Chris, you mentioned giving someone coffee. A friend was working in Albania, and this is a former communist country. The black market flourished there, as did bribery. When my friend's son got injured there and needed to go to the doctor, he went to the emergency room and saw a big line there. He offered to buy the doctor a cup of coffee, who accepted, and they saw his son right away. My friend didn't believe in using bribery, but figured everyone can use a cup of coffee.

When replacing that fan motor, I wonder if it would be nice to have a hunk of cardboard handy (maybe the box for the new motor) and put that on top of the coil before dropping the old motor. That should help a lot with smashing the fins or any worry about a bolt on the motor maybe punching thru a tube.

At first, the location seemed familiar, and seeing your handwriting at 2:33 confirmed it. That's a fairly-recent job, I remember watching the video. Kudos to your apprentice for taking the Big Picture Diagnosis to heart. That probably saved the client from making another emergency call later that night - probably saved them money from ruined product - and eliminated the possibility the client would suspect sabotage due to yet-undiscovered failures.

You know I keep hearing you talking about the torque on a filter drier. I have never used a open end torque wrench. In fact I didn’t even know that they existed until I looked them up on Amazon during this video. I just can’t see spending a $100 plus $$ for open end torque wrenches. Granted I have only been doing this for about 7 years but I have never seen or heard of anyone using an open end torque wrench on flare nuts. I don’t believe it is necessary. Just keep doing you. Thanks for the video. I learn a lot from your videos. Again thanks.

Having done mechanical demo for 10 years, I have basic knowledge of how things "normally" look. We power wash AC rooftop units at work, and on a couple occasions, I found things that were wrong with them, and let maintenance know. Once we had a unit with a bad fan motor. I don't do electrical work on them, other than to lock out the power before doing any cleaning on them.

IDK why everyone hates on UEI meters because they're actually decent meters. I bought a UEI Phoenix when I was in school which was almost 10 years ago and I still use that meter to this day. The screen is a little messed up but it's still working just fine. It's outlived all my harbor freight meters I had prior to buying it.

@@Rado88 - Because they sell to a price point. Some of their stuff is decent, some is crap, a very few things are quite good. For a real example, I bought a 1/2" hammer drill from HF rather than rent one. I needed to use it off and on for about a week. Buying it cost me less than half of what renting "a good one" would have been, especially considering the days I had it and couldn't use it due to weather. I still have it, it still works fine. Some of their wood oriented power tools are actually pretty good. I have a 40" square tube lathe that's lasted 20 years, so far, for the light duty I use it for. I just had to have the power switch replaced six months ago(it slagged), but that'd happen to a high end one too. So, if you need a tool for light duty, or very occasional work, consider them. If you want one that you beat every single day - then go hunt the thrift stores and garage sales for old Craftsman sets.

My bet is that the next leaks are going to be on the coil side of the end flanges where the spider tube to coil repairs you just did were done. That copper tubing is so thin for heat transfer that the corrosion from the food and moisture in the walk in makes it as thin as aluminum foil where it gets pitted where it goes through the aluminum fins.

My experience with evaporators just once they start leaking they got to get some new equipment it’ll just keep on leaking.

Great video and very informative but I used to work like you and check everything. Didn't last long at that company. I wasn't getting to enough calls. In theory your way is the right way. But in reality what ive leared over the years is that nobody cares. Not the customer or your boss. All they want is it done and operational. They don't care if its perfect. So replacing motors and fuses that still work is a waste of time and money in their eyes. You seem to work for yourself so spending 5 hours on a call is ok but iv never had a boss that would be ok with that. Do you only do 2 calls a day?

While replacing motor on these racks, I use cardboard box 📦 from New motor and put under the motor to prevent coil from accidental damage

You should show the liquid level in the receiver after unseating the king valve just just show the difference for fun.

Is N2 even necessary if the system does not have O2 in it? The system was not empty when you arrived, you pumped it down, and I don't recall when you pulled the vacuum, but at no time was the system outright open to atmosphere.

Do you ever have trouble welding with residual refrigerant in the system? I near always use nitrogen for lack of real knowledge and when I did similar on a r22 it smelt like I was going to die, I understand the 'gas degradation' from heat is miniscule, and the refrigerant would stop oxygen blackening the pipe, but man the r22 welds I did taught me a lesson the hard way a few times

Is there a good reason not to use a lower temp solder to cover those leaks when you are not running nitrogen? I know you need to clean up the copper more.
