Hulusi - Funny Chinese Music Instrument that Sounds like DOS Game Music

A funny instrument called the hulusi (Woo Lo See) 葫蘆絲, review and demonstration by Mak Jo Si, showing you the fun stuff!
Somehow this remind me of the DOS games with some midi music background! Very fun and rarely seen Chinese instrument! Very easy to play and very good for anyone to just begin in wind instruments too!

Hey, I teach English to Chinese students and one of them has a Hulusi. I thought it sounded cool but I don't have time to learn a new instrument. I already can play the recorder very well. Nice video...thank you ! I am having a problem..whenever I finish playing a note there is a sound that follows...hard to describe, but like maybe an automatic back blow. Because of this, cannot get clear notes played for a song.....it's like an extra squeak at the end of each note. How to avoid this !??? Help??

Try to keep your breath pressure till the very end. If your air pressure gets low when you finish a note, the hulusi will make weird sounds

Ass Möde cheap Hulusi does sound the same but they cheap and poor quality I prefer you to buy $100 or $178 hulusi.

Hi, I just bought one hulusi in Shanghai just like the one you're playing but the side 2 bamboos have corkage like to stuck into the bottom holes. My problem is that how to get the tone in proper since ie cannot sound like do re mi fa so its a plain single tone - I think the vibrating copper plate inside the main bamboo does not vibrate - and I think it could due to cold weather and long keeping at the store that had the copper plate inside the bamboo not vibrating. How to get it done in good condition ? Thanks.

Something called google guys, "How to play the Hulusi." Tl;dr, notes depend on how fast you blow, your air volume. Start by covering every finger hole and blow with fast air. Then, let go of the holes one by one from bottom to top, slowing your airstream as you go up the scale.

not really, the ocarina is more whistling and high pitch, this one is very soft and mellow~

Chiinnature not really, there are high and low pitch ocarinas. I'd say ocarinas have a smoother rounder tona than this instrument
