I'm glad you liked the song! There are lots of loan words from other languages in the Philippines - mostly Spanish and English, but there are ones from Sanskrit, Tamil and Arabic too, due to ancient trade relationships. 'Maharani' isn't used in the modern day anymore (the usual Tagalog word for queen is 'reyna', which is a Spanish word), but some Philippine languages used 'Maharani' in ancient times. Re languages, the native languages of each member are: Mo - Tagalog, Alas - Bisaya, R-Ji - Waray-Waray, Tomas - Bikolano, Taneo - Ilocano, Jao - Kapampangan. All the members will sing in Tagalog for the chorus and some other parts, but if a member has a solo verse, at least part of it will usually be in their native language. Some other fun facts: the girl in the video is Jhoanna from the girl group BINI. And the dances with the bamboo sticks are traditional dances called singkil (the one with 4 sticks) and tinikling (the one with 2 sticks). Usually, it's the woman (princess) who dances for the guy (prince), but Alamat reversed it here so it's the guys dancing for the girl.

Maharani is indeed Queen in one of our local dialects in Southern Philippines. The earliest influences in Philippine history even before Spain colonized the country were traders from the East such as Muslims and Indians(India). Ancient artifacts found in the Philippines include Buddha figurines, jewelry , weapons and brass kitchen utensils.

Love your insightful commentary regarding cultural identity! ALAMAT does spark conversations about nationalistic pride and the search for one's heritage. I understand how labels like "coconut," or "oreo," or "banana" can be so mean, but I hope it doesn't get to you. We are all in search of our identity and being products of our time, environment, and upbringing, I think you should just do YOU.

Your message about being ambiguous and limiting yourself from expressing yourself makes me cry. I feel your yearning and I'm touched to know that these boys are inspiring you! 🥺 It is a powerful thing that they're doing - we are in a woke culture generation and I think what it needs is healing by going back to your roots and appreciating the tradition and culture.

You have heard their slower, ballady songs. Now let's go into their a bit faster songs. Their latest was "Gayuma", but you can also check out their debut song, "KBye" when they were originally a 9-member group. After KBye they became an 8-member group and they released "Kasmala", they also did a cover called "Porque". Then they became a 6-member group an releasaed "Sa Panaginip Na Lang",which you reacted too. Please check out the songs I mentioned. Thanks.😊

For this song, they used one language, Tagalog, but the language has loan words like Maharani. The words they used are also deep Tagalog, it's a beautiful language, with lots of b,p,k sounds, plosives, which sound good when used in song and also rap.

Asians do support each other. We easily connect through music since it's part of both cultures. We are proud of Alamat coz they are frontiers of sharing Filipino culture and heritage. We have huge Indian communities here in the PH and they are vital do Small & Medium enterprises. 🇮🇳 &🇵🇭 had early connections since the start of great civilization. Some of our FILIPINO words were derived from Sanskrit and Tamil that until today we are still using.

Love your comment on culture. Filipino and Southeast Asian culture in its ancient foundations,if you dig deep enough, you will find a distinct influence from South Asia as well.

7:20 "Can I talk about how much I love the Ppop artists are proud of their culture and heritage?" " If I talk on behalf of the British Asians in Englad, somehow they are embarrassed." That's what I love about the Ppop artists too, Sis. They are trying to show the world our beautiful culture. Before the Western colonization, Asian is very rich not just in money but also in art and culture. ✨🖌️ Now, its time for us to revive that. 💪✨🤓

We were colonized for 500 year and on going, and the majority of our people has a colonial mentality due to that as well as religious brainwash. They claim pride, but few knows their own history, and culture pre contact because it was destroyed. And what many thinks is ''Filipino'' isn't Filipino at all, but Spanish, Chinese etc. 1. we where never one united nation or people, but different tribes and kingdoms, related by blood and language 2. Filipino isn't even us, but the Spanish king that colonized us, and only those born in our islands of Spanish blood was called Filipino. The indigenous was refereed to as ''indos''. We as all indigenous people world wide, has always gone by tribe, clan, village or kingdom. And we don't even have the letter -f in our languages. Sadly therefore many cling to false narratives and fake news to make them feel better of having cultural, historical and identity issues aka inferiority as it was beaten into our collective memory that who we are wasn't good enough. Only to aspire or become like those who colonized us do we seemingly have any worth or chance at successes, hence the whitening, plastic surgery and intermixing as well as claiming to be the Lost tribe of Israel, Ophir and such when we are not Semitic nor Jews. Luckily more and more people are decolonizing, and healing from historical generational trauma, heal and reconnect with their ancestors and their Austronesian heritage!
