None of the usual suspects compared with the Alpha for cabin space or price. Not quick like the Ranger but at $30,000 less the Alpha is unbeatable. I came here for the comments about this not being a Toyota etc... And I wasn't disappointed. Is there something that Toyota pumps through their A/c system to achieve these Stockholm Syndrome levels of loyalty. How's the diesel class action going? Reliability and parts availability is important, but it will never be the primary consideration for me, as it seems to be for the Toyota captives (Land Rover driver here - reliability is over rated!).

Great review. I am generally cautious about Chinese owned automative manufacturers, and - usually - I don't see a lot of evidence of innovation or depth of engineering. They tend to look good on the surface, but when you dig deeper.... However..., these GWM Utes have some genuinely innovative features. The hidden storage under the rear seats is a clever idea. The tailgate is interesting. The interior appointments are impressive. The hybrid drivetrain has a lot of potential, although I am disappointed that it is not engineered to maximise economy. Nevertheless, I still think that the Mazda BT50 4x4 XTR 3.0 litre diesel with the manual transmission is better value (although it lacks some gadgets)as it is more economical, has a 1 tonne payload capacity and will probably last longer with better resale value. But this GWM review has certainly given me a change of perspective on the engineering behind GWM.

With the other P-series not getting any software upgrades to fix all the problems, i.e Lane assist breaking through solid white and yellow lines, Lane assist pulling you far to the left to danger close levels next to trucks in the left lane, you have to disable lane assist everytime you switchthe car on, "Turbo lag" which is actually accelerator delay 2-3 seconds, Cruise control can't pickup speed on slightly elevated hills, Voice activation system engages without command given, Climate control changes from cold to hot and from hit to cold without human selection, false tyre presure alarms. the dash screens can be properly dimmed at night...... the list goes on. You will see that within 6 months, they will offer discounts from 10k-20k because the sales are going to be sooooo bad. How can a company not update their problems on a car and then think people are going to buy another later "better" version.
