Shes my fave and I appreciate that she would always sing live. She has her moments but she's never really had an awful performance. She's much better when she doesn't have to do choreo. Love On The Brain at the Billboard Awards in 2016 and Stay at The Grammys 2013. She can def sing. I admit I wasn't a huge fan of how she did 4 separate performances for the Vanguard award. I get she has so many hits but I would of loved 1 big performance of her biggest songs. I think the 4 diff one kinda took away from it

MTV always use Britney to promote and/or hype themselves up, to then do her dirty. Always. She carried and defined that show for years, had iconic performances and videos one after another, which just isn't happening anymore by today's pop girls. Yet they didn't give her one single award until her 10th year in the business. She won 3 awards in 2008, 1 in 2009, 2 in 2011 and then never nominated her ever again. She still hasn't got the icon award yet either. The issue with her 2016 performance was that they only allowed her a limited time to perform after not performing for almost a whole decade. She also had to share the performance with another artist. Yet Beyonce was given a 15 minute medley of her whole album. It was like they turned the VMAs into a Beyonce world tour for a bit just before Britney. Given what happened with Sarah Silverman in 07 when Britney last performed, this just wasn't good enough. The fact that the BBMAs that same year prior to the VMAs gave Britney almost 8 minutes to perform, allowed her to open the show and gave her the Billboard Millennium Award definitely displayed a huge difference in how the BBMAs treat Britney vs MTV, as well as what kind of show Britney can put on with extra time too. Also given the fact that Rihanna was getting the Vanguard award that year, it didn't make sense, nor feel or look appropriate that Beyonce was getting another chance to have a long ass performance, when she already had one not too long ago for her night when she won the Vanguard award. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's why Rihanna performed more than once, to ensure she got her minutes too understandably, which ultimately left Britney with scraps. And don't get me started with Britney's Vanguard moment back in 2011. Literally 1 minute of tribute to her and then had her intro Beyonce's performance during her acceptance speech. MTV really owe Britney so much more respect and credit. Oh and come on, she did know the lyrics. Her mouth literally read "It's just me, myself and I." 🙄

Britney’s career was being run as a business by her father and management team at this point. Playing it safe and not taking risks was a better business decision than letting Britney make her own career choices and expressing her artistry and personality. Keeping the cash rolling from her vegas shows was making $450k per show so it would have made bad business sense to risk that by sparking outrage or negative press. Even though we all know Britney would have killed it if she had the ability to own her art like she used to.
