I have the S2800 splitter and it is brilliant for it's intended use. Although I prefer more traditional axes with wooden handles etc., the benefits of the Husqvarna in a wet climate really make it a great contender for a beater axe. Good to see you back mate.

@@kurts64 yeah. I didn’t think anyone would notice. On another note, my wife ordered me a Brant & Cochran Allagash Cruiser back in April. And it’s probably going to be here soon. I can’t wait. I have a big pile of American Elm to buck & split right now. I lost a massive elm to Dutch Elm Disease and had a tree service drop it for me because it was over my house. Unfortunately that’s the toughest wood around here and I don’t use an axe to split it. If you buck to long or get a knotty piece or a crotch; it will stop a hydraulic splitter. It burns nice though and I really love it in the wood stove.

Great video as always big shooter nothing like a good splitting session. My bro has the exact same husqvarna axe and its a beast for splitting these synthetic axes cop a lot flak in the axe community but one thing is for sure they are bloody tough and make for excellent splitters. Keep them coming big shooter.

Aah, gumtrees...trees down in the south of this rock we live on is tough. Got myself a truckload of soaking wet bluegum to split. Time to swing the Tassies. I started my axelife with a plastic handle axe. Still got the head, now on a hatchet handle and still use it. Good stuf mate. Cheers.

Things I like about the husky axe - the blade Things I don't like - the plastic handle cos it's too wide (I like slim handles) - unenvironmentally friendly - if damaged it can't be repaired or replaced in the forest I love how you give it a proper testing 😊

One of the reasons I’ve been holding off getting one of these. I’m wondering has anyone ever broke the handle on the husky axe? I used a fiskars last year and broke its handle so I’m leery of plastic handles.

I've stayed away from plastic for the same reasons, but I got a bunch of these huskys in different sizes for our local scout group a year or so ago, and they've been pretty versatile, and basically abuse-proof. This model is a good all round beater axe imo. Thanks for watching mates👍

They’re not brittle enough to shatter. At least the Fiskars aren’t. They can and do break, but they often shear off right by the head just like a wooden handle or crack lengthwise. But the fiber in the glass keeps it from splintering. I really wouldn’t have any reservations about buying one of these. They make good wedge bangers too.

Excellent footage and editing! That stuff seems to split like locust. Some pieces fall apart and some you almost need dynamite to split! Lol that axe seemed to work well, and you don’t have to worry about overstrike damage with it!

Nice work. I have always used a traditional blocky 2.5 kg @ 35 degrees for tough splitting. l would be interested to compare the husky on some of the really testing trees that border on impossible to split by hand. Some times it comes down to a battle of wills and when using a chainsaw to split a block is admitting defeat. Keep up the great vids. Cheers

Thanks mate. Yep a 2.5 kg cyclone is the go for the really stringy, wavy stuff. The husky got through the wavy stuff in this vid pretty well considering the light weight though, but bigger wood and the cyclone would have to come out I think! No worries, cheers for watching!

Hey Kurt, I was gonna say the Husky was struggling to get the job done, but it made a fair account of itself on that wood by the end. Maybe a tad light for that type of workout?....What are your thoughts? Some great footage of the Australian Bush also......you have a good eye..... and as an afterthought...your strength, tenacity and perserverance in 'Splitting This', wood is not lost on me as a personal trait required by so many to get by in tuff times... Thanks again for highlighting this important aspect of 'Mens Mental Health'. Respect.🙂

Gday mate, it was a bit light for some of the heavier, wavy grain stuff that the larger S2800 splitting axe would have been better suited to, but I reckon for a general do-it-all size I reckon this one's the go. Took a bit to get used to the handle but it's advantages are probably worth the trade over wood for rougher work. Thanks for the kind words mate, much appreciated. Take care mate!👍

😆 using a thing called openshot. It's not too bad, but lags the computer out a bit sometimes which can be a bit of a pain for super fast cuts, is pretty easy to use though👍

Terrific footage as always! Glad to see you trying something different. Is that your first composite axe? I’m curious of your thought on it. I just bought that exact model about a month ago and am really enjoying it for the most part. I used to have a fiskars but found the handle shape really uncomfortable. The husky handle is a lot more flat, and the balance gives more weight towards the head rather than the handle unlike the fiskars. I gave my fiskars to a friend and had been using a customized splitting maul wIth a thin handle that I made, but it broke on me pounding some steel wedges. The next day one of these was in my hands lol. They are very tough, that’s for sure! I especially like the big hardened poll for pounding wedges. Makes a great chainsaw companion.

Cheers Codi, yeah this is the first one I've owned apart from a fibreglass half axe about 15 years ago (it broke pretty quick). I have used some other models in this husky range though, (the hatchets, the 1400 and the 2800) and they're all good at what they're designed for. Yep this one is the ideal chainsaw companion model I reckon, and the 1400 is a handy little thing too. Actually gave this 2400 another beating today on some crazy tough, interlocking sugar gum (much worse than what this axe should be used for) and it held up well

A bit of that split not too bad. I did count 1 that took 25 hits to get the first split off . You had around 50 hits in it to get 4 splits and a banker out of it. That is what splitting American Elm is like.

Yeah it's surprising they don't do one a bit longer. I've tried most of the models now, if I could add to the range it would be a 1.5kg chopper on a 28 inch, and a 2.5kg on a 36

Nice vid! Try to convex the grind to a sharper angle. My 2800 gave me much better performance with a smaller angle.

Pretty much a perfect beater axe. Pretty comfy to use, works well, durable, not too expensive, weather resistant. Plastic handle feels different to wood but not bad. Haven't chopped with it yet but got a tree in mind to get with it. So far so good!
