Wow, I have a 2006 H3 which I Love. I purcased it brand new; this leak problem has been the only headach I've experienced since Hummer went out of business. The GM dealer has constantly charged me $300 everytime I needed the tubes cleaned out and they told me that there was no permanent fix. I followed these instructions several weeks ago because my next step would have been to trade the Hummer in for another vehicle. Well this only took me about 1 hour and we have had a lot of heavy rain here in GA, and U haven't had a drop of water come in my H3....Thanks, I'm in Love with my H3 again.

Thanks for the video, could not have done it without you. Drivers side started to leak really badly so I did that and the passenger side before it started. I actually cut some of the plastic that is under the trim piece away to make more room for my hand and better visibility. (passenger side) Worked like a charm. Thanks again.

Thanks much for this! I did the repair today. Not easy but I got it done. I cheated and used a Dremel tool to cut a playing card size piece of plastic out of the dash right side end cap. That way I could get my hand in there and get it done without as much pain from the plastic edge. I followed the design squares in the plastic and it looks like a factory shape. Anyway it is covered completely by the end trim. I figured I might be in there again sometime so I wanted the better access. It is crazy trying to coax everything around while unseen and upside down. I put personal lubricant on the grommets and fortunately they both slipped back in place pretty directly and the pipes plugged back in OK. Great relief to pour the water (not the whole cup) in the sun roof and actually see it come out onto the pavement instead of inside the car. I was really surprised that, despite only being able to get indirect force on the grommet and pipes, they still popped back into place. Pleasant surprise. Took 3 hours for me. Thanks again.

Tried this on my nephews 2009 H3. Could not find the grommet. I poured diluted drain cleaner 1:1 with water. Let it sit for 5 mins. Poured water down the drain holes it cleared it right out. Followed that by 30 psi air compressor. Blew out the lines. They work perfect now.

I just bought a 2007 H3. Took it to self carwash on 2nd day of owning then discovered the driver's side carpet soaked... I didn't even spray much onto the roof but that has to be where all the water was from :( so.... saw somewhere to use weedeater line and gently unclog. After a while I noticed I could look at head-level to the sunroof and see all the line coiled up inside/around the sunroof so I figure the hose is unhooked up there. Unknown if I did it with the weedeater line, or if this was the original source of the leak. So to fix this, I can remove the left visor and nudge the roofliner down to get to the hose and fitting? Do you think the original leak is elsewhere if the carpet (not the roof) was wet originally, or can a detached drain hose up at the sunroof allow water to flow all the way to the carpet without getting anything else wet? For now... I got a rubber plug for the drain at the sunroof and will hope the other 3 drains will handle the water until I figure out how to fix this. (Bonus was the dealer thought the aftermarket radio was broken but it was a loose wire... it's a top of the line pioneer system with the hidden kicker in back yay!)
@fansofthe12hours4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I just saw this. I have seen in the past where the tube fell out of fire wall behind dash and the water would run out at carpet. Check that.
@johnrakoczy92774 жыл бұрын
@@fansofthe12hours No worries :) UPDATE - well, my garage was taken over by all the construction materials for my bath remodel, so since the H3 was outside I used latex caulk to seal the sunroof... just to be sure. I *also* discovered the tube on the driver side was not attached behind the dash so I re-attached of course after boring the "X" out of the grommet. The other side was fine and someone had already bored out that grommet before. So the sunroof is caulked shut, and the driver side sunroof drain opening has a rubber plug in it, and should any water get past all that... the drain tubes are attached/open at the firewall in front. I pulled out the seats and raised the carpet up, and each day for 7 days I had 2 fans running to dry out the padding front-to-back. Problem solved, right? NOPE. Put everything back together, and we had our first rain in a week... the driver side carpet was SOAKED... I am pissed. I noticed the airbag nylon in the a-pillar is wet. There is no wetness anywhere on the ceiling, or evidence of any water stains. WHERE the hell is the water coming from??? I even poured water all over the roof and into every slot/groove I could find in the top left quarter of the roof and never saw anything coming inside. I love this ride, it's my first Hummer... but I'm so disappointed... any thoughts on where the water is coming from? Windshield? Outer plastic trim on a-pillar? I'm at a complete loss :( My dealership wants $100 to "troubleshoot" the issue but I don't see what they are going to do that I couldn't do myself.

Now that i know the fix if i ever sell it il rip that caulking out and clear those tubes but for now the hell with it. When it started to leak i started to laugh because i hate it when any manufacture puts a hole in any roof whatsoever. Other then that i like the truck 2008 Alpha 5.3 with over 170000 miles on it. Doesn't GM care about their customers 2006 Hummer H3 ignition problem key getting stuck in ignition when turned off why is there recall
@RandyXB9R3 жыл бұрын
There is a tiny wire under the console that surrounds your shift lever. There is a video on KZbin about this. Over time, that tiny wire which is a transmission interlock device with the ignition switch, not allowing the key to turn, will become either loose or broken. If you are in a quiet place, pop that cover loose and from the passenger seat, examine it. It's toward the back somewhat under the coin tray, between there and the shifter... So with the key in, wiggle that wire and listen for a tiny "clink" sound. Your key will pull out with ease. Naturally I left the cover open for 8 months, touching the wire when I might have the problem until one day came when it no longer worked. I drove home, pulled the cover off completely and actually soldered in a longer piece of wire, routed it properly and never had the issue again. KZbin videos can be terribly wrong (the 5 that I watched before seeing the one about the loose wire) or they can be golden. Watch a bunch of them before tinkering. Some of the other "cures" for that key issue ranged from beating the switch with a rubber hammer (honestly?) to full disassembly of the steering column/replace ignition switch/etc. All it was... simple tiny wire fix... Hope this helps!
