Hello Gerrit, I am very sorry for this setback, although this situation will lead you to new experiences... The Camino is a reflection of life, a sum of lessons and experiences, some good, others better and others less good, we learn from all of them, it teaches us (if we didn't already know it), to adapt, to be elastic and to react accordingly. best possible way to the changes or unforeseen events that may arise... Rest, take care of yourself and recover as soon as possible, Buen Camino!!!

I too tweaked my knee(s) on the first day and spent the first week or so hobbling along with painkillers (certainly not recommended). My knees did come right though and I picked up some hiking poles which I very much should have had from the start and would use in the future.

Hope your knees heal soon and you can start enjoying the Camino! Thank you so much for all the wonderful contents. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the previous episodes from 2023. You have captured the essence of the Camino so beautifully. Quality of the videos and the narrations are very captivating! This time, when you mentioned that you were going to walk the Camino again, I was selfishly hoping that you might walk the Portuguese Camino. What made you walk Camino Frances for the third time? I feel that the Camino is very addictive. Just like you, when I reached completed Camino Frances, I thought I was not going walk the Camino again. Because I was fully satisfied. But after couple of months, I wanted to go back. I didn’t know about your videos during my Camino 2023. Looks like we have crossed paths in the first few days. I saw myself in your videos. Looks like I have crossed paths with a celebrity KZbinr! Good work, Geritt! Looking forward to more videos! Thank you!

Hi Calindia, wait so you find yourself in the background in one of the videos? that’s funny/crazy! 😄 Portugues is a bit short imo, although i will surely walk it, too (the pastries beckon…). I originally wanted to walk from LePuy, but then found out about the weather in May… buen Camino!

I just found your channel and enjoyed the movie of your last Camino and am now watching your diaries of the more recent Walk. I really like the way you photographically capture your walks - true story telling through photos. May I ask the name of the Albergue you stopped at after Roncevalles (with the roast chicken)? It looks like such an inviting place and I would like to try to stay there on my 1st Camino next spring. In your diaries, I thought about the statement "the Camino always provides." In your previous walk I noticed you do walk quickly with very little rest and that 100K walk was epic! But, when you hurt your knee I wondered then if the Camino was having you slow down, then #7 you began to talk about the Camino providing. Thank you for sharing your journeys. Buen Camino.

Hey there Jayne, thank you for your thoughtful comment and the deep reflections my video sparked within you. Regarding your observation about my walking pace and how my first two Caminos compare to this third one you’re watching - well, the Camino had its own way of teaching me to slow down. The knee injury: That was strike one. Strike two came shortly after, when I was hit with a severe digestive tract infection. Looking back, I realize my first two Caminos were partly fueled by ego, pushing me to walk faster, and find out how far I could take it. While that worked well then, this third time the Camino had a much sterner message for me - and believe me, I received it loud and clear. Though physically challenging, this experience actually enhanced the lessons this third Camino was offering. I had decided to record both photos and audio while walking, which turned out to be one of my better decisions. The audio commentary is raw and unfiltered, capturing the emotional peaks and valleys I experienced along the way. I think if you listen closely, you’ll get a genuine sense of this intense journey. As for the albergue you asked about - it’s called Acá y Allá Hostel in Urdániz, and I definitely recommend staying there. Actually, I’d suggest booking ahead through Pamplona. Taking care of accommodation in advance for those early days removes some organizational stress, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in those crucial first days of the Camino. I’m certain you’ll have a wonderful experience.buen camino! ☀️

Hi Garrett. maybe consider walking poles if knee does not improve by Logrono. You are wise to listen to your body. Camino walking can be a wonderful teacher if our hearts are open to its messages and you are already listening to your body. Good job and PS videos are great. Enjoying them very much. Thank you for putting in the time and effort. Buen camino.

hi danielle, thank you for the idea - i’m glad i have the stick for now, as it is both solid, and supple. i’ll see how it goes… - glad you like the videos! working on a new one. too many ideas, too little time! 😅

@@storiestellr I don't like the supple aspect of your walking stick. The end is awfully narrow compared to the top end and could easily catch in between rocks or snap if weakened from use. This is the osteopathic practitioner in me talking :)

People often forget that while the Camino provides it also can 'take'. A wise decision to get the bus. After all the Camino is an internal journey not an ego trip. The Camino is also a metaphor for life and how we take so much for granted. Your video may have saved my Camino in June--"6th time--"no bother, a piece of cake" No. Rest up in Pamplona, slow down and get walking poles. Thank you for your honesty and bravery in sharing and turning a potential negative into a positive. Buen Camino.
@storiestellr9 ай бұрын
That’s a great take - that the camino can also ‘take’. I need to ponder that… it’s true it’s not just a generous friend, but can be a fickle ally. In spite of the pain, I do think it is teaching me a valuable lesson. costly… but valuable. I walked to Puente la Reina today, slowly, and with a knee brace and pain. doing “ok”, i think.. I will be observing that knee very closely. Thank you for your feedback! 6th camino coming up… wow! 🤩

You have the opportunity to listen to your body. You can feel blisters, before they are growing painfully, and you can feel everything that has to be taken care of, long before it becomes so bad that you'd have to end a journey. Many people tend to not listen and try to force themselves by so called will power. But there is no such thing as will power. On my first camino, I had issues with joints, knee and ankle. What I did, was using supportive bandages, kept walking but very short distances and I have been suggested to use calmatel or how it was called (it has been almost 20 years ago, so I might memorized it wrongly). After 2 weeks the pain left and never came back. I never had blisters (because I also took care for my feet very well, because I knew I have just those and they'd have to make it). It did the Camino 2 more times, after 800km the first time, I did 900km the second time and 1150km the third time. I never ever had any of these issues again, never every any blisters, because my body had the chance to transform into a "walking machine" and after that it just have been fun. You will experience that yourself, if you just listen to your body and take care for it, that your physical constitution will transform during your pilgrimage. Please do me one favor and one favor only: Enjoy your pilgrimage as much as you can - no matter what!

Ouch! Wise decision to take it slower and take in the scenery. It’s also a chance for personal growth and learning. Hope you recover well for the rest of your Camino. Get some magnesium glycinate if you can get from pharmacy or iHerb (shipped to a later destination although not ideal). I took it daily on my Camino last year. Did the trick! Buen Camino!
@storiestellr9 ай бұрын
I did walk today with a knee brace and painkillers. It’s sort of worked, but I must take it easy. thanks for the magnesium glycinate tip - I actually have some with me, but I didn’t start taking it early enough 🥹 but now I’m eating it like candy 🤣

You have nothing to proof out there, I think. You‘ve walked the Camino more than once and even did an incredible spurt into Santiago at the end of your last Camino. Also, during my bike Camino, you may remember that when I had felt a bit out of it, I took a taxi for a few km a couple of times … with my bike. For some people it might be a no-go, but that does not matter. It‘s your Camino. And each Camino is a different experience. On one occasion walking I fell in the Oca mountains injuring my ankle, but continued to limp on to Sahagun, where I had planned my trip to end for that year. Subborn. Not a good idea. I had serious trouble with my ankle for months to come and still cannot / never will be able to bend it properly again. So, my advice is: take it slow and enjoy the details along the way. Gute Besserung! 😊
