I don’t know about that. I work on the pediatric side as a physician, so taking care of the babies that were just born. I often struggle to convince parents to stay another night in the hospital when I’m worried about the baby for whatever reason. Many, many parents are extremely eager to leave the hospital ASAP after delivery, and many push for it even against what we are recommending. I don’t think this is just a hospital problem. The hospital would make more money if everyone stayed longer. This is a bigger cultural issue.

I had post partum cardiomyopathy after my daughter’s birth. She weighed 10 lbs. and I had her naturally. I also went undiagnosed my whole pregnancy with gestational diabetes. I was discharged 2 days after delivering her. On the third day, I started having chest pains, chest tightness like bad acid reflux like if I couldn’t burp. Went back to the ER, they did a lactose test. Said, I was lactose intolerant. 🙄 and sent home. The next day went back due to a bad Headache that wouldn’t go away. BP was 239/194!! Did an echocardiogram where I was diagnosed with post partum cardiomyopathy & pitting edema. Was then, transferred to a community hospital as my delivery was at a military hospital. A few days later I was also diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. Later, went to the Mayo Clinic for the follow-up. Was told child birth is the most traumatic thing a woman’s body can go through. Just so you know the FACTS, heart attack due to any of the meds given during or post birth have very low risk of causing an MI and their benefit well outweighs the risks in the vast majority of cases. So sorry to hear this happened to this mother. I hope that more tests for heart problems can be done on pregnancy women so that this doesn’t happen again. So many complications could have happen but I just hope and pray that the family and the babies will be ok. Sending hugs from Australia 🇦🇺

This is so sad and heartbreaking. Praying for them. My husband lost his cousin who had just given birth to twins a couple of days before because of an infection. She had a C-section and lost a lot of blood and needed two transfusions. Then succumbed to infection on day 3. Glad she at least had some time with her twin girls who were and are still healthy. Family came together and helped support her husband and help raise their two girls. Glad to see the same thing happening here too with the family and community as well.

So sorry for your loss.On Dec 17 1981 I gave birth to my twin sons born 5 wks early. Missouri had the worst snowstorm in 70 yrs. right after that. Having premature twins is so challenging and especially at Christmas time. I can't imagine what you are going through but I pray for your hearts to heal. It looks like you have an amazing supportive family who will help you take care of and love on those beautiful babies. We don't know what Gods plan is but it will eventually reveal itself to you. Praying for a happy healthy future. God bless all of you!

I had my daughter 10/23/24, by 10/28-10/31 I was having high blood pressure, and by Nov 2, I was in the ER with postpartum preclampsia. I was given Mag. Sulfate to keep me from having seizures. I spent 5 days in the ER before being released on labetalol and Nifidepine. The fight to save my life was met with swift actions, and everyday I thank God however it is very disheartening the rate at which moms die after birth . 3 days is not enough for moms in labor and after birth, and there needs to be immediate changes to labor and delivery.

I had a c section with my first child. I was in the hospital two days and released. Two days after being home, I had a follow up with my doctor. I kept falling asleep at the wheel, but amazingly made it to the doctor. I told him my symptoms and he prescribed me postpartum depression meds and sent me home. I had an apt at the health department. Amazingly made it. I couldn't stay awake and kept falling asleep and was hard to awaken. They had the nurse check me. I was not only anemic, my blood sugar was dangerously low. They kept giving me sugar snacks until it came back up. I agree that they release you to soon. Doctors are not proactive enough. Blanket diagnosis has no place in medical care. Each case is different. So very sorry for his loss.😢

On June 28, 2003 I gave birth to my 4th child. She was 9lbs 12 oz. and 2 weeks overdue. The hospital induced me and let me labor for 30 hours and was only dilated to 1 cm. before giving me an epidural. I was wrecked!!!! 4 days later I went into complete congestive heart failure and was diagnosed with Postpartum Cardiomyopathy. I had an EF of 19% ( output of blood volume) my heart wasn't pumping enough blood. The doctors gave me less than 3 months to live and I needed a heart transplant. I lived in UCLA for the next 8 months waiting a transplant. I was unable to get one in time so they decided to give me a PACEMAKER/DEFIBRILLATOR to pace my heart. I wasn't expected to live more than 1 years, then 2 years, then 5 years at the very longest. It's been 21 years. My daughter is now 21 years old. By the grace of God he saved me long enough to get saved and all the glory goes to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. I am a living miracle. My deepest condolences to the family. I will pray for them in my daily prayers.

Women aren’t taken seriously when it comes to pregnancy, birth, and post partum. After my first I kept going to the hospital because my c section hurt, they kept telling me I was fine. The third time I had a breakdown and they finally looked closer. My incision was open, about 3 inches wide to side and 4 inches deep. I needed wound care for 6 weeks. We kept calling and they kept saying “it’s going to hurt” “you’re just running a fever because your milk came in” “you can stand up straight if you try”. I could not. We have to be taken seriously! And when we feel something is wrong we need to be able to go in and be listened to! This is so heartbreaking.

I had a cryptic pregnancy, my son was born completely normal and fine, surprisingly. He was born at 1256 am and I was discharged from the hospital that same afternoon. I had passed clots and, it seemed like it didn't matter to them, they wanted an open bed, in the US healthcare is a business and it is the bottom dollar. It's all about the money, and not the care of mothers

Heart failure symptoms after pregnancy are similar to the flu, bruising around abdomen, coughing, shaking, short of breath, which many nurses and doctors will tell you is normal after giving birth and turn you away. Always have your spouse or family member be an advocate for you and DEMAND more testing!
