Liked video, but would have appreciated some diagrams of common system configurations with recommended uv light placement. I have a horizontal system in the crawlspace under my ranch style home and need guidance. Mold is growing on coils, in the drip pan, and around the wires and metal in the chamber before the return duct work.

Install in a place that light shines on the “problems”
@DCINTEXAS4 ай бұрын
I am thinking of installing an HVAC UV light inside my supply duct in front of the coil. However, my supply duct has some type of thick black insulation inside of it. I am concerned this insulation might degrade over time due to the UV light. Also, I was wondering if it's OK for hot air (when heater is running) to run while the UV lights are on. Thank you.
@picklerix61625 ай бұрын
When I replaced my furnace and coil a couple years ago, I was shocked that the coil was fairly clean after 27 years of leak-free service. I did find a quarter-sized patch of mold inside the furnace, right next to the heat exchanger. I have never seen mold grow in that spot before in any furnace.
@NewHVACGuide5 ай бұрын
Interesting. Why do you think your coil was so clean? Maintenance?

Can these UV lights really withstand the heat that passes above the coils?

Beware of low cost copies. You need it to be specified as UV-C wavelength bulbs to be effective at killing bacteria and mold, not just UV.

@MuuuzzziАй бұрын
These lights are usually mounted above or next to the evaporator coil and should run 24/7 while the air conditioner is on. They should be turned off when the air conditioner is turned off for the season.

Hi and thanks for the videos,well done. Listen, can you recommend an UV light for window AC because a really popular window AC made by a certain company that makes U style AC's and they are collecting serious mold on the blower fan due to the way they are now being built. Something that we can just stick inside near the blower fan .Thanks.

@NewHVACGuideАй бұрын
They vary. But none of them are a huge drain.

Just had one installed. My neighbors smoke heavily and my son has asthma. It’s seems to be working keeping the cigarette smoke out of my house. However I was told to run the AC unit on low like 74 75. Does that sound about right. I’m asking because it makes for a higher power bill and we are some cold nature. From time to time I can smell the cigarettes but not as bad as before.
@JohnLee-db9zt3 ай бұрын
UV light doesn’t do Jack to cigarette smoke. It’s meant to kill bacteria and viruses. What you need is decent Marv 13-15 filter and activated carbon filter.
@dora75573 ай бұрын
@@JohnLee-db9zt Thank you for sharing. I have tried everything from carbon filters, having the air ducts cleaned and air purifiers. Nothing is helping. My whole house smells like cigarettes. Our mattresses, clothes and my car that’s parked in front of the garage. I don’t think there’s a solution to this problem and it’s not right for my son and I to inhale toxic secondhand cigarette smoke. This neighbor should have bought a single standing home and not a townhouse smoking like this. All they do all day is stay inside and smoke. HOAs should banned this which a lot of townhome neighborhoods are doing.

@@dora7557 Having the same problem and it is so ridiculous to choose NOT to smoke and not live with a smoker and yet have to f*cking smell smoke every day!! It is actually called "third hand smoke" when your mattress and blankets and carpets absorb the smoke from these jerks killing us with their bad habits. I don't usually like to rant like this but it really gets to me and I'm fighting some serious medical issues so it makes everything so much harder. move already... right?? I wish you & your son luck. Nobody should have to deal with this. *I have put window fans in all my available windows that offer input and output options so I can have fresh outside air circulating more often. That is the only thing I've noticed that can help. I have an ozonator but that didn't really do anything but make it smell bad too.

@@NewHVACGuide I wrote a long explanation of what was just installed in my new Daikin Fit system asking you for an opinion on it, and also other aspects of my install that didn't go as planned. The only thing I can think of to have someone (YT) take it down was I linked the website of the "air purifier" for you to review (in case you never heard of it before). I will try again without the link, that being a Respicaire AirSterilizer Pro. If you look it up that way on Google you can see the specs on it, and I inquired what you thought of it. Also the place it was installed was in the plenum above the fan motor, thus none of the UV light (assuming it even has UV) will be hitting the coils or drip pan. As to the issues, I signed a contract for a Daikin 4" hepa filter be installed, and a UV light. Instead they said they were out of the 4" filter housing, so they were upgrading me with a whole house air purifier, hence the Respicaire unit as an upgrade from the two things they didn't install. The other issue was they didn't use the existing duct that went back to the bedroom and hallway returns, and instead said the closet had two opening sufficient to get enough air flow (one in the wall of the air handler closet, and the other to a vent in the door of the closet. While I am not a HVAC tech, I do know from my education more airflow coming from distant parts of the house will circulate the air better. Then again you might have a perspective I have not considered regarding the aforementioned. Assuming this reply does not disappear, I look forward to your view.
