As an INVADER and an American Sniper, i've found the matchmaking to be extremely terrible. The player count is around 1.2K now compared to when it first came out, as much as i love this game, it's getting boring real fast, though concept is absolutely amazing and addictive, i find i can only play a few rounds before i'm bored. I don't agree with adding Voice comms or any type of communication with the enemy as it will usually result in toxicity as do most competitive games. Also, with regards to the "Ghillie Suit" everyone thinks that you're undetectable or able to remain hidden, unless you're in a densely green foliage area, you will stick out like a sore thumb.

As a fellow sniper hunter, I love seeing the evolution of these clips, haha. That being said, there's a couple techs that I KNOW that'll make you have a lot of fun, as snipers tend to forget super easily. The sniper decoys are so stupidly fun to use in this game, the ones that fake the sniper glint with some sticks, helmets and bottles, as it fools players a lot in long distances. That is one thing, but the best thing about this game is that if you get incapacitated, you can still shoot back from the downed position. I have caught so many snipers off guard as they tried to finish me off in close quarters, not realizing that SURPRISE! I can still shoot back! Not like you need any of these, your clips are plenty fun already, but just something to keep in mind. They definitely make a sniper feel really cool.

I guess most people in the comments are about a year late to the party…this mode has always been fun. When both consoles gave Sniper Elite 5 as member level free games, the campaign got played a lot. Default game setting is Axis Invasion on. This means lots of easy dumb kills to get you to 100 kills. In theory. Once you’ve played all the campaign levels, unlocked all the guns it becomes quite easy. You can literally hide among the AI as the Jager. You can walk as them. Act like one…if they don’t know the patrol path algorithm you might as well be a bot! Big problem with newbies to the game is the AI can kill them faster than you. So there is a downside. Want a real challenge. Hunt them without a scope. Use the Pedersen rifle. Buy the DLC. Use the Winchester…it has a lot of bullet drop but hits like a tank. Or hunt parties of people. Plenty of two player level 40 people in a co-op lobby. Most are actually sporting fun. Some are just too easy. Dealing with sniper Jager’s invading you…oh, that’s complete trolling. That’s almost too easy. The human Karl or equivalent avatar can see through walls on every difficulty except the highest which is authentic. The Jager gets diddly squat except tagging the bots. So TAG them and use them. People don’t stealth thus game. They pile up Nazis for fun. You can actually get more bots into the campaign if you know what and when to trigger stuff. Take Tomo’s first kill here on video - he isn’t even ranging his rifle and killed the player. Ranged at 50m, player was about 100-150m away. That won’t work at higher difficulties. So range your rifle if you want to quickly kill people. Safe range is always 100m. Then you go up or down. Easy difficulty the game does it for you so don’t bother but do LEARN HOW TO. Tips - play with someone a buddy, and let someone hunt you. Tomo could easily give anyone here his Invasion code or alternatively hand it out and you get endless chances to butcher each other. - unlock the guns. Know how to make them work for you. Sure the Kar98 is a good base game rifle but it depends on how you modify it. Done correctly it will kill for most upper body shots in one hit. But it’s not the best rifle. That’s subjective to map and your location in the map. - there is a trade off with aim time and mobility. Some rifles are mobility based and others can best be used at range. - some rifles do not become available as the sniper Jager. Allied rifles do not. All DLC guns can be used as the Jager. - test the guns in single player first, pretty obvious but some suck in Axis Invasion - best secondary is…shotguns. DLC. They are so OP it’s shocking. - machine gun secondaries all can lag…STG and MP44 are the best. - there is zero point in using a silencer if you’re the Sniper Jager. Zero point. Don’t equip them. - handguns are almost pointless unless you’re trolling really dumb/bad players - so old mate used a Panzerfaust on you. I’d use the artillery strike first if I could. Know where they are. Knowing roughly where the player (Karl is) infers a lot - map awareness. Know the map - you spawn in relatively close to the human Karl. Knowing the map literally gives you an advantage because the BOTs positions are always the same. If all the BOTs are dead…maybe