The Nature of Predators: "We don't eat people!" The rest of HFY: "Oooh, simmered in a butter reduction you say?"

There are better humans to make diplomats out of... you know that techno-sphere that want EVERY part of their life to be electronical? One, they won't run out of rations as flippantly and two they view death less favorably. Although most humans can act extremely cordial under stupid urges and won't make a fool of themselves such as in the story.

Given they taste like shrimp, wouldn't cocktail sauce be a better choice than ketchup? Don't mess with the Poles. They've gotten pretty tired of being kicked around and will kick back.

@duanesamuelson22563 ай бұрын
The kicking around was in the 20th century and not common before or after. Poland spent centuries in intermittent war and on multiple occasions was a significant threat to Russia.
@markfergerson21453 ай бұрын
Shrimp is good in many ways. Besides, cocktail sauce is fairly close to ketchup, and if that’s all you have available it’s close enough. The line is stolen from the Dungeons and Dragons community: “ Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup” And yeah, Poland is not to be trifled with either particularly these days with Russia in the third year of its planned three-day conquest of Ukraine and talking smack about Poland (and Latvia, Lithuania and a few others in the region).

True, one of the major reasons Haiti gained its independence is that the Polish mercenaries the French hired turned on them.

That rings a bell. The final line of the first story was a meme about 30 years ago, IIRC. I used to see in the Tolkein usenet groups something similar to "Do not anger a dragon, for you are crunchy and tasty with ketchup." It probably has an origin far further back.
@AndreasNicklassonАй бұрын
It appears to have grown out of a Tolkien quote from The Fellowship of the Ring, "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger." By 1989, this version of the quote was found on usenet, "Do Not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for you are crunchy and go well with catsup". Wouldn't be much of leap from there to dragons.

Gdańsk seems like kind of a strange example to use for this sort of thing if you really look into the history, especially the things the people did in the leadup to fighting the... Germans. But I suppose every country has at least a few battles they see through rose tinted glasses for the sake of national spirit.

correction, You don't eat sapient creatures... I would absolutely be willing to try it at least once.
@RevokFarthis3 ай бұрын
Oh, yes we absolutely do. Don't let Nature of Predators lie to you, they don't know what they're talking about. See, "Sentience" is simply the capacity to feel, to be aware. Most complex organisms are sentient. "Sapience" is the capacity for wisdom. The ability to learn over time, and the ability to apply that knowledge. Dogs, cats, elephants, whales, dolphins, parrots, octopi, etc, if it can learn it's sapient. (And you try saying we don't eat anything on that list) "Sophonce" is the capacity to reason. It is the definition of human level, or greater, intelligence. We don't eat _sophont_ creatures, (unless you count occasional cannibalism...) but I'm willing to bet that is mostly because we just haven't encountered any yet.
@monkeyboimehoimenoi83953 ай бұрын
I don't really care either way, But people routinely eat octopus which depending on who ask are actually smart enough to be considered sapient. Like I said idc Either way but you should at least know that. people also routinely eat apes, gorillas and monkeys which again depending on what scientists you ask is also considered to be intelligent enough to be considered sapient. Pretty much anything and everything that can potentially be eaten can and will be eaten by someone brave enough.
@satibel3 ай бұрын
@@RevokFarthisif they're dead they're not thinking, so they're fair game. Their first mistake was dying, their second being edible and tasty. In quite a few cultures a mother eating the placenta is common. Also in a few eating the dead is common, either eating a wise grandfather or an enemy who fought well to gain their wisdom or strength. Though eating human regularly isn't great for your health as it can cause quite a few diseases (e.g. prion disease)
