I so agree with your opinions on the strip dies and yes I prefer ruler or stripology ruler for those.

I have an Accuquilt GO and agree about not using it for strips, but love it for hearts, circles and stars... and for some of the whole blocks (winding ways, double wedding ring). Also great for scrap busting random scraps Pros:multilayers, reliable, great for scraps, multiple fabric types COns: Cost of each die, fabric waste (between shapes) Also have a Silhouette.... it's biggest disadvantage is it only cuts a single layer. Pros: custom shapes, lower cost of items (digital) Cons: single layer, pretty much only quilting cotton (no fleece, felt, minky, wool), design time

I am also wanting a digital system... I am leaning towards brother cut and scan....but I like some of the other options on the options on the other machines too... Pricing is factor too... I guess I am just on the fence too. Looking forward to seeing what you choose. Love your onions .

Love all your tips and tricks, and your openness to new ones. Can I add one of my own. If I don’t have enough of a patterned or directional fabric I mark the repeat line on one piece, press an allowance for seaming underneath on that line lightly use basting glue to hold the matched pieces , dry the glue quickly by iron, pull the pieces flat on the wrong side and seam down the pressed seam line. Perfect matches every time, completed very quickly and no fiddling around trying to get perfect matches with pin placements.

When you were talking about cutting systems, you seemed to be much more excited about the Brother system. Just a thought. I won't get one because I like handmade items. I understand that some people may need them, or want to do a specialty block, I just hate to see new quilters running straight for the shortcuts. I say, learn the skill set first. But I'm old and that's just my opinion.

I love Deb Tucker's approach to making this block. I don't have her ruler, though, as I use my CG Diamond dimensions ruler and my Antler Designs ruler to trim the square units, but I use her construction method which is brilliant. Many configurations of this star possible by using color choices/placement. I just gifted a Hunter's Star quilt to my best friend of 44 years. Just love this quilt block.

Brother Scan and cut. By far the most versatile and most options. There is a quilter's version of the B sc that actually has precreated blocks... though it's the most expensive and not necessary if you don't want those existing designs, just buy the lesser expensive one down. I have had Cricut and Cameo, not great for what you pay.

I had an Accu Quilt a few years back. I eventually got rid of it because of storage, and cost of the die cuts. I just use a ruler and matt. Lovely Hunter's Star Quilt. I like how you put the star points going into the border instead of cutting them off. Looks great!

Hunter's Star is one of my favorite patterns. I have made one from the Missouri Star pattern with hst's, but I haven't made one with trapezoids yet. I'll have to check out that tool.

It will give you a more balance block using true diamonds v. hsts.

What is the Tree that you have behind you? Very cute, I love it. I would hang it on my front door!

The tree is a pattern by Keith Woods, a very talented quilter. He is on Instagram and Facebook.
