked and see who puts together the best ensemble. I would greatly enjoy that sartorial ninja action.

A 6 on 3 is not unusual on overcoats, especially on pea coats. Cheers! Hugo

If we are taught to have enough suits to rotate them outnso we never wear any 1 suit too often to preserve it. If I get a summer suit wouldnt I want to wear that every day in the summer?
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Hey Victor, unless you work in suits, one summer suit maybe enough to start with. If you work suited, then you need to possess at least two (three is better of course to rotate). Cheers, Hugo

Merci d'avance.

Hi! I have a question, I am getting engaged mid August this year, i wear single breasted suits as i feel more comfortable in these and suit these better - my broad rugby player physique. What colour and type of suit do you recommend me for my engagement party? (In the evening) . Thank you
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
If it's in August (and if it's warm) I would go for a off-white linen suit or an off-white wool/silk/linen blend suit, single breasted. Shawl lapels preferably. Where do you live ? Hugo
@shivrajb6405 жыл бұрын
SARTORIAL TALKS thank you for this, i live in the UK. Really hard to find anything here! :-(

Hi Hugo, another fantastic video, thanks for that. How would you rate Lapo Elkann's taste and style in double breasted suits? I think he has a great taste implementing "sprezzatura" in the best possible way.
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Hey Theo, Lapo is a little bit extravagant for my taste but after all he's the grand-son of Gianni Agnelli, so he had the right training I suppose. Cheers, Hugo

May I ask you what do you think about having some silk in a suit?
@SARTORIALTALKS4 жыл бұрын
Dear Michele, this is very frequent, especially for summer blends like linen, silk and wool (a staple fabric for the summer suits and jackets). Best, Hugo
@michelelaneve32674 жыл бұрын
@@SARTORIALTALKS Thank you for your swift reply, I read adding silk gives to the suit a better strength (particulalrly with 130s and above wool)
