I used to lug water out of the attic 2.5 gallons at a time with my little shop vac. Some of those big secondary pans will hold 16 gallons of water! I followed your advice and got a set up of my own now. Totally worth every cent.

I am happy to see that I am not the only blessed homeowner with a furnace in the freaking attic. It makes it so joyful to have blown insulation falling down on me every time I have to change the filter! Even better, when the builder put no insulation on the unit or the drain, it froze and then leaked in my house. We ended up with a space heater blowing on it all winter to ease our minds. Outstanding! But, we bought two new hybrid units and they are so awesome. Saves energy and only uses propane below 30 degrees.

Ted, if you are looking for a strainer for your water pump, you might look into inline strainers for pressure washers. They go on the supply side and are typically plastic with a stainless steel screen inside. They are not expensive in the unlikely even that it would break.

For a strainer/filter for that hose you might check aquarium place for the little hose end strainer / pre-filters for aquarium pumps. They are about that size.

I need to get me a set up for service like that. I have the same battery vac, but a transfer pump would be great, a little ingenious rigging to for the vac to get connected into tight places. Learning a lot of great tips from your videos.

Ted, they have filters on Amazon 3/4 “ water pump strainer filters on Amazon, which can connect up to your pump. I hope that helps, bud.

I put a short section of clear pvc in the drain line so I can see if there is any blockage or growth inside. I also pour vinegar down through the line to kill off any mold, flush with clear water then a mixture of bleach water.

Nice cordless pump set up...lots of power to flush debris out of the PVC. Thos CAP brackets are also super sweet...manufactures should simply include a similar bracket with each cap so that the right bracket is there for the tech to use vs. rig it with whats already there. Maybe use a short piece of heavy channel iron, drill a hole on the one flat side and use a fitting that protrudes just enough to be about 1/4" from the depth of the two sides of the "channel" for the suction hose. At least it will be heavy enough to hold the hose. Not sure what will work as a screen that won't plug up every few seconds. Maybe rig something up on the ends of the channel iron with screen or mesh material for that.

Just saw you replacing a valve on a carrier unit. I would just cut the pressure tube off, swedge the end and cut the new tube to the approx the length and braze it in. I did mostly refrigerator repair and often brazed cap tubes all the time, and did a lot of swedging on small diameter tube. You use 1/2 of a flaring tool to clamp and hold the tube with it. Then the multi step robinair swedge tool and just use a pair of pliers for the hammer as any hammer I tried was too much and bent up the tube instead of swedging the tube.

He has explained this many times. He leaves the valve closed so the pan fill and trips the switch which will alert the homeowner to call them. Otherwise it just flows for years and nobody notices and they don’t call.

just keep roll of plumbing strap...wrap around and 1 scew...takes 30 seconds. $2 a piece vs 1 roll that last entire season. Those brackets look a lot neater tho. Carrier spends on brackets but has shitty capacitors. All my units installed need new caps within 5 years. Now these LG compressors. Installed 1 already in warranty after 2 months old. The Copelands I have installed past 8 years...not 1 problem with them.
