Thank you Vin. You covered that topic quite well. My HW35 .177 is capable of accurate groupings at 55-60 yards, but for humane pest eradication, I will stalk to close the distance to a more reasonable distance. Cheers from Texas!

Great video I can constantly tight groups at 45 yards with a springer On live quarry max of 30 yard But for me closer the better i would say 90% of my kills are under 25 yards All the best and keep giving the good advice

Well said. Yes back in the late 70's early 80's as a kid i remember it well like it was yesterday shooting a rabbit from 60+yrds away with open sights with B.S.A rifle and watching the pellet just bounced straight off of the rabbits head. I had great eye sight and was a bloody good shot but i also learnt from that shot and distance the rifles capability as a young kid and never shot again from that distance or allowed anyone else to with that rifle.

Very well put Vin,..best way to reduce variables is to reduce distance..my HW35 is my most used rifle perfect grab and go gun puts out 10.5-.7ftlb just right for garden pests and plinking,and great round sheds and buildings 👍👍

I agree with every word Vince. You can never practice enough, know your rifle and shooting conditions and feel comfortable to take the shot. I did never regret those times i did not pull the trigger. Even cold hands can make a big difference. I hunt both small and large game for 25 years now and it took even some years for me to deal with the stress factor, in my case especially with large game. I've never shot a bunny in my life but other small game like hare and birds. Shooting paper or steel targets is something totally different than a shot in the field on quarry because the conditions are never the same. Here at home i have targets high in the trees and on the ground and i even practice shooting moving targets to keep myself trained. Shooting springer air rifles made me also a better rim and centerfire shooter. Cheers 👍👍👍

Hi Vin, A lot of common sense there. Many thanks. Still working on my HW35 to try and get it to shoot straight. Just fitted a Vortek kit to my HW80 First time opening it up in thirty five years ownership. Not tested properly yet but sounds completely different, the piston seal was actually slack vertically on its mounting so high time for a new one.

Great kits from Vortek buddy. Yes it makes a big difference. Especially with the HW80. With my HW30 it's hardly noticeable and a waste of money but my other HW's shoot like a dream... Cheers!

Spot on as usual Vin. As I don't get the opportunity to get out with an air rifle much these days, I know I don't shoot nearly as well as I used to. You definitely give good advice to new shooters. Keep up the good work and a Happy New Year.

I learned to hunt in my teens with Mk1 BSA Meteor in .22 using open sights, as cheap telescopics were rubbish. Most rabbits were taken at sub 20 yards, with a few at 25 yards, if the Meteor was supported. Did lots of practice using beer bottle tops at different ranges, rather than punching paper.

Good morning Vincent!🌞👍 I hope that you had a good Christmas and New Year.🎊 My most successful hunt of this year was done early on in December. I managed to bag 4 cottontail 🐇 with my HW95 Luxus 22 caliber, that is a 17 FPE springer. On two of my shots, I would carefully get into the prone position, get my breathing under control and slowly squeeze the trigger. One shot was resting on my vehicle and the other shot was leaning heavily against a tree. My longest shot had to be about 60 yards. I had to aim 3 milldots above the rabbit's head and put a pellet right through its neck and it was dead on the spot. Currently I'm trying to not blow my money on a Cometa, knowing that in the long run I will be sorry. I keep hearing the same thing, that they are very hold sensitive, and then they have the plastic trigger and plastic open sights. When Black Friday was going on I really wish I would have had enough dough saved up for an HW35. I saw one on sale at Krale, and now I know that I'm going to have to save up for quite a while. I would rather have an airgun cabinet full of quality air rifles instead of subpar.

@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 morning Chuck. That's excellent shooting my friend and demonstrates what a skilled and competent shooter can achieve. It's all about knowing your rifle, reading the conditions and applying the marksmanship principles that enable those sort of shots to be taken. 👍👍👍👍👍

@@Christine-m6x6d you are most welcome my friend and thankyou for asking the question and inspiring me to do this video. We have an awesome friendly bunch of viewers and subscribers on this channel and one of the things I love the most is there will always be someone who will offer advice and take time to input their knowledge. There's never such a thing as a daft question. In regards to the HW35, it's a super accurate rifle that will outshoot it's owner and more than accurate enough for hunting. The limiting factor will always be the ability of the shooter. Once again thankyou for asking and I hope this helps. 😁👍👍👍👍👍

There's a huge difference between hitting a paper target or spinner and taking a rabbit cleanly. Keep the overly long shots for the range, practice or HFT. For live quarry get close and keep it clean. A nice clean kill is memorable, a longer wounding shot will haunt you! The late, great John Darling advocated 25 yards as the optimal range, the closer the better.
@247450376 күн бұрын
Absolutely spot on👍 All living creatures deserve respect even if your intention is to kill. I have many air rifles most HW and AA, i can say the 35 is accurate and consistent out to 40 yards or more. I would NOT dream of taking a pot shot at any living creature. 30 yards is long enough at most. Takes a better man to control himself. Well said.👍👍
@vincentenglish84896 күн бұрын
Exactly that my friend. Unethical long shots ultimately play into the hands of the anti shooting hordes and do our past time no good at all. 👍👍👍

Nice topic and you're absolutely spot on it's to many variables that can go wrong i did get the walther lgu varmint today and it wasn't in such a prestine condition as the seller claimed so i got about 200 pound off the price plus i got a athlon red dot on the deal i have tried to find some information her in Norway if this red dot is any good and if it is usable on a air rifle i wil send you some pictures of it today 😊👍

Hi buddy! Was that the thumbhole LGU on Finn?
@sap30556 күн бұрын
Yes the seller took of about 100 pounds on the advert before I closed the deal then another 4 to 500 pounds the red dot was in on the deal since it didn't hold any value to the seller but great value to me the gun sadly has quite some surface rust and their some problem with the loading handle when I shoot the gun the handle comes loose so I need to look into this
@rapalaron63486 күн бұрын
@@sap3055 On the pics it looked great but with some rubbing compound light surface rust can be easy removed. I did my old HW35 on the soft cotton cloth polishing wheel and used the blue rubbing compound block from Biltema and it worked great. Think the white paste block will be to agressive on the blueing. Just push very light until the rust has gone. If the side lever has an adjustable spoke under it like the Diana 54 has, than shorten it just a little bit, maybe a half to one turn and it will snap over the "dead point" in place again and it will say there. If all works out you've done a pretty good deal anyway. If you don't have soft polishing wheel and you're close to Bodö i can ask my best friend to help you out. Good luck buddy 👍

Thanks for great tips I will definitely try those out and yes I think I did a great deal with it they are hard to come by this is my second walther purchase on finn in a short while the first one was the regular lgu really happy with that one I added a quite large hawk scope to it and it has been a beast when it comes to accuracy Thanks again for the polishing and loading arm tips 👍👍👍👍

@@sap3055 Hi Buddy, Why i had in my head your LGU was a side lever i don't know...Maybe because my 300s was on the table when i wrote the comment 😅, so my "great" tip about the cocking arm adjustment you can trow in the trash bin. Can be the spring tension in the cocking arm release knob. I did see the pics 👍
