I remember when I was reading this manga episode in the university PCs and I began to cry after watching Gon's panel. Everybody watching me in the workstation and I cannot stop crying and then... around 20 years later, I still cry with this scene in every single reaction I watch. The king tried tasting a chimera ant and the result was awful for him, so it's logical that he'd want to skip straight to the rare humans which are the only thing he craves and knows he will like. That's why he didn't even bother to try out a chimera ant nen user. He knows the flavor of rare humans and how much better it was to that of a chimera ant, so he skipped straight to that without even considering trying out another chimera ant.

Yeah, it's not like Knuckle and Shoot are nobodies. They're the rising stars of the hunter association and they are being groomed by Netero to take over the top positions when they grow up. Even though they're still young (early 20s), they're probably as strong as Hisoka and Illumi. Think of them as a slightly older version of Gon and Killua who got more time and experience.

We were shown that even low class ants were capable of identify ''rare humans'' (or in other words, capable of seeing aura), so Pitou was being very condescending when she assumes that the King doesn't know how to do that

I think not showing Gon's inner thoughts it's a narrative decision by Togashi. In the begginig of hxh the audience tends to think that Killua is the mysterious character, but in reality it's Gon, and that's deliberate by the author end so well done that some people just end up not understanding Gon or what happened to him

​@@marinapilarDefinitely 99% of anime viewers has no understanding of Gon. In the manga ​Gon is fleshed out from all the first chapters that was skipped in the anime. The anime filtered out at least 50% of characters studies, behaviors and thought processes. I read the manga 15 times before watching the anime so for me the anime enhances the crucial moments, but the manga still carry all the weights of depths, emotions and true connections to the characters. Gon is deep, profound and complex. I was attached to him in every single frames, and his emotions transpires and cut straight to my heart. Which makes it so painful later on when he's going through suffering. ❤

This Queen was a mutant chimera ant, that's why she was so big and could eat big animals. And I think your right, had the other ants spread and formed new kingdoms they prolly would be even stronger. But it didn't happen, the few ones that split up and tried to form new kingdoms got detained by the hunters and the Troupe.

Not in the anime but in the manga is said that the queen came from the dark continent, probably a normal quimera ant ate a dead human and gave born to the queen we now in the anime, she later get shore away into the ocean and arrived at Ngl... all the good soldiers we see in the anime can't reproduce as the queen could so no further king would be born after her death
