Hand feeding hummingbirds is the special attraction at the Amagusa Reserve north of Quito, Ecuador. The beautiful hummingbirds here in their hummingbird garden are used to people and will feed from flowers held in your hand. At this place the humans are the hummingbird feeders.

I was fortunate enough to visit that same reserve in January and studied abroad in the area for the winter. A gorgeous part of the world and an unforgettable experience! The velvet-purple coronets and toucan barbets we saw there will always hold a special place in my heart

That is awesome. I rent a small apartment from a hay farmer out in the middle of nowhere. In early spring this year I had a male and female hummingbird who would fly close and chirp at me. I bought a feeder and hung it outside. Since then they now know me. Opened window one day to get feeder and the male followed the feeder into apartment chirping. He quickly went back out and hovered at window until I put feeder back on hook. He hovered chirping and as soon as I closed window he was at the feeder.

That is awesome. I recently discovered a hummingbird that comes to the feeder I have by my front door. He lets me stand right there and watch. It would be cool to earn his trust enough to feed him by hand. These little birds are so amazing.

Amazing experience for you. You are a blessed soul. It looks like heaven. One day I will go there as well. I want to feel the hummers as well. Here in Canada I am able attract only a couple for ruby throated hummers every summer to my feeders, but look at this place just amazing. Thank you for posting this wonderful video.

When I lived in Washington I used to hold my feeder (Same one you use) in the palm of my hands and they would land on the feeder to drink. Sometimes sitting on my hand instead of sitting on the feeder. So cool

How cool. Been trying to hand feed hummingbirds but no luck. Not related to this video but just landed on a you tube about the albino (all white) hummingbirds that have been seen in Alabama. Just love these fierce tiny birds, fascinating and can watch all day. Thanks for sharing as usual.

I dont know if it is allowed to bring to the states re restrictions ETC ... I dont know if its even wrong to maybe introduce a "foreign" plant ... What a special experience.! What flower are you holding? I would love to do that at my home but it will take hours to build up the trust. I just enjoy them from my office watching the bully reign. Others do get to feed though.
