One problem which I've faced In past are employees are evaluated on their individual performance and every activity is treated as a separate activity. While in reality overall performance is dependent on each other Sanika Khanvilkar

100% correct. It is wrong to do individual evaluation. I really appreciate your insight. I am highly impressed! In one of my mentee companies in Mumbai, the topmost management could see the logic. The company has moved away from individual appraisal. The employees are happier and the overall performance is improving. You may like to contact me on 9821163714. I am available on WhatsApp on this number. Also you may like to look at my blog post about the physics of KPI. I noticed that you have begun to follow the blog. Thank you.

This changed my perception and taught me how a simple method of unification of labour can bring such positive changes in productivity of an organization and help to get rid of bottlenecks without incurring any extra cost. This simple yet effective way of people development will lead to organization development and increase the overall productivity.

The central idea is about organising the work and increasing the productivity and the video completely shows that unification of labour has a complete advantage over division of labour. Unification of labour instantly reduced the WIP and the bottleneck that was previously observed in division of labour. Thank you Sir. This will definitely help me identify the bottlenecks in various situations and will also help in finding ways to improve productivity.

Dr.G sir, This is really an eye opening video which shows the power of Unification of labour. As this methods helps the employee also to develop their competencies in new field of work which eventually helps in increase in productivity by 76% which is tremendous for any manufacturing company. It is win - win situation for both the employee and the organization. A perfect combination of HR and operations knowledge applied at a time to increase the productivity of an organization.

Compare to division of labour there were less wasteful activities in unification of labour. Hence from this we can learn that unification of labour increases productivity and also reduces monotonicity of job or activity. Also identification of bottleneck is one of the crucial part, and this can be applied in day to day life. Thank you sir for making us understand this concept by simple activity.

Even a simple operation observed in day to day life can be influencing, like this one. A simple pen composition can teach so much and give different thoughtways to do operations. It proofs that only division of work is not only way to increase the productivity, when we unified the work, it become more interesting, learning, and more practising it even by teaching others can optimize the work environment and increase productivity and efficiency. A great example to apply in life , as by allocating time to each work can increase our efficiency. Thank you Sir for this useful learning in such a simple way.

What I learned from this video is, operations is not about machines but also about people, people development and organization development are directly proportional to each other, but how to organize the work individually is the main question in unification of work. It was something which I never thought about. Thank you Sir!

The main learning from this video is that systematic action and appropriate work provision is the key to handle operations and HR . I understood the difference between division of labour and unification of labour in a better sense . Also it is important that we provide work to a person to their highest capability so that the person is efficient and does not feel their job is monotonous.

This video reminded me about our life in MBA. We are loaded with lots and lots of projects and also with things in our personal life. There are team players in projects and we find it very difficult to find what work to assign each one of us. Also time management becomes an issue. Planning and organizing things properly can decrease frustration cycle and fatigue as well. It also reduces wastage of time. This video has an essence of the same.

Key is in observing and trying to reduce *NonValueAdding* activity, which results in increased and higher productivity. Then accordingly one can go ahead with the right approach. Here NVA activity was less in Division of labour instead of team work. Breaking stereotypes! Isn't it, so some situations do require independent working style and we see here it also helped increase employee efficiency. Great work and thankyou Dr.G and team! In my organisation I have always seen people following division of labor which creates dependancy and most of the time of employees is unproductive due to this method. Also some managers only think about the organisational development. This video is really helpful which shows that in less time how can we do the productive work keeping people development in mind. Every manager should watch this video to learn that people development and organisation development goes parallely

Identifying the bottleneck plays a very crucial role in a organization. After the bottleneck is identified the next crucial part is minimising it through applying various principles and understanding what actually works for your organization. one of the other key aspect to be kept in mind is making the optimum use of available resources, while solving the problems in the organization.

Identifying the bottleneck is a crucial aspect in an organisation . It can be overcomed by Division of labour and Unifaction of labour. Unification of labour reduces the wasteful steps hence being the more efficient among the two. As seen in the video Unification of labour provides a higher output using the available resources along with the least WIP. Thank You Sir for this Video.

