The quality of that equipment seems questionable at best. You did better than most do, thats a fact. These manufacturers seem to have abandoned quality control all together. I agree with the lack of build quality. In January 2022 I installed a Trane CXAF heat pump and then assisted the Trane technician on the startup. The startup went relatively uneventful but the engineer already scratched his head a few times because Trane had changed some things including a poorly documented lockout input. One of those things was that all four crankcase heaters were connected to a single relay and got switched off as soon as the unit went into run. We already guessed that this was going to cause problems but it was designed this way. Out of the 4 compressors they already replaced 6 🫠. The first one went within 72 hours. The second one (on the second stage) went as soon as the first one was replaced. They also had to replace the main control board and had to come back at least a dozen times because of lockout situations of different kinds. We took the 5 year maintenance and warranty plan so not too much worries on the repair costs but the downtime is very annoying and expensive. We had to make sure we always had heat so we were forced to install an additional heat pump and backup gas boilers which had cost us around 40K to do. After 2 years and 4 months we're still experiencing trouble with this unit 😔

Then it doesn't matter if the drain dry out, because the ball will prevent air from going in the to wrong way. And filling the unit with water.. Whoever decided to use zone dampers on sock duct is going to regret it. Those things need to be set up for the fans to run constantly during occupied mode. If the fan is allowed to cycle on and off with the call for cool/heat then every time that zone kicks on, it’s going to sound like someone cracking a bull whip as the zone inflates the duct.

Rick, I just did a replacement of 32 Carrier RTUs. The same mixed air temperature sensor was broken in the same place on 11 of them. Thankfully, they were nothing more than a SPST “safety” that wet could put a jumper across to make work. Some that had electric resistance heat kits (field install) came with wiring harnesses that didn’t fit anything, anywhere and had to be rewired to work at all. Same unit model, same heater model, didn’t know from one to the next what’s working or needed redone.

High and low settings for the economizer is only available if the Jade is set for 2 speed fan. When there is only one set point available, then Jade is set for single speed fan.
@HVACRSurvival6 ай бұрын
That makes sense. Kinda weird it wasn't set up for that with it being ECM. I didn't have time to read over the manual this day. But I just did a Siemens controller recently and I believe it said to set it for single speed.
@jrsmyth97616 ай бұрын
Yes, it does seem odd that it was not factory set for 2 speed fan!!! Everyone that I have done has been 2 speed from the factory. However, with the crap you found on those units, it's no surprise. As for the Siemens, went to the Carrier dealer gathering and they were promoting them. Seems like they are a combo of Belimo and JADE. I think the neat thing is the ability to have NFC via the app and have saved set ups. Then all you do is upload the save settings to the control. I believe you can save multiple set ups.

I must say, I’m really surprised to hear and read all the issues with the newer Carrier equipment. Since I’m from Germany and mainly work Chillers I’m not really familiar with Carrier package units (only their chillers which have a god awful controller). I‘m mainly dealing with manufacturers like Ciat, Galletti and since about a year now all our new chillers are Skadec, which is a German company who really go all in on quality. It of course has its cost but they are really thought through, high quality units and also highly costumizable. They offer gliding free cooling, heat recovery, inverter controlled Bitzer or Bock reciprocating or screw compressors and a freely accessible controller.

We have a lot of it.

Ground source (geothermal) can be great if the engineering is done with data not assumptions. Over 15 years ago I was involved with a project using ground source hydronic heat pumps. They didn't do a thorough evaluation of what the ground temperature was the before the project. It turned out that the aquifer was apparently glacial feed. In operation the supply water to the hydronic heat pumps was in the forties. The heat pumps were constantly tripping when the system was operated as designed. That project was a nightmare that had a lot of problems. Some examples are 100% outside air AHU that they value engineered out the heat recovery coils. There was a second floor glass enclosed lobby with no mechanical cooling that they value engineered out the high efficiency glass. And there was back to back double sash variable air volume fume hoods with a single fume hood control damper that the hood face velocity could not correctly controlled as the hood was designed. The hood manufacturer had to redesign and retrofit the hoods. They basically eliminated the separator between the sides. (And we had internal problems. Poor work quality by our electrical subcontractor. And we had a supervisor that threw my coworker under the bus. My coworker did nothing wrong. The problem was the hood design. This delayed the correction of the problem with the fume hoods.)

All I wanna do is get pissed off and that's not gonna do me any good. Why should I care more than carrier does? problem is there's really nothing else out there much better.

Unshielded terminals.. Such bad practice.. How is this still allowed?
@HVACRSurvival6 ай бұрын
Are you talking about the terminals or right beside the exposed circuit board with all the components?

i am not working with carrier anymore due SIGLER sales prefer deal with "BIG SHARK" companies only, wont sell infinity and preferred series to small companies like me. If customer asking about carrier i always say now carrier is worst quality for its money.

It is insanely annoying that measurequick removed screen recording unless you pay for each and every unit. It was an amazing training tool but now it is next to useless to teach others.

Exactly it would’ve been good advertising for him. I don’t know anybody that’s going to go through all the hassle of having to pay for each individual customer versus just a flat fee per month.
@CameronKettner6 ай бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival They are losing out on so much exposure because of the fact now that measurequick can not be shown off and used in videos like you and other creators post, let alone to send screenshots or screen recordings to other techs to teach them or share information. There also is almost no reason that the field piece app should require a login, I’ve had issues with trying to use it while in an area without WiFi or cellular service and it is very frustrating.

That is some really crappy quality in the manufacturing of these units... If I had gotten these delivered, they'd be right back on the way to the factory within 15 minutes of arriving. But what are ya gonna do if they're already installed. Just gotta deal with some manager's penny pinching so that he can get his 2nd Ferrari a day sooner... Really great marketing material though. Shows they care about the customer a whole lot

Just another piece of equipment outsourced to another country to be built for less labor. I cut out the part that these people generally send their family members when they don’t show up to work and they don’t know what they’re doing. And this happens at Ford and several other factories that have left my area.
