I'm pretty sure there are people who want the same as you just said and at the same time they say they want segregated classrooms and race specific entry requirements for university. All in the name of progress and care for protected communities. Knowing of evil from other people sadly doesn't prevent you from doing stuff which pretty much is the same. I'm aware that there is a difference between putting people into a zoo and making clubs which only black people can enter but not allowing the same for white students. But for one we only ever see the end result of horrors of history and not the reasoning why it started to get even close to it and the other is that we are sadly surprisingly good at ignoring our own faults. I personally think stuff like the Milgram experiment or finding out how propaganda works and how to analyze bias of different media companies is better at preventing horrors from happening than if we uncover horrible deeds from our own history. This is the saddest documentary I've ever seen. The story of Ota Benga is so heartbreaking! He had every basic human right stolen from him; he certainly never had a chance to pursue happiness. He never had the chance to date, get married and become a father. He was kidnapped from his home, his culture and his family - both blood family and community family. I could not believe that they said that he was treated well! Yes, he was fed, watered, clothed and sheltered. He never was loved. People bullied him and saw him as a lab animal interesting to study, heckle and to "prove" that any person of color, but particularly Africans, weren't real human beings. What he proved was that the "superior" white race, the true world minority, feels threatened by non-whites and need to persecute them to perpetuate their authority.

Thank you for making this documentary. As a Filipino, I cannot imagine a part of our race having been exhibited as part of the "lower" peoples and having an inferior gene pool. Despite our race not having the opportunities that those in the first world have, I believe that the intellectual contributions some of us gave to the world are very much comparable to those intellectual legends given our lack of opportunities and years of abuse from colonizers. It is also so frightening to think that a race believes how superior it is to other races such as ours, as if it is a privilege, and not a right, to exist. This made me grieve. Furthermore, Ota Benga deserved a life, and the tragedy is, as usual, abusers always cover up and never acknowledge past abuses, which enables and strengthens new generations of racists to act like the earth only belongs to them. No it absolutely doesn't. This was a sad chapted in human history, but it's a picknick when you compared it to the dozens of chapters that happened in that same period or even after. Just to name some examples, just in the 1900's alone there have been almost 2 dozen genocides where a million people or more were massacred, yet only 1 or 2 of those are tought in schools. Stuff like the genocide of a million people or more should take a hell of a lot more precedent than the stuff from this video, which like I said is peanuts in comparison. Also, what do the evens from this video matter to people in Vietnam, Argentina, Norway or South Korea, who have no relationship to what happens in a foreign country a century ago? They have much more important things to learn about.

I can't imagine how frustrated and bored these people must have felt. I wouldn't be surprised if some went insane. The first man shown as a performer or zoo captive, I think he had microcephaly or something.
