How do you push through cutting plateaus? Do I just drop my caloric intake even further? I’m comfortable walking around at 230-235lbs. I have to cut weight for jiu jitsu tournaments and I always get stuck right around 220lbs. That’s fine for no gi jiu jitsu but if I want to compete in the gi I need to drop another 7lbs or so and I don’t want to dehydrate because we don’t get time to rehydrate after weigh ins.

That makes sense. Your body is generally good at telling you what it needs, but it’s not always right. I'm just commenting here so people can see this. It helped me when baking and stuff: there is sometimes a way to make home versions that taste good or at least alright (acquired taste), and you can still make a schedule or something built in to your schedule like any time of the week to do ____. The strongest thing is making a pact with another person or for some bigger reason beyond yourself. (the best cookie I've ever had is a fresh one from my house. If you are willing to learn how they make it so good). Then just change the ingredients to protein, or a type of flour or way less sugar or a different TYPE OF SUGAR. You never know, because ingredients are hidden in our world and it's only realized when you try it, that there exist amazing substituted to commonized ingredients in most things. Ex: A magical bean that tastes good but is expensive and rare. Or a type of sweet item that spices up your baking and has 1/5th of bad effects. Or sometimes seasonings for food make a HUGE difference and add little to no calories, sugars, salts, etc

@@codesm96theres a HUGE difference between starvation, fasting or just a calorie deficit. Starvation is when your body has no body fat left to consume and starts consuming the body's muscles and organs to sustain energy levels. Fasting is the body using soley fat reservoirs after 3 days of no food intake and an empty stomach system. Calorie deficit is eating less calories than your body absorbs and uses per day so it has to break down parts of the fat reservoirs in the body to get the remaining needed energy for sustain.
@codesm96
@codesm96 25 күн бұрын
@@V-DTAJ Then why does it feel like I'm starving when I'm in a calorie deficit? Like my mind shuts down, my muscles feel weak, my bones and joints are achy, I become slower physically and barely able to support myself. I also feel faint, light-headed and my stomach is rumbling so loud the whole room can hear it. On top of that, the very thought and smell of food has me feeling even worse, like I'm about to collapse because of how much I need it? This is all from being in a slight calorie deficit, my body just cannot handle it. I'm already stick-thin so my body doesn't even have much fat reserves compared to the average person.

I'm doing calorie deficit atm, having a lot of whole foods and growing my own sprouts for protein. I'm def noticing the "hunger" but as Sean says, it's totally a natural part of the process. The key is just to accept and observe it, have more water rather than reaching for the trigger reaction coming from fear that something is "wrong". That fight /flight reaction can lead to craving dense comfort food. I'm appreciating my mind and body becoming lighter. ❤

Absolutely agreed.I want to add something. Everyone does cheat meals while cutting but i feel like most people treat them that if they only do cheat meals like once in a week(sunday is a common cheat day) ,then no matter how much they eat,it wont make a difference.Instead if you go way too overboard ,it can have too much non desirable effects on your deficiet and lead you to crave more. While having cheat meals, sometimes do consider to properly pick your cheat meals. Eg Small amount of cake contains a lot of calories and will be finished quick.But for a similar number of calories you can have something that will be more satiating but something you still like to eat,after all it is a taste meal.

100%. This mindset shift is what allows me to fast. When I commit that, “I’m going to do a 36 hour fast”, it is so easy to ignore/embrace the hunger as progress toward my goal. When I tell myself, “I’m going to eat healthy this day/week”, it’s easy to pick healthy foods, but I’ll overeat them because I’m still hungry. The mindset is everything.

Being patient and losing weight at a super slow rate worked well for me. I would get hungry but it was minimal. I ended up making new habits in the process as well. Suddenly preparing all my own meals became normal and comfortable. Grabbing fruit instead of chips as a small snack became normal for me. If you’re afforded with the benefits of a slow and gradual weight loss do it!

Fasting to me is the best way to address this issue. It not only has tons of health benefits. Especially if you do a 24 hr fast, One time a week. Trust me it wont hinder your goals. But it also builds mental toughness. You'll be hungry multiple times. But you'll learn how quickly that feeling goes away and how strong you really are. Just stay hydrated and take in a lil salt. You're solid.
