This is one of my most anticipated games of 2020. I have bought all the Endless games and while I do love the idea behind them; the humour, the focus on lore, the difference factions and so on, I have had a very hard time actually getting into them the same way I am into Total War or Civ or other similar titles. But this really looks like it will finally be the one. EDIT: Love the video btw, with sources and pictures and all that jazz. Would love to see more like this in the future.

The Medjay of Fayium No. The Aryans (who brought Indo-European languages to India) only arrived in Northern India/Pakistan the 1500s BCE. Recognizable Sanskrit only appeared in the mid-first millennium, long after the Harappans. Although there are some symbols that are similar to those of the Hindu religion, it is most likely that Hinduism borrowed them, as the timing just doesn’t line up for the Harappans to have been Hindu.

I guess one of reason that Zhou was pick instead of Shang is that there are more survived official (and first-hand)records on Zhou than Shang, thus give the developer more info to create a proper civ in game Anyway, just happy to see more early Chinese dynasties in game, sometime I just tired of all the 3 kingdom , Ming and Qing stuff

But it's a little weird that the emblematic quarter is defined as confucian school. At that time, Confucian was never a predominant institute across China (many schools such as Daoism, Legalism, political strategists,military strategists etc. thriving at the same time). Confucian was officially promoted and further developed in Han Dynasty. And I think Zhou is picked because of its great contribution to Chinese civilisation as the precursor in many theories and schools which had significant influence over later history.
@askovtk4834
@askovtk4834 4 жыл бұрын
@@willsaint8871 Yeah, I dont think the confucian school is a good choice for the emblematic quarter either. Maybe a better way to do this in a civ game is a building that allow you to switch to different school in Bronze Age with a main bonus (or 2-3 school with minor bonus) and then locked into one school with bigger bonus in later age. Yet, I guess actually includes all schools in one game is kinda a a headache for the dev And I am totally not going to argue about Zhou being a important Dynasty, it being the first dynasty with good amounts of official records remains is kinda side-effect of all the accomplishment Zhou had and the Mantle of Heaven was definitely the most important concept across all times and dynasties

A very interesting vid for a game I hadn't really noticed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. As for the choice of civilisations, there's two I really would like to see. One is Sumer, the oldest civilisation in the world, which could reasonably replace Assyria or Babylon as the predecessor civilisation. Obviously they might appear as DLC if it's successful, but I'm surprised they're not in the game from the start. The other is the Norte-Chico civilisation, the first to start building cities in South America, and one of just five civilisations around the world which are considered 'pristine' (not having been influenced by previous civilisations). It's obscure and there's probably not enough known to make an appearance, but it's not as if a significant amount about Harappa isn't speculative. I might have preferred seeing the Minoans over Mycenae, they're not only a little earlier but they seem too have focused on ships and trade over warfare - probably too similar to Phoenicia, in that respect. And maybe Elam, the early neighbour to Sumer along the Persian Gulf and a region that remained culturally distinct and occasionally powerful through to the iron age. They could even include some of the early Europeans or some of the first steppe nomads, who start to arise in the middle bronze age.

Sounds interesting. I'm Egyptian and i can tell you that Markabata makes no sense. The closest word to it is Markaba which means Vessel, as in navy vessel but it was sometimes used with the same meaning as Vehicle (Which is called Araba in Arabic) A fun fact about the Phoenicians is that they were the first people to circumnavigate the entire African Continent. They were commissioned by Pharaoh Necho (one of the last Egyptian Pharaoh in 600 B.C. to search to search for new trade routes. The fleet started from the Red sea and it took them 3 years to finish the voyage. Not much is known about the voyage it self but they did make it back to Egypt so there's that.

Hey NTLuck! We just wanted to hop in here to respond to your initial comment about the Markabata. Markabata is a vocalization of a hieroglyphic word, which is also likely a word taken from semitic origin, used in middle and late Egyptian. Here are a couple sources we used to find this info: J. P. Allen, Ancient Egyptian Phonology, 2020, p. 36 And J. P. Allen, An introduction to the language and Culture of Hieroglyphs, 2010, p. 224-225 We have some links to the info too, so if you want to read up on it, you can get in touch with us on Twitter and we'll share them with you!

@@silverrain530 Tone =/= pronunciation. Joe have a different tone from 周 but pronunciation wise they are practically the same. As far as teaching foreigners who knows nothing about Mandarin, tone doesn't matter as much as pronunciation. So in this particular example, yes, it is exactly the same, even if Joe is more like Zou then Zhou, but once again, for a foreigner who just uses Mandarin once in a while, it makes no significant difference. Easier to understand if it has the correct pronunciation but wrong tone then the other way round.

So damn refreshing to have another contender in the CIV dominated genre. I hope this game turns out great. Mostly I hope they make the mid game and end game more fun than CIVs "passing time to build a thing...then passing time to build a thing" and so on.

Me: My exam is in two days, I totally don't have time for this video now. I will just click to check what it is about, I'll watch it this weekend. Also me, half an hour later: Well, Babylonians did maths, my exam is basically maths, when I read the entire Wikipedia entrance about Babylonians, I basically study, so everything's fine. But seriously: I totally loved this video! I loved the graphics and just the facts you put in here. You wrote an exceptionally fine script. Listening to that as a second language was sometimes hard since you were a little fast in between, but not not understandable. Would totally watch this again if you'd do this more often. I'm so watching you if you play this game. I'm very excited! One of the best videos I've seen in a while! Fantastic job!

The editing in this video was buttery smooooooth. There’s some nice attention to historical detail in the instance of stuff like Hittite chariots being able to support three people, and man do those Mycenaeans look awesome. A bit surprised that Hittites are classified as ‘warmongers’ when you yourself noted they also used a lot of diplomacy. Seems like they should honestly be reclassified as ‘expansionist,’ with the ‘warmonger’ title going to the Assyrians.

This was an awesome video! I love how it glosses over the history of these civilizations or atleast a glimpse and what they've been most known for. Some I'd heard about but didn't know much about, others I had never. It's very interesting how early these civilizations were at some things and that sadly things they came up with weren't preserved or universally known enough to survive until our ages where things were reinvented without us knowing it until finding out about these civilizations.

And Civ goes for mighty civilizations like... Australia, Canada and Brazil. Nice countries sure but not exactly historically interesting. Or a candidate for teaching the player about a facet of history they didn't already know. And poor choices for a game where you tend to have very little of interest to do in the (modern) time period where these countries actually are relevant - by then you're either spamming end turn to get to a victory condition or you've quit to play a new game. But I guess it's a good commercial strategy for pandering to countries where they could sell a lot more games. Will see how much Humankind does this too I suppose.

Yes... but with Civilization u can choose one of these 41 civilizations from the start to the end game Humankind let's play one of only 10 civilizations from the start, others are just "evolution" of these 10 civilizations to reach the end game Maybe Humankind let's play others if we start the game in different eras, but u wont be able to play with them from Bronze era U'll have only 10 civilizations choice to start the game at Bronze era If you want to play on a earth map with true location start, 1 will be alone in America, 1 in india, 1 in east asia, 1 in south-east europa, 2 in north east africa and 4 in middle-east.
