Husqvarna TS142X (TS142XK) Features & Comparison

The Husqvarna TS142X is a great affordable lawn tractor for anyone with a small to average size lawn. The TS142X comes with a 20 hp Briggs & Stratton Endurance V-twin and a 42 inch cutting deck. Husqvarna also now makes a TS142XK model which is basically the same tractor, but it comes with a Kohler 7000 series V-twin and a tube style front bumper. The reason for them offering a Kohler powered version is due to the Covid ripple effects causing a shortage of available engines from Briggs & Stratton at the time of production of these tractors. The TS142X has great features like a large diameter soft touch steering wheel for easy and comfortable steering, a redesigned soft and comfortable seat, cruise control, cast iron front axle, adjustable steering drag links, 10 inch wide rear tires for added traction, ported deck spindle housings to help with grass clipping disbursement, LED headlights, 3 gallon fuel tank, and many more user friendly qualities. In this video we also list some of the differences between the Husqvarna TS142X/TS142XK and the TS142 and YTH18542 which are both 42 inch cut tractors that have slightly lower prices than the TS142X/TS142XK. The TS142 and the YTH18542 are both powered by a Briggs & Stratton 18.5 hp single cylinder engine rather than a V-twin like the TS142X/TS142XK. The TS142 is also lacking LED headlights and only has 8 inch wide rear tires. The drop off in features from the TS142X/TS142XK to the YTH18542 is an even longer list. The YTH18542 does NOT have the large diameter soft touch steering wheel, soft comfortable seat, LED headlights, 10 inch wide rear tires, visible fuel level, and the YTH18542 has a fuel tank that is 1/2 a gallon smaller. So even though these models of lawn tractors may seem to have a lot of similarities, there are still enough differences to make it worth shopping by features rather than price. The TS142X and TS142XK are available at authorized Husqvarna dealers for the start of the 2021 mowing season. They may also be available at other retail locations, but we suggest shopping for your tractor at an authorized dealership so you will have an easier time later when you need parts or repairs. Also, the TS142X and TS142XK come with a bumper to bumper 3 year warranty from Husqvarna and all warranty repairs can only be performed by Husqvarna authorized DEALERS, not authorized RETAILERS.

Ordered one today, have about half an acre and will use the snowplow too. Do you think the ts242xd is better suited or not needed since it's much more money?

The TS242 would be better with a plow because it has the automatic locking differential. that will give you better traction in the snow and slippery conditions

The 18542 model also doesn't have cruise control or the molded grab handles for hill control. It also doesn't have the rear locking wheels for added traction. Overall good video.

I bought a ts142 this summer to mow around the house I mow most of the property with finishing mower and tractor. I noticed the 142 does not have a locking differential either automatic or otherwise I was wondering if there might be a way to lock it permanently would be much better on side hills and going up and down hills. I can find almost no information on this, well I should say I can find no information on this.

Husqvarna is not using a CVT transmission in any of the 2020 models. Husqvarna only offers hydrostatic transmissions. They do not offer cheap CVT or gear drives.
