Thank you I think this was a great review. Some of the others I've read online seems to forget it is only $64 DA (yes, still a lot of money) and not a $85k Ranger/Amarok. I was hoping they would fix the ride quality because that is what annoys me most from my current Cannon Ute. Can probably overlook it if the rest of it is good enough. Would certainly enjoy a nice massage returning from the job site; that would be a happy ending for me .

I test drove Hilux, Navarra, Triton, LDV, Amarok and Ford Ranger all top spec plus a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Tried Cannon Alpha Ultra with 2.4 diesel. None of the usual suspects compared with the Alpha for cabin space or price. Not quick like the Ranger but at $30,000 less the Alpha is unbeatable. I am 69 and want high spec comfort with a ute load space. TWIN LOCKERS sealed the deal as I hunt in the high country.

I came here for the comments about this not being a Toyota etc... And I wasn't disappointed. Is there something that Toyota pumps through their A/c system to achieve these Stockholm Syndrome levels of loyalty. How's the diesel class action going? Reliability and parts availability is important, but it will never be the primary consideration for me, as it seems to be for the Toyota captives (Land Rover driver here - reliability is over rated!).

Also worth noting all the issues he had with the drivers assist features and the accelerator lag and the brake pedal issues; have now all been resolved through a computer update. Just take it into the dealership and they will sort it for you (you may need to ring ahead). Shows how committed they are to the customers by actually taking on feedback.

This is the kind of Ute I want. It’s essentially a top spec car but I can put stuff in the back and go off road when needed. for that fuel economy I would probably look at the diesel version because then I wouldn’t have to get it serviced at the dealership. really really cant wait to see you do a towing test... im ready to pull the trigger but just a bit hesitant about how the power is calculated??? do the electric and petrol engines both work together as thats the way its marketed with kw and nm ratings??? if they do then Im in but if its just the standalone petrol its not enough to tow a decent sized boat or caravan . Also really interested how the suspension stands up once it has a load behind it. How much of the suspension and dampening settings can be adjusted through the head unit if at all?? cheers for a great review though, keep it up👍

Great review. I am generally cautious about Chinese owned automative manufacturers, and - usually - I don't see a lot of evidence of innovation or depth of engineering. They tend to look good on the surface, but when you dig deeper.... However..., these GWM Utes have some genuinely innovative features. The hidden storage under the rear seats is a clever idea. The tailgate is interesting. The interior appointments are impressive. The hybrid drivetrain has a lot of potential, although I am disappointed that it is not engineered to maximise economy. Nevertheless, I still think that the Mazda BT50 4x4 XTR 3.0 litre diesel with the manual transmission is better value (although it lacks some gadgets)as it is more economical, has a 1 tonne payload capacity and will probably last longer with better resale value. But this GWM review has certainly given me a change of perspective on the engineering behind GWM.

Read all of this and see why not to by any P-series. With the other P-series not getting any software upgrades to fix all the problems, i.e Lane assist breaking through solid white and yellow lines, Lane assist pulling you far to the left to danger close levels next to trucks in the left lane, you have to disable lane assist everytime you switchthe car on, "Turbo lag" which is actually accelerator delay 2-3 seconds, Cruise control can't pickup speed on slightly elevated hills, Voice activation system engages without command given, Climate control changes from cold to hot and from hit to cold without human selection, false tyre presure alarms. the dash screens can be properly dimmed at night...... the list goes on. You will see that within 6 months, they will offer discounts from 10k-20k because the sales are going to be sooooo bad. How can a company not update their problems on a car and then think people are going to buy another later "better" version. Unfortunately, I bought the P-series LT for my wife, and it is not a bakkie for a farm. You need a kidney belt with that suspension.

11.4L/100km for a hybrid UTE, that’s why GWM needs to shift the focus to electronic add on and other fancy stuffs. They still have some way to go from making genuinely good cars.

Another issue. Hybrid sounds great but they still have a big battery system that can fail or at worst explode that is going to cost you thousands on top of high insurance costs and faster tyre wear.
@therightcar
@therightcar 6 ай бұрын
Calm down champ. It’s not a “big battery system”. And if your insurance tries to charge you more for a hybrid, you’re with the wrong insurer!

what about reliability? With the likes of Toyota you know that they will go on for ever, and you pay for it. But with this, what is the assurance? I know that they will have a 7 year warranty. But after that? Probably these Chinese cars are worth 500$. And most 3-4 year old toyota car is in the market at their buying price 3-4 years ago. So, 0$ depreciation in 3-4 years. You drive the 30-60k km for free.

you're too focused on re-sale value. not everyone buys their vehicle to just sell it after 3-4 years. Toyota is dated garbage brought by idiots

There are a lot of points to break down with all the offerings at this price point. Owners would be happy for the first 2 or 3 years, then things are pretty much sure to go downhill
@avghosh
@avghosh 6 ай бұрын
@@bananabear009 Yes..Also spare parts is a big problem for the new chinese brands. I know this from one of my wife’s colleagues at work. They sit in the workshop for a lot of days or weeks if something goes wrong, and the part has to be imported. So, even if you have warranty, you might be without your vehicle for weeks, as it's sitting in the workshop. So, what do you do then? And if you get a faulty car which keeps breaking, and you have the car in the workshop half the time, then what do you do with all the features and the tech?
