In the remote native village of Shageluk Alaska, moose is what's for dinner. Here, grocery stores don't exist, and the closest thing you'll find to an Uber is Chevy Roach's transport service. Some of you might recognize him from the NatGeo series Life Below Zero. This is my first time visiting Alaska and I'll be spending 10 days or so with Chevy, seeing how he and his family live in the Alaskan bush. After dropping off my friends Eric and Vance at a camp where they'll be hunting moose with their Traditional bow's, Chevy, his cousin Rodger, and I head out to look for a moose for Chevy's in-laws. This is true subsistence hunting.

I just stumbled onto this tonight. I've lived in Alaska for 50 years now. This is how we hunted years ago. A lot has changed since then. Back in the day we hunted for meat, not trophies and bragging rights. As I watched this, I could smell the river, the trees in the fall and the smell of fresh moose as you skinned it. This is what Alaska is all about. Great video, thanks for something real !

Was finally able to buy one of his books The bowers traditional guide was an amazing read full of information that is perfect for beginners like myself It was educational, full of usefull tips as well as in depth guidance on each step of making bows and arrows It's a very good price for the amount in it and would highly recommend it to others This guy is something different and his content is a god send

I lived in different places in rural Alaska for 18 years. I brought that mindset here to Texas: I'm not a squirrel; I don't eat horns. I hunt for meat. A lot of people go for the big racks. I could care less!

Thanks for sharing Clay. Don't want to be critical and a man has to do what you gotta do - but I sure do miss your clips taking game with your self-bow. They are something real special and I rush to the computer when I see a new one up. Unfortunately, videos of folks blasting game with a thunder-stick just don't have the same appeal. Here's hoping for the future.

I liked everything about this video, EXCEPT the fish ice cream that just about made me throw up😂 But really, modern hunters need to watch these kinds of videos and remember what it's all about. Guys' wearing denim jeans not designer camo and the best part is how they could've cared less about the horns. Theres a true sense of fulfillment watching this, can't wait for elk season so I can hopefully fill my freezer and be grateful as well.

This was awesome to see. Thank you Clay and thanks to your hosts for letting us tag along. One question for people who know guns. What was the rifle used to kill the mosse and what cartridge/bullet (what ever the correct english term is) does it uses? As a person who only shoot Zastava M-70 which is Serbian copy of AK-47 in the military I would like to know what it takes to effectively kill an animal of that size. Thanks in advance.
