It's practically confirmed that MJ's Invincible album's promotion was deliberately sabotaged by Sony.

that makes zero sense. They released it, they want their money back. They spend a ton on recording it, producers, Michaels demands and gave him expensive videos. It just wasnt selling like it should so they stopped pumping more money into it they would never get back since it freefalled in the charts quickly. It's easy business decisions.

@MarvinGuatemalanBoy Invincible is overrated, it’s such a lacklustre album with a few good songs here and there. A lot of the times he just sounds like he’s straining his vocals. It doesn’t exactly have his signature sound, it just sounds like any other 2000s album at the time. Such a shame this was his last album he made before his death (and no I am not counting his posthumous albums)

It’s crazy to me that people believe that MJ just “mistakenly thought he was getting an award” Award shows were exploiting him for decades, getting him to attend, providing them with the ratings, and then snubbing him and not giving him the recognition he deserved. All the hell and humiliation that he went through by the media was due to the fact that they all knew he didn’t need the music industry, the music industry needed him.. they had to do what they could to bring him down

I was thinking that too. People were more honest then and less “woke” and tbh I kind of miss that but Jimmy Fallon saying “I think he’s had some work done”pissed me off. Michael was bullied a lot in those days. I don’t think he was given the respect he deserved I mean he MADE MTV. Other artists like Madonna of course made the station what it was but Michael was the first artist who made experimental videos like “Thriller” took it to to another level There would be no MTV without Michael.

It's weirdly interesting how MJ saved MTV's fading ass, his nephew once confirmed that MTV called MJ begging him to make an appearance to boost their rating. Then not only he showed up but he gave one of the most iconic performances in MTV history which was the 1995 VMA. But later they started to use him as a punching bag and never gave him the respect and honor he deserved. Sometimes I wonder what if MJ was white and did exactly the same thing to make MTV. They probably would have kissed his hand and feet and given him a special award every year, with a golden chair in the front center for him to sit.

Michael Jackson did not want to go but then was told he was gonna receive an award. That was the only reason he was there. His make-up artist has talked about how upset he was that night after the whole thing. I think his manager at the time, Trudy Green, played a big role in the whole fiasco. She did not have his back at all. I can see Jackson declining the invite then Green telling MTV - “hey, if you want him there. Give him an award” So it wasn’t him, it was her. She was also someone who wanted him to wear a prosthetic nose and darken his skin for the music video “You Rock My World”. She had the special effects artist there on set and waiting without Jackson even knowing this idea was going to be presented to him. This upset Jackson greatly and he had a meltdown in the dressing room, sobbing, breaking mirrors and everything Trudy Green was a horrible manager for him.

If you ever decide to cover the short-lived award shows, my ideas would be the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, VH1's Big In Awards, the Young Hollywood Awards and the ones I remembered watching like The Hall of Game Awards, the MTV Fandom Awards, the NewNowNext Awards and the Radio Disney Music Awards (RIP...to Radio Disney. Whatever to the rest.) Edit: I don't know if I'll get another chance to talk about her in the next VMAs videos because I don't know if she's there like in the end but I want to say it here. I miss Michelle Branch, man. Like Olivia Rodrigo, she was ANOTHER half-Asian American pop rock chick who ALSO released HER debut single about romance that became the biggest hit of her career AND songwriting AND album debut at just 18, which was just 20 YEARS PRIOR!!! Not to mention, she ALSO paved the path for other pop rock teen artists to follow, including Avril a year later! She's the only Asian American music act I can think of who crossed over between pop, country and adult contemporary charts. And I just finished listening to what should've been her 2010 follow-up album West Coast Time and it sounded like we were robbed of hearing her natural evolution into a music vet. Imo, talent means nothing to have a successful career if you don't have just as strong of a management team. Taylor should bless her lucky stars she has one. Especially since she herself idolized Michelle Branch, owning a blue guitar because of her and even covering THIS SONG at Michelle's birthstate of Arizona! Todd released his last Song Vs Song episode on KZbin. And I wanted to make some suggestions. Two of my suggestions were All You Wanted Vs I'm With You or Are You Happy Now? vs My Happy Ending Two great songs from two different rocker girls who were growing from teenhood to adulthood at the same time but fell off for different but still sad reasons.

