This really cements how Juan is just so much better than everyone else in melee. Only top puff, playing his worst matchup against all the top players, and destroys them anyway. Not even losing a set. He has pushed puff so far beyond what anyone thought she could do, combo game, setups, trades. Pushed his own reads so far that after just a single game he's reading DI for even more crazy setups. The most consistent rest hits ever. He is just amazing. Congrats Hungrybox, the new king of the game full of Foxes, is Puff, beautiful.

He is definitely not as active as M2k or Hbox, but he is about as active as Mango. You have to keep in mind that he needs to travel a lot. He is also acclaimed in European tournaments. Many people are not aware that he participated because not as many people watch European tournaments.

F_Crp Mir i agree! IMO puff is under rated. There's a reason only a handful full of Foxes can take his puff out. Again in my shitty opinion, puff has more answers for Fox that he does on puff. Aside from Hbox being Hbox.

The problem is Hbox won't really get worse at the matchup unless the meta evolves to a point where his matchup knowledge is outdated. Hbox has become incredibly good at the puff-fox matchup, and he's not slowing down any time soon. Another problem is that many top level players currently don't have a good alternative. What are Armada, Mang0, Mew2King, Plup, Leffen, and SFAT supposed to do? Peach, Sheik, Marth, and Falco do worse against Puff than Fox does, and Leffen and SFAT have no secondaries.

Thats the paradox, Hbox is so damn good in this match up because everybody plays fox vs him, and tbh the MU vs puff is based only in hbox (for puff side), Hbox lost a bunch of times vs foxes in the past and he grind a lot of experience that even though puff worst match up is fox, he knows how to react to every option fox have. He plays vs agressive foxes (mang0), laser camping foxes (m2k, armada), and other foxes styles (leffen, plup, sfat). Remember that Hbox is playing vs foxes more than 8 years, and he force to switch caracters to M2k Armada and Mang0. One day vs top level foxes= a day in the office for hbox

How are you supposed to recover as Fox? You have one of the best recoveries in the game yet 70% of the time I've seen the Fox try to side b, Hbox always throws out preemptive fair, and when they up b he reads that and just goes out there. Dropping down seems like instant death since Puff can just trade with fire fox, and when they try to air dodge back onto the stage he just clips them with fair. It seems like the most optimal way to deal with this is try to take Puff down with you, but how do you do that when they have 6 jumps?

That's the point. Besides that situation, fox wins the matchup with lasers, out spacing nair/bair and killing with up air/up smash. If you've been knocked off, you overextended and it's your problem, not puff's. Her only strength at all besides rest is extended edge guarding. Hbox just does it in a godly consistent way. It's crazy

Use a more viable character

You can vary the height at which you start your up+B to mix it up, as well as the angle to go for above the ledge to drop to ledge, above the stage to drop to a platform, directly to a platform, straight to the main level of the stage or directly to the ledge.If you're close enough to the stage itself, air dodge becomes an option. If you're already below the stage, though, you have less options to work with. it also gets tougher as you get further away from the stage as he can react more easily. Hbox makes it look easier than it actually is in many cases, but sometimes an edge guard is basically free, like it can be with any other character.

If they didn't give up on other characters to play against Puff, they'd ironically be better than Fox against Hbox. They make it super easy for him to prepare for matches when all they do is go Fox and never switch it up.

apocalypseap True but then mangos falco. M2ks sheik marth and armadas peach have all proven powerless in the mu. Perhaps if they tried them more often they may do better but everyone has the mindset of only fox beats puff.

M2K is really stubborn in some ways, so he's not a great example. He loves going for grabs, and Puff can duck under them, so he gets whiff punished a lot. In order to win you would have to change your playstyle to use grabs sparingly, and M2K refuses to adapt in that way. Plup has beaten Hbox with Sheik before in 3/5, so it's doable. You just have to play in a specific way. PPMD has done it before with Falco too iirc, but he put in the work for that character and matchup development and it paid off. People generally don't want to put in the work of developing a different matchup if they can avoid it, but clearly Fox is not working against Hbox as well as they hope when that's all top players use against him.

The tears he has he just shed are him coping with the following: The struggle of ignoring so much misguided negativity of what you've heard about you and your play style and your character choice combined with the focus of making sure you stick to your plan with every matchup and mid set adaptation service pack on top of practicing and leveling up real world human factors like reaction time like crazy. It must've hurt multiple times and many points but there was no time show the pain. Armada's been there before in a different way and the pain is real hence his own tears at some of his big wins. He can let it all out now because he's won it once again despite all the "odds". The reality of the situation is that there were no crazy odds statcked against him. He's a smash god amongst smash gods and this result should've been wholly expected. It was for me, plus I'd still like him more even if he lost due to his tenacity, focus and composure. Well played Armada. Congratulations Liquid Hungrybox. You and Tempo Axe will forever be my favourite smashers (can't forget PC Chris).
