Pattern, you mean the green/purple patterns when showing the screen? That's the disparity between camera pixels and screen pixels... A known signal processing phenomenon.

Wow, this is surreal. I just got this tablet today, new in box for 200 dollars and am upgrading from the exact Intuos 3 6x8 you showed that I also got in 2004. After getting and using my iPad Pro more than my pc I realized I really should upgrade from that Intuos but boy were they made to last. Thanks for the review and I’m glad to have found your channel.

Hi Taren, glad you found it helpful. I haven't had any problems with it, but don't use it as much as my Wacom Intuos tablet. I just have a real problem with the way I can't see the drop-down menus on the screen because I'm left-handed. If you're a rightie, you won't have any issues.

Hi NGA, I did a little research and this is what I came up with for the answer to your compatibility question: "The Huion KAMVAS GT-191 drawing tablet is compatible with pretty much all computers available in the market. The official HUION website shows the following: “GT-191 works on Windows 7/8/8.1/10, Mac OS X10.11 or above, and is compatible with all major programs and more.” KAMVAS GT-191 Linux is not a supported/compatible OS according to HUION, however, there is people who have made it work by installing the DIGImend 8 drivers" I hope that helps you.... Draw On!!!

17:20 That is why I prefer a "blind" tablet which sits flat on the desk, coupled with the vertical monitor. You see the art from the start as it will be viewed when finished, you hand is never in the way, parallax isn't an issue, you hand is more rested and the whole setup is more stable. Plus those types of tablets are cheaper, as you know, and it doesn't matter if you get scratches on the protective film or the surface of the tablet itself. To me it makes far more sense. I guess the only drawback would be if you're new to tablets and are used to paper. However, despite all the scientific advances, I find that certain things about traditional drawing are still hard to replicate. Thankfully, drawing or painting, then scanning is always an option.
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt5 жыл бұрын
I think you're right about the blind tablet. I think I prefer those because of my left handed problem of covering the brush menu as I'm scrolling. Though I want one that has a larger drawing area than the 6X8 that I have now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it gave me much to chew over.

Brilliant review, been wanting to upgrade for a while, but seeing the 1920x1080 resolution is killing me. So uh, just as an FYI to everyone out there... the specs he showed for the screen tablet at 9:45 are NOT for the GT-191... you can clearly see it is for a GS 1901... not to mention the specs listed contradict the actual physical unit he showed us... There was an HDMI, DVI, and VGA as display inputs, yet this chart says there's no DVI but instead a Display Port. ontop of that, the sheet shown states that the pen input (touch or whatever ya wanna call it) is a 'battery free' design.. and yet, this screen tablet obviously uses a rechargeable pen, thus has a battery, or the very least a capacitor.... Also, i love how it says '120% sRGB'... you can not more than 100%... because that implies you are getting more than the maximum, which you simply can not do... and even then, sRGB is NOT what you should ever be using... sRGB is like, the worst standard possible...

Thanks for the review. I've seen other reviews on this particular model of tablet with similar issues. Good price, though. Unfortunately I'm strictly a Wacom guy... I've always liked their products. I'm still using their Cintiq 21UX model, but it does everything I need for now. Some day when money is available I'll probably move up to their newer model. I think the issue with your lagging brush may be with your computer hardware, but don't quote me. Those issues happen with me sometimes. I use Clip Studio Paint as my main painting program and don't have those issues with their brushes. Thanks again.

I get it John, up until I reviewed this monitor, my number one tablet was my Wacom. I don't think I'll be a drawing monitor kinda guy though, just because of me being a lefty and the scroll bars being on the right hand side. But I sure love the idea of being able to draw right on the screen. Thanks for the great discussion! BTW, I've never heard of Clip Studio Paint. I'll check it out. The lines on the monitor are cause by the difference in refresh rate between the monitor and the camera. It only shows like that when recording the screen.

Hey Steve. Looks like I'm first on the comments. Lucky me! So fun to see you review these guys too. I was contacted over a year or so ago about reviewing one of their GT line but the timing wasn't good. Glad to see you do one. They are such a good value. The moire pattern is due to the camera picking up the refresh rate. We can't see it with our eyes but a camera picks up the pulse depending on shutter speed. I really enjoyed seeing some of your awesome design work. Would have loved to have had some of those type clients. I live in a heavy industrial region and I ended up catering to that clientele, doing a lot of technical illustration work. Not really missing it to be honest. And love seeing more of your cartoons. Have fun with the monitor! ...oh and I had that exact same Intuos tablet. Put in lots of hours with that baby.
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! Thanks for another great comment. Is there something I need to do to remove or avoid that moire pattern? Possibly a camera frame rate? Hmmmm. Like you, when I got my start in Cleveland, almost all of my work was industrial like yours. When I went freelance and started getting work from General Mills in Minneapolis, I decided to move and work there. Much much more fun work. Lots of kids cereal boxes to do... Trix, Lucky Charms, Count Chocula, Frakenberry, Booberry, you get the idea. But eventually, even that gets old and it's time to move on and do something new! I'm thinking that since I'm left handed and my hand blocking the brush menu is such a pain, I might go back to the table drawing tablet without the monitor.
@mindofwatercolor5 жыл бұрын
Draw Paint Repeat you could experiment with shutter speed. With fluorescent strobing that sometimes works. Might work for a monitor too. Yikes, yeah I saw that. Covering the scroll bars would be pretty annoying. Wondering if the page up or down keys might work. Or what about bringing up the grabber hand? I forget if that works or not on panels. I know there are short cuts for moving through layers. Just depends on the panel maybe?

Hello Draw Paint! Thank you for our great review! It helped me decide to finally get this tablet, and overall I am happy with my purchase. I have been using it for over a week now without any problems. I have a question from user to user, if you do not mind; I noticed, on the left border of the screen, a line of white grainy light. For me it seems like if the screen below is not well attached and the light comes from the inside of the carcass; Do you notice it too in your tablet? Perhaps it is just a feature of that model. I will appreciate your kind comments.

Hi DD, I don't have that issue with my tablet. If I were in your place and it happened to me, I'd definitely get in touch with their customer service and have them either fix the problem or replace it. What starts out as a small line can grow into an entire bad screen when we're talking about electronics. Please keep us updated on what happens and if they do right by you. It's one of those things that we all need to know when dealing with overseas companies. I suspect they'll be good about taking care of you, since this is such a small community and social media these days can spread like wildfire. Paint on!!

Great video Steve and timely. I've been using an Intuos Pro for about 4 years and have been considering for a number of months, moving to a drawing monitor. You get used to drawing on a flat tablet while looking at a vertical screen but with these monitors, you're drawing directly. Do you think you will switch completely over to this from your Intuos? I've also read in a few reviews a recommendation to uninstall Wacom drivers before using these monitors. Are you still using both and I wonder if removing the Wacom drivers will solve your issues such as the eyedropper sticking? Thanks again for the review.

I haven't uninstalled my Wacom driver yet... maybe one day. I've actually unplugged the Huion for now and have gone back to using the XP-Pen blind tablet. The problem with my left hand covering the scroll bar window when I'm changing brushes is just too hard to deal with for now. It won't be a problem for you if you're right handed though. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting older and set in my ways, but I like and am comfortable drawing on a flat tablet while looking at my screen. I realize they are a relatively new and growing company, and nobody would love to see someone take down Wacom's monopoly more than me but there are certain features I would feel inclined to pay the extra money for if this is the best Huion can do at this moment...