just leave as Karl has a huge advantage unless he is literally below level 40 (means they are new to the game). The game can allow 3-4 separate axis invaders depending on map progression and objectives…that’s the max I have seen. - if you spawn in the last two missions bloody leave if you don’t know the map…you’ll get wrecked. As the Sniper Jager just tag, tag and tag your AI pals. The moment they die you know where Karl is. Hard difficulty the game won’t tell you Karl’s location in red unless an alarm goes off. Authentic the tagging works for the Sniper Jager but not Karl. Get the DLC. Get the shotguns. And if you are Karl…booby trap everything. Choke points, strategic positions…use those dead AI bodies. Karl is shredded to the brick shit house…use everything as him to win. You have a huge advantage. Unless you’re an idiot and don’t silence your guns and that means everyone can find you. Which is only a trap if they are not using a scoped rifle. Like me at times. I have seen every strategy this mode has. People fall for the most articulate traps easily. Knowing when to rush is a skill. Use grenades with the sticky setting. Don’t waste your grenade/mine as the Jager. Karl has almost infinite resources, you get sweet fuck all. Do not sit next to explosives. Dying to them is embarrassing. You get a few bullets. Karl has hundreds. Don’t take pot shots. Despite this video, most games are slow. Strategic but slow. Be patient. As for the Jager gillie suit…you use to be able to sit down and get 20 kills in 2 hours. Easy. It’s not actually hard for a moderate player to get to. But…Karl and Monika get it as DLC outfits as well. Don’t sit there aiming down scope either. There are only 2 scopes that literally do not give you away…so don’t do it. Mark. Binoculars. Play smooth. Don’t rush. Small but sharp precise movements. Know where the objectives are and figure out “Karl has done this…he must be going here or there.” The game use to bloody well broadcast if you were close enough, Karl’s cut scene dialogue giving him away positionally…people are predictable. Anticipate and intercept. Use your binoculars as they have no glare unlike scopes level 3 zoom and above! Get in cover. You can zoom in with binoculars in cover. When running about this game is 3rd person. Use the camera to pan around. It shows you an exceptional amount. Karl can instantly use the phone to find you when you invade. Let him. Idiots literally tell me where they are instantly. You can see your AI right? Well, the map shows the phone locations. Been tagging.? Then guess where Karl is? Map knowledge literally tells you where to go to shoot Karl. The angles you’ve got are enormous. Just tag him with your binoculars. There is a slight lag delay with him being ‘alerted’ switch to your rifle (the one you ranged in) and he’s dead. As Karl. Use the bodies. Rig them with explosives. Repeat. Schu mines are tricky. Use two. Difficulties below hard mean a Jager will almost always survive a mine. Use two. Place one on a body and then position another body or two and set a chain reaction. If you do it right, the Jager is dead sometimes within seconds of spawning. That’s funny when it happens. What is the ideal range to kill someone? Depends on the map and if they rush you? Probably 100 metres. Maybe up to 200. I don’t see many people even attempting to hit people over that (except me and maybe a tiny few others). Again, scope type impacts this. Like I said, the best gun is the Winchester rifle and then a shotgun. The Mosin Nagant is also nice. Nothing sucks more than hitting and downing a player, they survive and then get you. So find what works for you. Oh right. The modded Karl’s. Ages back you’d kill Karl, the slow motion camera would begin showing the bullet penetration, but he’d live. Those are modded PC players. You did hit them. They cannot die. Leave immediately. Or stick them with a grenade or melee them from behind. Otherwise they live. And get infinite chances to kill you. I haven’t seen any in a very long time, but they exist. It’s very hard to melee most people from behind. Oh, best kills ever. Dropping down from above onto someone. I’ve done it several times. If a players is below you you get a drop and instant kill button option. It’s rare to happen, but I did it running loops with someone on the first mission once. Ps; do not hide in the grass near the extract on mission one waiting to ambush Karl like someone did to me today. I can spot you across the map and hit you…

Some tips, using binos wont give you the 'scope glint' so you can spot them without giving away your pos. Similarly, using ironsights give you no scope glint, and can allow you to completely blind side Player snipers.