This video certainly helps us understand how independency at work creates higher efficiency and job satisfaction amongst people. By reducing the number wasteful steps it clearly helps people not to get agitated and point out the slower processes which then creates frictions at the work place. Happier the people higher the productivity. Happiness and satisfaction at work is directly proportional to the output.

Very informative video Sir. This unification of labour is much more similar to decentralisation of power among employees and highly productive in sectors like services and MSME. After watching this video, I think this method of working has given rise to many startups as they work independently with more liberty and responsibility. Even in manufacturing firms, lead time can be reduced by eliminating the non-value adding work.In a nutshell, this method of working enhances productivity as well as creates enthusiasm among the employees to excel in their respective jobs.

My learnings from this video are : 1) Identification of useful & wasteful work - This concept helps me to get a more clear picture on what aspects work & workforce should be decided. Also I learned that the productivity of any work can't be increased solely by raising the number of working people, but by optimising the same workforce. 2) Bottleneck : Identification of bottleneck & working on, synchronising other process with the bottleneck process. I had applied this concept during my badminton training, in which I used to face difficulty in playing the Dropshot, but then I worked on the other shots as well as Dropshot in such a way that whenever I was in a situation of playing a Dropshot,an easy platform was already been set due to my synchronisation of previous shots & practice on Dropshot.

Dear Sir, I watched this video two days ago. I thought of commenting on it after putting this to practise. My Father is a Pathologist and in our pathology lab I suggested him to apply this technique. From the stage of registering the patient , collecting his blood/urine sample to taking the sample at the investigation table I realised there are a many wasteful operations. So we tried out this method. we eliminated the unnecessary transfer of sample and movement of the technician from table to the collection area by fundamentally changing how it is done. Trust me, just two days of applying it , and we have been able to work faster, the workforce is also happier, there is less of hustle and bustle and has increased everybody's productivity .

Identifying bottlenecks in any process in organisation or life by observation and exploiting them with the help of available resources can be extremely productive. 2. Figuring out the wasteful operation and trying to minimise them can be very effective. 3. Developing myself by learning new skills, finding better methods to work, practicing regularly and teaching others would be effective for me and any organisation associated with me.

In this era of startups, alternate concepts are the key to success and one such idea is very delightfully explained here of how Unification Of Labour can lead to better productivity and reducing Lead time. All it needs is an open mind and the willingness to work in a more open and diverse environment. Multitasking is the key for Customer Delight. Recently i visited a coffee shop where a similar kind of process is followed where a waiter who takes the order from the customer, he only goes and gets the order ready and bring it back to the customer's table completing the customer cycle all by himself. There were three waiters like this in the shop. When I asked the reason for it, one of the waiter replied, that the customer feels more respected when all his needs are taken care of by one person only in the shop like the amount of sugar in the coffee or strong or light coffee according to the need of the customer. Thus, it definitely increases Customer Delight with reduction in WIP as well. Thank You Dr. G for explaining the concept so clearly though this visual display.

There was a high lead time and low customer satisfaction. Also an employee from one department had to wait for other employee to finish his/her task and cannot take any further action till then. However there was another department which was designed to give a better customer experience and that particular department used to handle all the queries of a customer which indeed gave a better customer experience and sense of satisfaction to employees for serving customer end to end.

This video shows why we should analyse the established theories with a questioning mind rather than following them blindly. It makes it clear that division of labour is not applicable everywhere and unification of labour can be a key to increase productivity. For example, if we were to type a word “Division”, if we use one person to hold “shift” key and other to press “D”, then another to press “i”, next to press “v” and so on, it will take too much time. But if only one person does all the typing, then the time required will be reduced drastically.

Sir, this concept of Unification of labor is unique and result oriented. I surely would like to implement this in my organization I used to work for. I was working as a business analyst in a MNC Automobile company. At the start of every new month we had to compile the data of previous month performance , analyse it and present it to the CFO. One team worked on domestic car business, 2nd on export car ,3rd on spare parts business and 4th on Accessories business and finally 5th team had to depend on the data from all 4 teams. The data provided by the primary teams was very raw and 5th team had to do the wait for the data ,compile it and analyse it. This is Division of labor. Instead each primary team takes the onus of analyzing their own data and giving the final result in the correct format to the secondary team, this will reduce the load, work would finish on time and accurately. Then this would be the application of Unification of labor

