I love his energy and he came up with some awesome melodies over the years (Clansman being the best of them), which were the fundaments for the vocal melodies. But man, his fast playing is often like mashing without focusing on vibratos or adequate bending to get to a certain note. Apart from that he's a nice chap and definitely has saved IM in some way when Adrian left. But Adrian's playing is on a different level of emotion and technique, so is Dave's. I like his slow solos but the fast ones are usually bad in articulation - apart from Brave New World in RIR, though it was edited a little.

The crowd on this DVD are insanely good! However, I personally think the crowd on the En Vivo DVD have some moments that blow this away. It'll be no shock to you that it's also filmed in South America (those fuckers are crazy down there!). I find the majority of the live stuff absolutely trumps the studio stuff, but the post reunion albums are pretty much all recorded as if the band were playing it live, then solos/dubs are added on top! I've really been looking forward to your reaction to Sign of the Cross, mainly because of how different it is to the studio version. I'm hoping you'll understand the hype for the song after listening to the live version. Honestly, I think most people are thinking of the live version when they hype it up anyway! Keep it up Hurm, great as always!

Bruce Dickinson was hired in 1981 because Iron Maiden knew he was a good singer, but he needed improvement for sure... he was the singer of another British metal band Samson, who had done shows w/ Iron Maiden in the club days, but they apparently had a falling out. Dickinson saw Maiden w/ Paul Di'Anno on vocals and he knew he wanted that spot in the band - Dickinson also felt that Di'Anno was shafted a bit to the side w/ Steve Harris playing center stage; he felt that as a singer, he should be at the center of the stage. When Bruce Dickinson joined Maiden, they asked that he dress better for Maiden, and he stop using the stage name 'Bruce Bruce' 😂😂But despite the early battles, Dickinson proved to be THE frontman of Iron Maiden - he could rouse, captivate and speak to concert crowds better than any of the other vocalists before him... Even in Iron Maiden's club days, Steve Harris wanted a singer who could captivate and entertain an audience... Maiden's first vocalist Paul Day reportedly had a good voice, but not a great stage presence (If u see people leaving and heading for the bar while u r playing, u know the singer is not doing his job)... so he was fired. The 2nd singer Dennis Wilcock was apparently a poor singer, but could really capture the audience's attention - he would use blood capsules and run a fake sword through his mouth... he was entertaining like Alice Cooper, but Wilcock was very egotistical and ended up firing everyone in the band before he quit himself in 1977... Paul Di 'Anno joined in 1977 and was a more punk rock guy w/ short hair and all attitude... but he was a good singer and great at connecting w/ the club audiences that Iron Maiden played to... With Di'Anno on vocals, Iron Maiden got a solid reputation in the UK as a live band. Di'Anno could whip the crowds up, sing w/ passion, and connect w/ audiences from the stage. The problems came after Maiden got signed and during the 'Killers' world tour, the band's dates stretched for months in 1981 and the pressure on Di'Anno to perform live night after night, finally took its toll as the singer indulged in alcohol, smokes and drugs, and forced cancellations of tour dates... Maiden had to let him go in '81. Blaze Bayley had energy and balls, but didn't quite have the voice to carry Iron Maiden songs live in concert... That became an issue on tour when fans heard Blaze struggle vocally... didn't like his records w/ Maiden, and ultimately got him sacked in 1999 (but not for a lack of trying).

Englisch "The Sign Of The Cross" yes. I always look forward to hearing this song. I don't care live or studio, but I'm glad you're listening to the live version now. There are more ideas in this song than others put together on an entire album. 😉

They were the headliner of Rock n Rio this week. I watched the TV broadcasting and was touched when saw some young fans crying with joy. But it was disappointing to see the thousands of mobile phones' lights recording the show. I wish I was there and tear my ass down enjoying all moments to the full. Bruce is nearly 70 and he was touching those high notes sometimes, band was crazy. They managed to rock those auidence as well.

I think the reason this song is so great live is because the way Bruce introduces is this song represents Iron Maiden fans regardless of who you are, you belong as a fan. I feel like the song represents the brotherhood of Iron Maiden as a band and the band with the fans and the fans to the band. At the show in Albuquerque I went to Bruce expressed because the world leaders try to divide people and how messed up that is but at Iron Maiden shows everyone belongs what religion, what race, orientation or gender whatever. This is basically what he says after expressing gratitude for people who travelled (mentioning people who came far from like South America etc)

I commented on rock in rio 2022 just a few days ago, i said it was dead, the crowd were dead, no energy nowhere, even Maiden sounded like they were struggling to siphon enthusiasm from the crowd. All standing still with camera phones up... absolutely bore fest. Maiden sounded very weak too. Now i bet if you put a 90s crowd there it would have been fucking mental!, even Maiden would have been putting on a better show as they feed of the crowd. dead show

Man, peeps in the comments hyping up Sign of the Cross, it's definitely better than the studio version. Bruce does a much better job but three quarters of the song is instrumental, the extra guitar makes a difference though. We shall see if you like the live version as much as people are predicting or not. As someone else in the comments suggested, try to listen with fresh ears.

Wow! They sound like Lovebites! If you like Iron Maiden, you should check Lovebites, an all-female heavy metal band from Japan who shred better than most other all-male heavy metal bands. No joke!
@stevored19892 жыл бұрын
That should be that Lovebites sound like Iron Maiden not the other way around. The bass player from Lovebites is a big Iron Maiden/Steve Harris fan that her bass guitar is the same blue as Steve's used to be before he had it repainted in West Ham colours.

Incorrect, every show they perform is of this caliber. That's the magic of Maiden. That's why they have legendary status. 110% effort in every show of every tour, regardless of what the last show was. I saw them in Hartford, January 1985, 3 nights after they performed at the first Rock in Rio in front of 300,000+. I did not know that at the time and remember thinking their energy level was insanely high for it just being a regular stop on the tour. They knew how to build a hardcore fan base.
@teemukoivunen31062 жыл бұрын
I've seen them on every tour since 2003 and only twice I've felt that they are doing a bit of run-of-the-mill performance. All the other shows have been amazing, like they really want to give their all and entertain you. I imagine it is hard to keep things fresh when they are doing massive tours with tight schedule, doing the same setlist several nights per week for months. Their level of performing has been top notch.

Avoid rock in rio 2022, it's dead, everyone just standing there with a camera phone up, even Maiden seemed like they had zero enthusiasm/energy. The crowd literally were planks of wood i swear. Maiden had no energy to feed off. Plus Maiden really embraced the theatrical performance, i can't stand it, it's so lame. That have to set the stage between most songs to get Bruces customs on for a play... so lame. They should just focus on the music and putting a performance on.

I watched Aces HIgh and it was bad. People say Bruce had a cold which excuses the vocals but the rest was bad as well. Terrible crowd, everyone just recording for social media.

A bunch of guys in their 60s putting Aces High as the show closer (for the whole tour) is worthy of respect, to say the least. Yes, it was not a good performance, but still better than that crowd deserved