This game has been sitting in my Steam library for almost a year and I am JUST now getting around to playing the campaign. I'm trying to get all of the experience I can before jumping into this mode but it looks FUN AS HELL. I hope there's still enough people playing it. What a unique approach to PvP. I've played the other Sniper Elites before this and thought that the bullet time mechanic would eventually get stale and they would stop selling games but then they come out with this mode? This was a stroke of genius. Nailed it.

really enjoyed this game as well, the Invasion mode is so unique. I wish more games would come up with something like this. My Invaders however never enjoyed their experience - I have a tendency to mine every single corpse of the AI because it's a very effective strategy to clear out the level; and since these corpses usually lay in places where you might tend to walk over them accidentally... It looked like they nerfed the mines to not be a oneshot on full hp anymore, lets just say I think that's a good decision balancing wise^^

Depends on the difficulty. A direct mine will kill on hard or authentic. Most down though on normal and below difficulty. Use two bodies. Close enough that the explosion from one triggers the other. Instant kill. Works like a charm.

I think one of my favorite moments in this game was when an axis sniper invaded my friend and I while we were just starting the third mission (the one with the big castle and the long mine infested beach between that and the spawn) and it was basically just a tense as hell sniper duel between me and my friend pushing up and trying to suppress the Jager so we could push into the main area. We had like 10+ rematches and it was glorious.

If your game doesn't have the option of "Quickplay" and being able to be connected right away, it isn't going to make the money studios want. It's one of the base reasons why Call of Duty's quickplay always beat out Battlefield's Server Browser, and the essence goes through literally all games. Yes, I could find someone else to play with. First I have to find someone, by either randomly playing until I click with someone, or I go out of my way to meet people. The majority of the gaming population doesn't do that. Hunt Showdown is NOT 2v2 PvPvE it's a 12 Player Extraction Shooter. So you don't have any argument there when you are comparing it to a 2v2 Hunter Mode. We have done 2v2 and 3v3 games for a long time. They don't make money, and the population always dies quickly as people quit. It's why CoD throws it in as a side mode to multi-player every once in a while since the first MW3 Face Off Maps. The exact same behaviour happened, as soon as one team was winning people quit. You don't have the points you think you do.

Every now and then a game company will take a risk and introduce novel gameplay for multiplayer and its so refreshing. A long time ago I played Assasins Creed Brotherhood multiplayer and it hooked me. It was completely fresh compared to anything else I had ever played and it was a blast, but barely anyone was on the servers so you'd wait 20 minutes for a match. Basically, you'd spawn in a small map, maybe with 4 or 5 players. Each player has a character model, and all of the NPCs have identical character models to the players. You'd get a target and someone would also have you as a target. Your entire game was to kill the player that looked like your target, without giving yourself away as not an NPC to the player targeting you. So many different mindgames could be played to find and kill your target while getting your pursuers on the wrong track. It was so much fun and I never saw anything like it after I stopped playing (because the servers were dying at the time). I wish more game devs took risks with multiplayer because its so fun to play. This game's multiplayer is an example of that kind of risk and the kind of gameplay it can offer. Refreshing and rewarding. Compared to the blink and you die FPS clones that are everywhere.

seems a bit unfair that the invader get respawns, when they already have the advantage over the guy doing the mission

The Invader can only respawn if the host accepts or requests a rematch. If the host chooses to abandon the Invasion then they continue solo vs AI and the Invading player is sent back to the menu.

I found, as a Sniper Elite vet, that a lot of people just don't understand the game. If you're patient you'll win most invasions as the invader (harder as the invadee because you have shit to do). Might be less so now with it being mostly sweats.
