The Nitrogang is doing the break in runs on this Traxxas T-maxx 2.5 classic. It's a modern version of the old-school T-maxx. It's still sold brand new and will give you the best idea of what an old-school traxxas monster truck was like. This one is getting broken-in but for some reason has a weird stuttering transmission. We also drive an original HPI rs4 in fully stock mode! Lets do this!.

that jumping is normal. There is a clutch inside the transmission that engages with a pin and what's happening is the clutch is jumping on and off that pin at very light throttle. You just have to give it more throttle than that in order to avoid the problem. It's just an old T-Maxx thing. Lowering the idle will stop it from happening when it's sitting still.

The forward and reverse is engaging perfect. The jerky takeoff is totally normal. If it bothers the owner too much the forward only conversion is the only way to eliminate that. 🤘🤘 #NitroGang

The old black trans t-maxes have a clutch in the transmission that engages at a certain rpm. Perfectly normal as long as it goes away once you get going. If it is lunging like that at idle, turn the idle down and it’ll stop. It’s idling just fast enough to make that clutch barely engage then disengage. Hope this helps.

You have something loose or out of adjustment. Go over it and check the reverse forward arm and clutch. That’s not normal.

hey bro! After making this video and researching the stuttering issue on my own, I can confirm you are 100% right, this is normal for this model T-maxx. The 3.3 is totally different and does not do that. The idle is a little high, and did need to be lowered some, you're also right. It appears to do that when the internal clutches hit. certain RPM, so no way on getting rid of it, you just gotta get though it and wait for the clutches to grab.

@@hybrid32494 I know this is an old video but that cogging is actually adjustable however you have to disassemble the transmission and get to the pawls inside and there are some grub screws and there are 2 of those little pawls and you can adjust the tension so it engages at a lower rpm and doesn't do that as bad. That is how the reverse system on those T Max 2.5 works that system protects the internal plastic gears of the transmission from stripping when you make the forward reverse switch. It's not like the revo opti-drive where it has an electronic sensor that Won't allow it to switch until the transmission stops spinning. Just figured I'd throw that out there for you maybe it will help you or some of the nitrogang. ✌

Classic T-Maxx has clutch fingers in the transmission to engage drive. It's an older system but it can be adjusted with a grub screw. Google is your friend for such things.

That normal. The t maxx uses 2 drive hub for the forward and reverse. Same drive hub that's in the second gear that engages second gear. So at low rpm the hooks stays close and as you put a little rpm it open up and engage the first gear. That's what causes the stutter like that. To eliminate it, you get the forward only which get rid of the forward and reverse drive hub. Hope that help.

that studder is super normal for that old transmission all my t-maxxes will do that at low rpm because the little shoe that flings out is just barely catching the pin in the trans until you get it spinning faster, you can tune it out of the idle but you kinda just need to get it locked it before you start rolling. you can also take apart the trans and make sure that those shoes still move freely, maybe it need to break in some more, i know my old tmaxx had a stuck shoe and i had to lube it to get it going in reverse again, and promptly chewed every tooth off of that gear with my .21 lol

3:41, I heard a lot of people had issues with the reverse transmission, but my suggestion is I made some tweaks by moving the shift rod to the front of the servo horn, compress the springs, and a high voltage servo to maybe make it useful.

This happened to my brand new traxxas revo 3.3. after breaking it in this happened. So i found out it was the transmission gear for me. The stock gears are garbage it was slipping, one of the tooth chipped out because it's plastic. I replaced all the gears in the gearbox with all metal gears upgrade. The power of that 3.3 engine just ripped through those. lol

hey bro! Yes, that is a good idea too! But it seems like the stuttering isn't really related to the brake, its the internal COGGS of the trans, that is jus the way these trucks run with the t-maxx chassis trans. The 3.3 model completely does away with this issue. You must have just gotten the throttle to close a little more and it lowered the RPM which resulted in LESS or NO Cogging, you know.

Twelthman's TMAXX problem has probably already been addressed in the comments (cause, you know, Nitro gang, we look out for each other), but I think that the centripetal clutch springs in the transmission are wound up too tight. I had the same problem (the stuttering) and doing that seemed to have helped. As for the bad engagement in reverse, try lowering the idle speed, that might help. Also, you should live stream on Twitch when you go on a road trip or when you fix your RCs, like IRL Streams. It'd be cool!

@@hybrid32494 It actually looks to me like the brakes are adjusted wrong. I have an original T-maxx 2.5 as well, and it should not be locking up the wheels like that when you let go of the throttle. I'd check to see if the wheels spin freely while the throttle is at nuetral. Could also be that the brakes get stuck. It just relies on the blue aluminum piece turning by itself when you let go of the throttle so if that doesn't move freely the brakes might get stuck. I'd also make sure that can turn with no effort, and maybe pull it apart and put some lubrication on it. I used white lithium grease for mine on my T-maxx 3.3 cause the brakes were sticking and the lithium grease freed it right up. Brakes work flawlessly now.

The jerking is normal for the old style black trans. It has centrifugal clutches that engage forward and reverse. Slow down the idle and it will stop jerking or do a forward only conversion to get rid of all the jerking.

It stutters on idle, and take off due to the reverse gears. Install the forward only conversion kit inside the transmission and the problem will be gone. I had this same exact problem with my t maxx but now it’s running good. Takes off without stuttering and isles without jerking. Runs a little hot though.

Mine did same studder during break in destroyed transmission during second tank of fuel. Got it repaired then after 5 minutes same thing destroyed third time fixing been good but now motor is acting weird so pretty much abandoned the trashmax for nitro sport and nitro slash

My cousin still has his first gen T maxx came with the trx.15 and it shudders on take off too always did. Don't know why. I use to have the sport maxx 2.5r 2wd single speed transmission that did not shudder. I think it's the t maxx classic trans. Great video

You can always go richer during break in but NEVER leaner. Try turning the high speed needle counterclockwise 1/4 turn and see if that helps.

HAHAA, HEY BRO! If you're looking for a nitro monster truck I highly recommend you get the newer and much better T-maxx 3.3. Check out my other videos and you will see I own and run a Green T-maxx 3.3 pretty consistently, Never any issues. Don;t look for this 2.5 classic model. The 3.3 model is significantly better and has a very good forward-Only 2-Speed Trans.

hey buddy! how you doing! Yes, you're right. I have since discovered its normal, it's the 2.5 trans and it's cogs, just how it works. You can eliminate some of it with a forward only conversion btw.

hey my dude! I have a T-maxx 3.3, and yes it's the best version of the T-maxx ever made. Best thing about it is the extended chassis and the reverse elimination. But this particular one is as close to the Original 1999 T-maxx as you could get, without going used, you know.

hey bro! Yes! I have one and it's also the only version of the E-maxx I respect! You remember the one I showed in a video a while back, and then the rear diff got stripped. At this point I'm looking for a replacement diff.
