Not trying to be rude.. but did you buy the scope or are these 'paid advertisements'? I can't seem to find many 'non youtuber' reviews on these.
@CarpeSus23 сағат бұрын
Not rude, but not correct either, although I understand your query. You want to know if I am a paid shill or huckster for DNT Optics which is a very fair query. You missed the 3rd option. I had the scope on loan from DNT Optics. It has since been returned as my test period is over. In fact, I ran late. However, by my understanding of KZbin, I have to include that "paid advertisement" label in the video because I got free use of the product in exchange for talking about it. I received ZERO $ and in fact, they didn't even cover return shipping. You can check out my full review here... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gISxg2RqnpeMoNU Companies send products like this out for review for several reasons. One is for the advertising aspect. For guys like me, I like to talk about what I am using whether it is a loan, exchange, or I bought it, especially if what I am using is doing a good job for me. Another reason, is that they want feedback on the product by somebody they feel they can trust to do a reasonable job evaluating it. Third, some companies will follow the comments to figure out better what sort of responses the product is generating and what people's opinions are of the product based on what is commented. So they get unsolicited public surveys from a relevant target audience. For me, I just get to play with new gear. I have received no $ or product in return for doing my review. So what do I get out of it other than playing with new gear? I may get some new subscribers to my channel and you may say, "Ah, so that is where you make your money!" Well, not really. Very rarely do I get to monetize a video as I do like to show the optics on the rifle and according to KZbin, that is a modification of the rifle and as such, they will not monetize the video. I have over 900 hunting related videos. My income from KZbin right now shows I have made a whopping $14.90 in the last 30 days. So I am not getting rich from KZbin, either. Now, I am doing some work for Bering Optics. They have been sending me the occasional scope to use and I show that I am using it and what it can do in the field. The Bering gear isn't mine either and will be returned, but I will get to play with it for a while. DNT Optics did send these out to a lot of "KZbinrs" from what I can see as well. I don't know what deals they did or didn't make. Does this satisfy your query? Do you have any particular questions you would like to ask about the scope that maybe I can answer base on my use of it in the field?

I've had mine about four days. I'm certainly impressed. The QD mount would be a plus since I can't decide WHICH rifle to mount it on. I have built a ballistic "catalog " for three calibers and two projectile sizes that I will actually use. I "cheated" on the one shot zero with a laser bore sighter at 50 yards and bench rest (vise)..next step is live fire at the range.

Yes and no. I stopped when the bugs got so bad over the warm months that it just got nasty, especially in fields with a lot of cattle. Plus, youtube rules changed and now virtually none of my videos earn $, so doing a separate video is a lot of extra work. I may go back to incorporating the necropsies in the regular videos when I have new Grendel ammo, but for another 6 weeks, I have to baby my left hand (surgery, bone work). So long about mid December, maybe I can restart.

@CarpeSus3 күн бұрын
So I try to keep my shooting inside 200 yards (183 meters) which means no elevation correction for chest shots, at least on stationary hogs. Figuring out the lead on running hogs is by experience, but it difficult given that the hogs don't run at uniform speeds and aren't always the same distance away from me. Plus, they don't always run in straight lines. I have worked out the math, afterwards, to figure out why I missed on numerous occasions, taking into account the ballistics of the given projectile from my gun to determine how long it would take to reach the hog (usually something like 0.08 to 0.14 seconds) and then estimated how far the hog traveled from the time of my shot in the amount of time it took my bullet to arrive at the hog's distance. That will give me the speed of the hog. AND THEN I can figure out of I had too much or too little lead on the hog to make a hit, usually too little lead. However, there is another problem is that hogs often have a certain amount of vertical elevation change as they run - they move up and down as they run. It is virtually impossible to know if the hog will be moving upwards when the bullet arrives, or downwards. So I have had shots go too low on a hog as I shot when he was at his low point, but the bullet arrived when he was at his high point and vice versa. All of these can be analyzed after the fact in a very scientific manner, but in the field and real time, there is a bit of trial and error and experience that goes into estimating where to aim and when to pull the trigger on a moving hog.

I suspect the bullet is of hard construction and 223 offering limited frontal surface combined with sub 2k impact velocity into a tensed up body resulted in no opening of the bullet. Just my thoughts , I will say Im surprised how little it opened given it has a black tip to assist with opening

How far do you think you could ID a coyote with the k3? Thinking about getting one and theirs not much info on them (that I can find)
@CarpeSus4 күн бұрын
Well, that is a bit of a sticky question. There is spotting, recognition, and identification. Spotting could be as little as one pixel lighting up to indicate that there is a heat source. Recognition would mean basically that you see an animal in the field that you think is a coyote based on general overall shape, movement pattern/gate, etc.,. Identification would mean that you see diagnostic anatomical traits to actually identify it as a coyote (versus a similar canid such as a fox or domestic dog (some of which are coyote-like in appearance. I would argue that most thermal hunters don't actually identify the coyotes they shoot so much as recognize them and rationaize that they are seeing a coyote based on the circumstances of the situation. I know of a couple of situations where I have held off shooting a "coyote" in a field because I just could not be certain it was not a domestic dog (in particular, one of the landowner's dogs). I would GUESS the K3 would be decent for this somewhere between 300 and 400 yards in good conditions. From an elevated position (such as a hillside overlooking a valley) that distance may be extended. If the decision to shoot is going to be based on what you see in the K3, I would say <200 yards. If you are watching a couple of blobs chasing a deer or calf at 500 yards, you might reasonably assume they are coyotes and attempt to close the distance for a more positive identification. The farther away, the less detail and the greater the chances that the animal may not be what you think it is.