1.The video systematically shows how the presence of a limiting factor(constraint) in the processes affects the overall output and hence the aim should be to identify constraint and try to limit it in best possible way so that in end it does not affect the productivity as whole. 2.We also learn that how the labour Unification scales over labour division in productivity due to the idle time occurence because of lots of wasteful activity that occur due to labour division eg. picking up the pen, putting the front end etc 3.Thus we see that this simple cost effective technique of labour division when utilized it helps to reduce the effect of constraints untill we remove them completly

This video has changed our perspective on human resource by showing us, how to identify wasteful work and useful work, also identifying the bottleneck, which eventually leads to unification of Labour, thereby, eradicating wip and idle time, which are serious problems and demotivators for an organization.unification also promotes individual development and company development of an organization, thus motivating the environment of workspace and increasing productivity of an organization.

Inorder to increase the productivity its very essential to eliminate the wasteful operation. This video clearly demonstrated how effective the technique of elimination of wasteful operation is, when applied strategically in to the business or situation. It is directly proportional to the productivity. hence Unification of labor is an important and contributing factor in the business.

The main objective of this process is to increase productivity which can be done by learning new skills, finding better methods, constant practising and teaching others. Also, if one person assembles the whole pen then the number of wasteful operations reduces.

In Simple words, this video taught about how one should look for the bottleneck in the process and change the way of work accordingly so as to reduce the idle time and increase the productivity. For doing this one should focus on how to make use of the existing manpower and increase the output and this can be done by 'unification of the labour' (training one person on multiple skills) instead of the 'division of labour' (where the objective is dividing the work in such a manner that more work should be given to each employees which causes increased WIP's and that is not good for any organisation).

Sir, what if we increase everyone's opening wip so that everyone has something to work with and they don't end up ideal? also the time taken to do the same process will be less than time taken by everyone doing the job independently. please share your thoughts on this Sir. thank you.

To expect quality and best possible results at a really nice pace from workers, It is very important to organise the things happening in the process, which could be evaluated by the HR and Operations officials and through the workers experience and satisfaction, the development of both Individuals and the organization can be achieved with less amount of time taken, which will definitely increase productivity of the Organization through its workers.

Sir I have implemented the same in my organization where i used to work.We were taught both coding and testing methods so that we can reduce the lead time. But sir i have one doubt,it will only work if i am specialized in both areas equally or else my lead time would increase as the probability of making mistakes would be higher.

Sir, the concept of unification of labour is good and it even showed positive results. But in a process where we have to perform many operation like in a tower manufacturing company there are multiple operations to be performed like bending, welding, punching, drilling, galvanising and many more. Also the parts are huge and it requires skill operators for each operations. How can we remove the bottle neck and reduce the unproductive activities over there??

The video is interesting as it shows you an optimised way of increasing productivity. But my question to you Sir, can we apply this technique to larger and heavy labour processes??

I can link this to lead time reduction video, were i commented that their must be certain amount of lead time between to process so that you need not have to wait for previous operator to complete her job. Talking about unification of labor, we have tried this in manufacturing industry and got good results too(because set up time at each process was reduced). But I have never thought this by placing it in form of table and analysis at broader level. Only problem with unification of labor is we need labors with wide range of skills set.

Video shows unification of labour to increase productivity as well as person output without actually having to put additional resources and also it helps people learn new skills which results in total organisational development.

some work are ought to and produce singnificant increase in the efficiency when done by a single unit. It can be very well replicated in day to day life as well for example in group assignments if every one does there part properly , the end result could be quick instead of wasting time on everyone doing the one part of the assignment and wasting time over it.This will also make person more accountable as the person knows what is expected out of it.

I have just another way of doing this. It is quite clear that even if we consider that all four of them have different speeds, which is quite true, then also we can notice that 1st, 2nd and 3rd processes, if observed individually, do take more time than the 4th process since in the 4th process, one just need to put a cap which naturally is the easier than rest of the three tasks. So,If i put it quantitatively, ratio of no. of people working for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th process could be 3:3:3:2, leaving no idle time for anyone at any stage... But still i doubt whether it could be a better way of doing it than that shown in the video later on. Sir????