It was a flop for MJ’s standards. Before some people get defensive, the music wasn’t a flop, I sing and know the words to all tracks on that album. Many artists would wish to sell 366k in the first week and 5 million overall for their album but can’t especially with streaming now. It was low for MJ’s standards because SONY failed to support Michael’s vision and promote the album well. They wanted he masters he owned, including the Beatles Catalog or the majority of their catalog. He owed them 1. There was something else I'm missing...They didn't promote Invincible. That's why he set out for his This Is It tour. So he would FINALLY be released. We know the rnd

Not only was Tommy Matola (sp?) trying to eff Mariah over, but so was Puff Daddy. That was back when PD and JL were together and I heard interviews of Mariah’s people saying he basically strong armed them into letting JL have whatever song MC was wanting to sample. You could do a whole video about shady ass JL and her people behind her. She’s not even singing in most of her songs! Ashanti was singing in at least one song but JL acted like it was her singing. bc she can’t sing at all. It’s so dirty. I like some of JL songs, but let’s face it, MC will always be superior to her in almost every way. I mean, JL isn’t even as good a dancer as she claims to be. For someone who constantly says she’s real, she’s really not. She’s a prime example of fake it til you make it bc that’s her entire dancing/singing career. I will say this though, she is a great actress! Her portrayal of Selena was amazing!!!

You sound obsessed. Ashanti didnt sing a Jlo song, she sang backup on a Jlo song and got credited. the raw vocals of I'm Real and Ain't IT Funny are on youtube everyone can hear its Jlo. In 2002 Jlo wasnt with Diddy, they split in late 2000, so thats not true either. All this was about a sample of an old song, both wanted to use. If Tommy Mottola legally got it for Jlo, tough shit. If he didnt, sue him. They didnt so obviously it was legal. Also hate Mottola if you area biased lamb, not Jlo. Bu also dont forget mariah used all the Mottola payola she could get and all his ways to further her career, get airplay and become who she became herself. She even married the dude twice her age, even thought we know her type is different, so lets not get it twisted. Jlo had hits, Jlo sold albums, Jlo won awards The dude in this video is biased enough bringing his one sided view up in a video where Jlo won and Mariah was not even nominated or present.

The album went #1 in 11 countries, the single debuted at #1 on the 200 chart, and was even nominated for best male pop vocal performance at the Grammys. It was not flopped compared to other artist but compared to MJ's level and lack of proper promotion was the key reason. I assume many fans intentionally did not buy the album cuz of the MJ's fude with sony cuz the sales money goes to SONY.

8:20 but the thing is a flop in Michael’s standards is a success in others. Invincible sold more than most of the new artist’s that came out in 2001, but because its Michael they highlight his fails and not his successes. He even sold more than Madonnas album around that time and she had more promotion and support from her label. So it’s just disgusting looking back on this time they treated him horribly and then when This is it tickets went on sale everyone became a fan again. Wishy washy.

Eminem said some homophobic shit in his songs, but he isn't a homophobe himself. There is also a lot of Pro-LGBT bars in his songs. He literally in one song says "there's no reason why a man shouldn't marry another man". He is also extremely close with Elton John. Like very close. Elton John helped Em get through his addiction issues. And once he got tired of being called homophobic all the time, he started bringing Elton John out as a surprise during his shows. Elton also says that Eminem is not in any way homophobic, he means those rap bars as seriously as he does the bars where he is rapping about his brain falling out of his skull, or him kidnapping and r-wording little kids. It's meant to be offensive on purpose. Just in case some of you actually thought Eminem was some huge homophobe.

@loveutill theendoftimes Because that was what the culture and language was like back then? It was a very, very different time, and he doesn't really do it anymore. He even apologized to Tyler the creator for saying it in a diss towards him, despite it being a diss song. The whole point of rap and Eminem at that time was to be provocative. Like Eminem has made bits where Bruno dropped his bare ass in his face during a major award show around the same time, and he was also putting on a completely straight face while coming out as gay in an interview around the same time. No one who was actually homophobic would do that. Do you also believe everyone who ever has, or even still does use the r-slur is ableist? Or are all guys that call their mates b**ch or c*** mysoginustic?

At that time, he didnt have any pro gay lyrics at all. I know his old albums. He might have changed his attitude recently but in 2002 he didnt.
