What I always liked about the hunters is that they break the stereotype in the world of darkness that humans are a mere oblivious cattle that the supernaturals manipulate, terrify and use as a source of new recruits and food at their pleasure. That not all of us are without agency. A hunter that is determined and prepared can make even a powerful vampire have a very real fear for his unlife.

I'd love to have seen some post-apocalyptic material where the Hunters got to shepherd humanity through the age of the demon lord. It's a shame the Time of Judgement was all too sudden, and that the Hunters got just a chapter in a book shared with some of the other game lines.

One thing I noticed about the Creeds is that they seem to be divided by the three virtues within their Primary virtues. For example: Zeal: Avengers (Zeal), Defenders (Mercy), Judge (Vision) / Mercy: Martyr (Zeal), Innocent (Vision), Redeemer (Mercy) / Vision: Visionary (Vision), Wayward (Zeal), Hermit (Mercy).

it aligns with karmatic alignment. so for example "chaotic evil" would be a wayward. "lawful good," is judge.

I love hunter the reckoning! It was my introduction to world of darkness with the PS2 game HTR: Wayward. It was my favourite coop game to play with my friends. It'd be so dope if you would do more videos on the series

I had the same experience, but at the time I had no idea that the game was based off an entire tabletop game. I only found out years later when I first played Bloodlines and then started my deep dive into the World of Darkness. Good times. Simpler times. :’)

I love Hunter: The Reckoning! It's a Game that allows a lot of creation of lore. For example, using vague elements such as The Connell Group allows for ultra-equipped Hunters, while the Agnus Dei creates Holy Hunters (in zeal, not in faith). Indeed, it is a fascinating playground.

The Imbued simply die from blood loss if a vampire tries to Embrace them.

"Once a human is Imbued, they cannot become another type of monster at all. Any template on your character sheet other than "Imbued" is disallowed - not only can a Hunter never be Embraced as a vampire, they can't even become ghouls or blood-bonded."

@@Vikstorm I think I remember seeing that they can become blood bonded, though they can't be turned into Ghouls. Of course this is rather frustrating to the vampire as the blood bond "turns off" when they activate Second Sight and its attendant protection from supernatural control, and rather frustrating for the Imbued as it turns back on when they turn the Sight off. This means a hunter can be successfully blood bonded, but still muster the ability to resist or kill their "master". Many probably do not remain bonded long as the vampire will probably die unless it is more powerful than most.

@@Giles29 Second Sight is pretty op. In the supplement book dealing with demons it told a story of a hunter who was possessed and whenever he turned on second sight it completely cut the demon off.

I was kinda hoping you would share the name of the song but it's ok if it's a personal secret or something. Anyway, since you ended this video on the subject of inhuman power, after recently reading (and watching) a LOT of WoD lore, I'm left with a small curiosity: Demons or Yama Kings? Who's stronger? Subjective, I know, but my guess would be the latter. I also know it's a little off-topic but I didn't think it warranted another comment elsewhere.

Depends on which 'demons' we're talking about. Yama Kings are going to run roughshod over most Wyrmish critters that aren't Maeljin Incarna. As for fallen, an Earthbound is kind of a counterpart to a Yama King.

Can you recommend me what World of Darkness TTRPG would be optimal to start with? If there is a game that unifies most White Wolf games it would be great. Also, i have never played TTRPG's, can game master also play? Im very interested to plsy but it's so much different from video games that the lesp to TT games seems too much of a leap but I am willing to try. Will 4 people (GM included) be enough? Vampire is the easiest to get into. A DM/GM/ST can play along with the party, kind of (DMPCs) but it's not advised as the ST can easily push the players into the background. 4 players is plenty.

As someone who played the tabletop game and loved it, Hunters can have more than one creed but you only have so many points to spend, make sense? You can have some cool level 1 abilities or max something out and get the cool level 6 edges.

It's funny - when "Hunter: The Reckoning" came out, my ST bought it day one and we were playing it that night. I read through it for Character Creation and thought "This... this SUCKS. It's all wishy-washy, I'm Confused And I Don't Want To Be!" with a single Creed that kinda sorta made sense (the Avengers), so I said "Can I play someone who just wants to kill all Monsters? Like one day there was a lightning bolt from God and the girl he was hitting on turned into a Vampire, and her friends were all Vampires, and the club was full of Vampires, and when I ran out to get away from the Vampires I ran into a park that had a pack of stray dogs that I could see were Werewolves, and when I got to work in the morning I found out that my Boss's Boss was a suit-wearing Witch, and I said "Fuck it, this world is full of MONSTERS - time for a Cleansing Fire!" and he went "Sure, okay." I mean, the game was called HUNTER - and there were no Hunters! So yeah, my first instinct for playing a Hunter was to play a Wayward, and because there was no Wayward Creed at publication (at least not in the main book - I don't remember if the Storytellers Companion came out at the same time or if it had the Lost Creeds in it) the game didn't feel right to me. By the time Waywards came out, we had moved on from Hunter to something else entirely.

@@ryanwolf2229 They're the "immortals" referenced in the video, the ones cursed by God to become lower demons after they defeated the higher demons and lost their way, though they aren't all necessarily those "immortals" who were humans imbued with divine power who became corrupted, as new ones occasionally are born. They absorb chi or life force to maintain their vitality, rather than drinking blood like Cainites. All of their powers and sorceries are chi-based rather than blood, and they are spirit beings in so much that they can build a body from scratch after their's is destroyed. Also means they're inherently harder to kill, ages being equal most Kuei-jin will body their Cainite counterparts, though they can't replicate with blood like a virus so they're numbers are more static which precludes them from expanding far outside of Asia but also means it ain't worth invading them.

It would be nice if they created abilities to make Paragon-like Hunters. The current HTR v5 game seems to make powerless characters. I started looking at Hunters Hunted and psst versions of the game to make house rules and bring back some advantages like Faith and Poisonius Blood to the new game.

True Faith and Numina (anti-psychic) can act as dampeners on supernatural powers. But the collective weight of human disbelief has some curious effects. To the Fae, it is lethal Banality, which makes sense because they are extra dimensional beings to begin with. But mages' powers have weakened as well, and the Technocrats more sci-fi toys don't work except in the Umbra. Hunters/Imbued may have a free pass from god/gods to do what they do, except that their brains start to melt if they get too powerful.
