What if I want to mill an outside frame (profile), without the cutter starting in the middle of one of the sides? The best way to mill around , say a square or rectangular profile, it to start the cutter “off” a corner. This way the cut starts from a point clear of the block so that the first cut is along the length on one side, thus eliminating the start/stop mark of the cutter. I would machine around the profile producing a chamfer or radius at each corner. The last corner, I would program the chamfer or radius 0.1mm larger and machine around that corner ending up with the tool standing off the profile by 0.1mm, finishing off with the cutter moving along this clearance line until taking the cutter clear. This avoids the start/stop blend line and leaves all sides of the part clean from marks. My question is how to do this in the winmax control? The example where the cutter starts in the middle of one side can be viewed as a rough machine cycle, but in my opinion it’s not the best way to machine around a profile. I would rough and finish as I described. If that means more lines of program then so be it. Be interested to hear comments.

Correct, you would program that in lines and arcs not as a frame. That way you can start wherever you like (off the part in your example) and you would program the toolpath however you would need.

Hello I have a question about the pockets, although even if I chose climb milling in my program settings, when I set my pocket inward with an island in the middle, the whole rough is in conventional milling and only the island is in climb milling, a real carnage for my tools. Any tips outside Adaptive Path? Sorry for the possible inaccurate translation my english skills aren't that advanced.

You could program the pocket using lines & arcs (not frames or circles). That way the roughing passes should follow the direction (climb/conventional) that you programmed the toolpath.

@@hurcousa I maybe found a way to use your pocket path, a bit faster than using lines & arc for the rough path since their is a huge path to program that way, i'll instead program the island as lign&arc instead of circle and setup the direction to conventionnal that way both pocket and island gonna be reversed to climb milling, i just really hope the standard inward or outward pocket path works in the future accordingly to the program milling settings (conventionnal/climb), i'll aswell give a try to your adaptive path (trochoidal) which sounds great for tools lifetime. Thanks for the fast answer by the way :)

Can you not set the program so that after you have cut around the profile and across the top face those edges now become your X Y Z zero positions. I don't want to be working from 0.25 in from these features all the time?
@hurcousa2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, to answer your question no, you would need to make that adjustment to your work offset (Part Setup) prior to machining - meaning that you would move the zero point in .25” in both the X and Y from the corner of the material. Basically doing the same thing, but the control wouldn’t be able to do it automatically.

can I use this software for a 1999 Hawk 40 with ultamax?

Hi thanks for reaching out, unfortunately that age of machine/control wouldn't be able to run the WinMax software
