I'm an analog man living in a digital world...and now you're telling me its filtered into new chainsaws and such...oh msn I'm doomed...think I'll head out to the shed give my old boy saws, Redmax 621 Husqvarna 50 Jonsered 525 Echo 3450 some big love and pray they out live me. Because at the age of 72 and like my motorcycle I got no interest in dealing with a digital saw...none nada zip. Ha!

Scott, thanks for asking. First I gotta say I grew up on BSAs and later Triumphs, I enjoyed most them. My current main bike is a 1998 Honda superhawk 996 which I've owned since 2002 and am deeply in love with. Most recently I bought a 1982 Honda xr250 that's in amazing condition given its age and fun to blast around on here on the farm. Tom

Can this go on 550 xp and all to 592 xp to diagnostic?If I remember correctly 585 has adjusting screws in carb?
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag 4 ай бұрын
This only works on auto-tune saws. You are correct, the 585 has adjusting screws and is not auto-tune.

Funny. As I was driving from GB to the Dells tonight I drove right by the shop. As I was driving by I was thinking to myself why I have yet to see a video from you on using Husky's diagnostic software on an Autotune saw. As a dealer tech, why wouldn't you have training on the software that's used to diagnose the Autotune saws? Can you guys check and update the firmware on a 550XP Mark II?

Actually I've done several videos showing how to use the old software called Common Service Tool. The first video was in 2015. The new software has been out for a while and I've been able to navigate it without instruction and that software was using the old "black box" that the first software used. That box stores data and the Husqvarna lineup that requires firmware updates has outgrown that smaller box. The new box has a lot of connection cables I'm not familiar with and don't care about until I need them and I know some are redundant. For example I can connect to certain zero turns via bluetooth and upload firmware. I should never need those cables. Husqvarna does offer training and service schools but I guess another way to answer the question would be to ask if you read the owners manual before test driving a new car? I needed to update two battery saws before they could be sold. I figured out how to do it on my own and shared the experience with you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

More intelligent equipment will need different tools. Still say a good mechanic doesn’t need one. But is handy and can prove troubles.

I would agree if it was just for diagnostics but its also for firmware updates and you can't fix that with a hammer and screwdriver.

Pretty cool stuff but they may need to include some safety warnings that you would need to click on before letting you proceed with tests. This might be beneficial to keep you from injuring yourself or damaging property. I could see myself cutting the cord the first time using my expensive diagnostic tool. I would have never thought that the saw was live either.
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag 4 ай бұрын
There is a warning screen as seen at 1:42 . I did click the button. Thats all on me for forgetting it was live. FYI, its live but only runs at limited power-enough to hurt somebody but not enough to cut wood.

For a dealership its not. Husqvarna doesn't gouge us on these computer interface units. At least not this one. The first time I ordered it I had the wrong part number and just got a bunch of cables and they were more expensive.

I feel its all about the dealer. If you buy from us then we will perform updates for free. If you bought it somewhere else then you get billed the regular shop rate. Usually updates are just improvements but in this case I had to do the update so the saw would recognize a new style battery.

Interesting. I must say though that I think that tools do not need all this unnecessary computers and what not. Just adds complexity and reduces robustness. I'm a firm believer in the KISS principle, Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. This stuff is getting to the point where your hammer will need the latest system update to drive a nail with GPS azimuth vectoring or your ratchet has a system crash lol. Love the vids Scott! Take care.

I like to see advancements in technology but I also like to see a homeowner be able to fix it without dealer-only support. It was the same way when electronic ignition and efi came to cars. Nobody whines these days about not having to set the choke before starting the family sedan.
@RMosher11
@RMosher11 4 ай бұрын
@@TheGreasyShopRag There's some truth to that. My first car was a 65 Olds, coldest blooded thing you ever saw, and the choke constantly stopped working. But most of what I see on modern tools is just complexity for complexity's sake (in my opinion). That being said, I hear a lot of people shit on autotune but I think that is a pretty useful advancement. So I'm not completely against advancing tech, I just question the reasoning of some it.
@TheGreasyShopRag
@TheGreasyShopRag 4 ай бұрын
@@RMosher11 I think the reasoning is emissions. They have to keep coming up with ways to meet the standards.
