In this video, I show you how to remove the carburetor from a Husqvarna 445 or 450 for cleaning & how to freehand file a chain.

I have an older 445 that is having the same problems as that one and your informative style and attention to detail will help me tremendously when I attempt the repair. I sharpen my chains in a very similar manner as you do, however I learned through trial and error and a few ruined chains. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in making a great video.

I let my 445 set for a few years and now it isn't getting fuel. Bulb is stiff. I couldn't figure out how to get the carb out and pulled the whole dang thing apart and still couldn't figure out how to get the carb out. This video helped me a bunch, thank you!

Excellent video, took my 445 apart about a couple of months ago. About a month ago finally ordered my parts. Could not figure out how to attach the throttle cable until I watched this and looking further I discovered there is three holes in the floor of the carburetor compartment and the throttle cable feeds thru the front one the long hose goes thru the middle one and the carburetor fuel feed goes thru the one closest to the throttle grip handle duh! Now I just need to get some fresh mix and hopefully I can get it running again. Your laying the choke and filter plate to the side and not removing clued me into the fact that I had routed the kill and primary harness wrong also. Thanks for taking the time to provide good camera angles.

My replacement carburetor came with gaskets although my original was just like yours and did not have any gaskets. I'm not sure whether to put the gaskets in or not?

Thank you for this and the nice closeups. Acquired a nice 445 with start/run problems. Seems like getting excessive air. Noticed that previous tampering had put the plastic screws in the bottom intake to cylinder holes...not even bottemed out. I was sure that was the problem....nope. has to be the carburetor. My anxiety that evening was too much to tackle the "tentacles" of frustrations. But, with your video....whew, I've calmed down now. After getting several 55's running good I thought the 445 would be a "cinch". 1-question: does the front of the carburetor take a gasket....this one does not have one. -thanks, Tom
@cobhc1986 Жыл бұрын
I don’t remember there being a gasket. Also a little tip, make sure that the line going from the carb to the primer bulb is not touching one of the screws that holds the intake to the cylinder. I’ve accidentally made that line too long before, was touching the screw and melted a hole in the line. Also, if someone tampered with the intake and put the wrong screws in, you may want to remove the intake and inspect the intake to cylinder gasket.

Hey Chris Great video but you mentioned the primer bulb hose and the fuel line but on the other side is a another hose port that you didn't mention. I only have 2 hoses so why is there the hose connection? btw this is a 445 husqrvana. thanks Leo
@cobhc19862 жыл бұрын
The primer pulls the air out of the fuel system by drawing fuel through the carburetor. You have one fuel line that is the pickup line with the filter that goes in the tank, that gets connected to the port on the right side of the carb. Then you have the suction port on the left of the carb that gets connected to the suction side of the primer bulb. Finally, the primer bulb has one more line that is the return to the tank. Other than that, the only other port on this carb is for the impulse from the crankcase, but that one slides directly into its own little hole in the intake boot

I have a 445 and it purred like a kitten. Ran it for a minute or so now it wont start??
@ronniehart80522 жыл бұрын
Chris you probably won't even see my question, but if you do, I sure could use your help. I replaced my cab. per your directions and my 445 ran great for 3 tank fills of gas. Now it runs wide open when I start it. I've turned the H, the L and T completely to the right but saw still runs wide open. Can you tell me what has happened? Thank you for the help.
@cobhc19862 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ronnie, to idle the saw down, you would want the T turned to the left, but that doesn't explain why it started running like that in the first place. Possibly an air leak, check to make sure the carb mounting screws haven't loosened and try again with 1 to 1-1/4 turns out on L and H. Also check your fuel filter in the gas tank to make sure it isn't clogged and hasn't come loose from the fuel line, if it came off the line a piece of debris could have gone into the carb and clogged something. Also check to make sure the throttle mechanism hasn't become stuck. I hope this helps, good luck!
@ronniehart80522 жыл бұрын
@@cobhc1986 Thanks big time for your answer! Believe the mistake I was making trying to slow the idle was turning the T and L counter-clock wise. I was only making it run faster. Only today did the saw also start poring chain oil. Since writing you I've removed the clutch, oil pump and started to clean it. I do hope you have another KZbin showing replacing or fixing an oil leak. Thank you again Chris.

Recently put a new carb on my 445. New fuel filter and new plug. Ran great for a little while. For some reason now It won’t throttle. I give it fuel, it just do3/!5 want to go. Swap to old carb and same thing. New gaskets. Any idea what this could be?
@cobhc198611 ай бұрын
Make sure the short piece of fuel line that goes from the carb to the primer bulb isn’t touching a bolt on the back of the cylinder. That happened with mine and it melted a hole in the line
@peterb62823 ай бұрын
I have a 445 and have been trying to locate that carb adjustment tool. Everywhere I look it says "No longer available". The spec on the tool is 5mm 20 tooth....I can find 5mm 21 tooth...but not 20. Is it really a 20 tooth ?
@cobhc19863 ай бұрын
Honestly I’ve never counted the teeth, it’s just the “splined” adjustment tool and can be bought individually or with a set that has tools that fit other carbs too. You can find them as a no name, Chinese set on eBay or Amazon. The same splined tool also fits many Poulan products.

My saw start up high speed will not idle down try adjusting nothing got new carb. If it carb what good name carb. TY
@cobhc19863 жыл бұрын
Hello, your saw should start up in "high idle". If it doesn't go to idle after the first time you squeeze the throttle trigger, and you've made sure your idle adjustment screw isn't set wrong, then your saw is running too lean on fuel. Check your fuel lines, make sure they're not disintegrating and the filter is still attached. If you do need a new carb, you will want to replace with the brand and model that your saw came with originally.

@@cobhc1986 Thank you so much for that information . I will check it out cause might been a defect in new carb. Thank you getting back to me right away.

Great video and very informative. But I am having a problem with the throttle. I feel like I put everything back together right. But when I go to throttle, it won't open up. It seems like the throttle cable is too long. I know that's not the case, but I'm lost
@cobhc1986 Жыл бұрын
The conduit that the cable goes through should be held by a little black plastic piece that keeps it from moving. If the cable and conduit popped out of its holder during disassembly or reassembly, that could be the problem. I suggest re-watching the video and pause it on the closeup of the throttle cable then compare it to yours. Is it actually not opening the throttle far enough or is it just running like the throttle isn’t going all the way?

Replaced the carburetor, gas and air filter and spark plug but it didn't help. It still dies as soon as it fires. Spark arrestor is okay. I think maybe I'll check the gas tank vent but I'm pretty sure it getting fuel. Maybe I should put the gaskets in. I'm going to take everything apart again and take a look.
@cobhc19863 жыл бұрын
That sounds more like your issue is a bad ignition coil. Make sure you get the model number of the old coil before you order though. There was a generation 1 and 2 of these saws and even though the coils look identical, you have to have the coil for the generation you have. I found that out the hard way.

Be sure the fuel you are using is fresh, and drain any old fuel out of the tank. Gave myself quite a few headaches from supposedly "fresh" fuel.
@blaine01293 жыл бұрын
@@TWMcK Thanks for the help.... I appreciate all the help. I only use ethanol free pre mix and this issue started at the end of last summer. Tank was stored all winter with no fuel, so the fuel is fresh. I'm still researching on whether it could be the ignition coil. I get a spark but don't know what happens once it starts and dies with the ignition coil. Thanks again....
