Exactly. The K2 is really good for spotting game, but due to the reduced resolution, isn't as good for making identifications. That is where a better digital night vision or thermal scope on a rifle will help with determining with certainly what is being seen. The S3 is turning out to be a nifty optic that I really like. I would gladly have this in my rotation as a backup thermal or thermal to put on a guest rifle. It is easy to use and the user interface if very good. The menu pops up on screen if you press the menu button and that will quickly help a newbie find what is needed. Plus, it is a really good price for what it does. I like it a lot.

That K2 really does the job for scouting an area and the S3 looks like it would be a very good scope for night hunting also , thanks for sharing this info .

Picked up the K2 primarily to find downed deer that don't leave much of a blood trail. I am sure I will be using it for lots of other things but I suspect for tracking it will work great.
@CarpeSus3 ай бұрын
@jeffhays1968 For finding downed game, it will be useful. It won't really help with blood trails, however, not that you said it would, but so folks don't get the wrong idea

@@CarpeSus You can walk right by a dead deer when tracking. Be hard to walk by a big orange blob of a heat signature! I hope I never need it but it's gonna be a fun tool I suspect.

How are you determining the distance?
@CarpeSusАй бұрын
I use an app on my phone (when you see GPS displayed). So that is done after the shot. I base the distance on landmarks (when distinct) that I can correlate with Google Maps/Earth in order to get the distance.

With the Pocket K2, when your scanning what the range at when you can first tell it’s a coyote?
@CarpeSus9 ай бұрын
Sorry, Damian, I meant to answer this sooner. I remember reading this and formulating an answer, but never actually replied. Conditions are going to vary, but I can see coyotes at 400 yards from an elevated position (hillside overlooking valley) and see critters I 'know' to be coyotes based on how they are moving, though the image is really just a few dots. Off the top of my head, I would guess that 150-200 yards or closer to actually tell that one is a canid based on physically discernible features at the ground (not elevated). I will see if I can get some imagery and work out some distances for you.

When the humidity is high, is WH better for you?
@CarpeSus11 ай бұрын
This is sort of tail wagging the dog, but I thought WH went better with the red reticle. I would go with another color BH, for example. I wasn't giving that much thought. However in going through the palettes, I did not notice WH being superior to BH. Did you think it was?
@103m95g11 ай бұрын
@@CarpeSus for me, when the humidity is high and the grass and everything else is covered in dew, WH seems to give the best definition. this is using the Fusion thermal 55xr
@CarpeSus11 ай бұрын
@103m95g That isn't uncommon and I think it is just from how the firmware is set. Rix scopes have the intensity adjusted a little higher.

what is the problem of farmers with armadillos ?
@CarpeSus11 ай бұрын
It isn't just farmers and ranchers, but homeowners as well. These are burrowing creatures that make holes in the fields. Ranchers will claim that the holes are hazards for horses and cattle. I know of no such instances of said animals breaking their legs in armadillo holes, but I know I have fallen into them (along with badger burrows and a coyote burrow) in the middle of the night and so I know they are a hazard. Around structures and such, they can undermine fences and the foundation/supports/piers of a pier and beam home and hence cause structural problems. Armadillos will sometimes burrow into protected enclosures and hence leave an opening for other animals to follow, which can be a problem if they are getting into your chicken coup, for example. I don't shoot them anywhere else but this one property.
