How many people have lost a mom, a sister, and a brother much before their time and NOT ended up with an addiction problem? I know of many with a lot less who have been addicted.

The reason he is an addict isn't only because he lost his brother. There are a miriad of reasons addiction happens but fundamentally it usually comes down to (if we ignore child abuse which is by miles the primary reason) alienation. Being removed from a sense of purpose beyond the instant high of drugs. A family member's death can help a struggling soul along that road of alienation to full blown drug addiction in a matter of months. So the family member death, or any adversity, is part of the reason. Not an excuse. No recovering addict will ever highlight this as an excuse but they will understand it's role in the reason they ended up addicts.

Presidents should only enter into the justice system after all courts and processes have been climbed, State to Appeals to Supreme Court, and then only with reverence and when it impinges on National Security for us, the people. The power to pardon should never be used lightly or for personal gain. As a Notary Public, for instance, the faith of office is so sancta that I am not allowed to swear an oath on ANYONE I am related to by blood, marriage, or close association.

If Trump doesn't get convicted and sent to prison and Hunter does, then Biden had better pardon Hunter, or as a mother, I swear I won't vote for him. I won't even vote this year 😢 Hunter has had horrific loss from when he was a child & again losing his brother as an adult & unfortunately he turned to drugs. I don't condone it, but on some level, I do understand it. What infuriates me about this entire scenario is less that he was charged and convicted, but more that he was a private citizen who was targeted SOLELY because he is President Biden's son. Yet the right AND the Left refuse to recognize or go after true criminals who literally worked in the administration, like Jared and Ivanka. Maybe I am having an extra bad day but this just sucks all around & makes me want to move to Canada 😢

I rarely agree with a lot of Longwell's subjective analysis, but I couldn't agree more about her criticism of traditional democratic messaging on the economy. Every time democrats hedge when talking about the economy it creates doubts. You need to make people doing well confident they will continue doing well, and people doing poorly confident things will get better. And traditional Democratic messaging does the opposite, it makes people doing well scared they'll lose it, and people doing poorly hopeless.

youngstown is an old mobbed up town where wise guys are heroes and dumpster plays right into that image. it's also a town that's been beaten down for decades where the once comfortably middle class has been reduced to wage slavery. so many of the folks there are susceptible to any huckster coming down the pike making big promises about how he's gonna save them and go after all the bad people that done them wrong. i can't believe that people are that stupid, but desperation makes people do stupid things.

There is nuance here. They don't want abortions themselves but they don't want to stop anyone else. So maybe they know 1 in 4 pregnancies end in spontaneous abortions? Maybe they are aware of the high rate of rape in America? There's been 64,000 pregnancies resulting from rapes in red states since the abortion bans. Maybe they know about ectopic pregnancies and how that can end the life of the mother? You can legitimate want something for your self and respect other people's different choices. If you miss the nuances you miss the chance to build bridges and build coalitions. You can miss a connection and a conversation.
